HELP! 7th Fill - Have Restriction, but is it too much???
Dakloh replied to chriscott97's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That is kind of crazy to take it all out.....Even .08 can make a difference or 1cc, but the all of it....I would refuse! -
ALL my fluid was drained due to a possible "slippage"!

How common is this? -
"sweet spot", how many cc's to reach yours?
Dakloh replied to size10again's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have 3.25cc in my 10cc band. I am not hungry if I eat what I am suppose to and do not drink with meals. I can feel full for 3 to 4 hours. I am not as hungry as I use to be. I only have a little trouble with the band being tight in the mornings. But I have not lost anything since the second week of April which is frustrating. I have been about 1200 calories or less each day and I walk 5 miles per day...guess this is a plateau? I get another fill the first week of June if needed. I think I need it. (My surgery was jan. 27th and I have lost about 24 pounds. -

Feels like giving up. Im so upset.

I didn't lose any weight on the 6 months required diet. In fact I gained. I guess I just didn't take it seriously. On the 2 week pre-op diet I lost only 6 pounds, but now after 2 fills I really do not have any issues except with bread, hard chicken and dry or hard rice. I am hoping my next fill in a few weeks will make other things tougher. I have only had about 3 sliming episodes. (YUK!) I am guilty of wanting it all to happen right now and fast. This is a journey I have already learned...that is not going to happen overnight. I have a support group and I have to quit comparing myself to others as this is MY JOURNEY. Comparing just makes me think I am not doing well enough. I just try each day to keep my food and exercise journal. Seem like I eat right when I have to add it up! Don't be hard on yourself or let the pressure from family who know how much you spent cause you worries. THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW IT IS. Give them a book to read about the band so they get that this could be a several years and lifetime journey. A good book I read is called Bandwagon. Good luck! -
I was banded 1-27-11 and I have lost 21 pounds. I find if I stay under 1000 calories a day I just do not lose, but if I get a to around 1100 but not over 1200 I lose better, but still slow. I have 2 weeks of no loss for the most part. I seem to be up and down and fighting the same numbers too, but if I stick with it then eventually I get to lower at weigh in. Walking helps, but with two small kids and a full time job that is tough daily. I would appreciate any pointers too!

I have only had one C-section but a pretty serious larger incision one in 2005. I since had my gallbladder removed (lap 5 small incisions) and now my lapband this past Jan. (lap 1 small incision and one 2 inch at my belly button for the port.) No problems at all releted to the section scar. I think it is due to the incisions for the other surgery being nowhere near the bikini cut. (Not that I would wear one!)

For 3 weeks I lost nothing ...calories under 1000, think it shut me down so I upped to 1200 and a few more carbs and I a losing steadily...only 1 2cc fill in a 10cc band. Not really restricted but satisfied.

MY DH, never really gave me the OK go ahead sign. He stood back and was concerned about surgery. He is scared of everything....still I think mainly he wanted it to be my decision. Now he goes to support group with me and it was his idea.

I was eating under 1000 cals a day and exercising for over an hour a day and either staying the same or not losing. I was mostly doing lean proteins and very little carbs....I lost nothing. I decided to up my calories to 1200 a day and more carbs and I am losing better. I think we do have to find was works individually. I know my body shuts down the weight loss at less than 1000...so I will have to work on that when I get more restricted.

I work in a hospital as an RN where the Bariatric office and my surgeon are. Today I was passing by the room where there was a lapband seminar and he called me in to talk to the folks about my experience. I have only lost 19 pounds, just having surgery Jan. 27....Yikes...talk about pressure!

I named my band POUCH as in RESPECT THE POUCH....from Capri sun! (Better Respect that darn pouch!)

I am new to the band, since Jan. What I am finding is that most people really do not understand it. Most do not know how it works or even what it looks like. I know I had to explain FILLS to my mom and several other people. I think most think that this will simply solve the problem and make sure the weight comes off. I don't think they know you still have to eat right and exercise and it doesn't fully solve the problem. It is not a fix it. Many do not even realize you may need an unfill. Lots of teaching to do for family and friends here, so they will not judge me harshly if I backslide here and there but keep going. 19 pounds as of today!!!

It can get expensive but I buy the 100 calorie packs of lots of things to make snacking variety. I keep things are work and home and even in my car...not in easy reach in any place so that I am forced to think about what I want and or need to eat. Chips are my weakness so I do buy the baked. Does anyone know about some high protein low carb low fat chips out there? Is there a such thing?

how much wieght loss before first fill
Dakloh replied to dolce_vita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I lost 6 pounds before surgery and 6 afterwards. I had surgery on jan. 27th and got my first fill on March 3. I have now only lost a total of 14 pounds. I am sticking to 1000 to 1200 calories a day and I am up to 4 miles per day walking outside in my hilly neighborhood. I am disappointed I have not lost more by now, but everyone tells me to be patient, that after 3 or 4 fills the weight will start coming off. I didn't like being told not to worry about the weightloss right now either. -
My dietician doesn't reccommend low carb diet, though what she don't know won't hurt her. She says you get into ketosis when you are under 30g of carbs a day. The ketostick will tell you postivie or negative for ketones. The thing with that is it can harm your kidneys for them to filter the ketones...so you have to really drink lots of water. I prefer to stay low carb, but she is steering me away from it as a bandster. Again, maybe I will not let her know!

I had surgery on the 27th of Jan. and get my first fill in two days. I want my doc to be aggressive with the fill and not stick to his usual 1/4 cc or 1/8 cc even. I think I have a 4cc band. I am hoping I can tell the difference as right now I can pretty much eat anything. I have stayed under 1000 calories a day and I am up to walking 3 miles a night and I have only lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks. I will have a second fill in April, but I do not know after that. I hate waiting a month on fills ...is that the norm?
-
These articles are helpful as I will have my first fill on this Thursday. I hope I can keep up with some weightloss even before I get the feeling if restriction. It is so frustrating to only lose 12 pounds and I am 4 weeks post op...aT 1000 CALORIES A DAY and walking at least 3 to 4 miles.

So how often does everyone weigh in at home? How often do you weigh in with the bariatric team? How often do you go to support groups and do you weigh there? I weigh daily at home and it is making me crazy....I think I am obsessing....I could just weigh every Friday with the Bariatic team. (I work in the hospital where they are located, but I don't know if the suspense would kill me.)

How often does everyone weigh in.......?
Dakloh replied to Dakloh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think once a week is best as daily is making me crazy, up and down. It is so hard. I have a scale here at home, work in the hospital where I had the band placed, so I can weigh on their scale any time I want to and I have a scale in my office. I think alll 3 are about in the same range...maybe off .5 of each other. -
Help Me Get Rid of Water Weight and Slider Weight
Dakloh replied to IAmJacksLapBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not sure I am qualified to help...I am only 3 weeks post lapband. Still I am an RN. We have always taught our patients that you have to drink water for your body to clear and get rid of water-even the water in extremeties. Unless a patient has congestive heart failure and they are fluid restricted...this works most of the time. Propping up your legs, and laying off salt can help too. Any walking you can do will help as well. -
So what is the average fill. I know I have the smaller size lapband??? I need to ask how many cc's. I have heard people talk about .5cc fills......I think that is a waste of time. I want the darn thing tight where I cannot overeat. I want to be ready to argue the point. Any advice out there???

With low carbs, do you watch out for the nitrates in sandwich style meats? I buy the no nitrites in hotdogs and meat when I can find them. Also, I know when I was doing low carbs before I could have the beans such as pintos a little fresh fruit but no really carb things like rice, breads and pastas. So how many proteins and how many carbs in a day??? I am new here, almost 3 weeks post band. First fill will be on March 3.
