Hi Eyespy! I can't imagine a C-Section after lap band would be a problem. I can only speak for myself, but my port is above the waistline on the left side of my torso. I had two C-Sections pre-lap band, and both times the incision was a "bikini cut", which is well below the waist. It basically makes a big smiley face cut between your hip bones - sorry for the grotesque visual, but it was the only way I could think to describe it! Even the few people I know that had emergency C-Sections, the incisions never extended above the waist line. I think you will be fine.:thumb:

With a resting heart rate of 76+ pre-band / exercise, this was the first big change I noticed as well. I have been exercising consistently (30-40 mins. cardio 5-6x week, weight training 2-3x week) for about 6 weeks now, and my resting heart rate is now around 60 bpm. My mom, who is in much better shape than I am, belongs to a running club, and her coach confirmed this is one of the most immediate benefits of regular exercise. Of course, you may want to confirm with your doctor, but if you are feeling good, I would just chalk it up as one of the many benefits of increased activity. Good luck!:welldoneclap:

Same day surgery? Not here :-(
Irish Rose replied to SillyWillyMommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband and I had surgery on the same day, and it was supposed to be outpatient. My procedure was at 7:30 AM, and his was at 10:30 ish. I didn't go home until 9:00 PM that night, and I was in so much pain, I would have rather stayed the night! However, it worked out for the best, because I could not get very comfortable in the hospital beds (it's just impossible to pull yourself up and get your butt in the fold of the bed when someone has poked around in your innards!), so I slept much better at home in our reclining rocker. Hubby ended up staying the night, but he had difficulty getting any kind of fluids down, and had severe shoulder pain from the anesthesia. The nurse nixxed the doctor's request to send him home, because she didn't feel comfortable sending him home before be could eat. He went home the next day around 10 AM. Honestly, a day or two may give you more of a chance to rest. I know most of us would rather be home, especially if we have little ones. However, my little dog jumped in my lap the second I got home - let me tell you that was not fun! Give yourself every chance to heal, and remember, your doctor is probably working from his personal experiences and successes with prior patients. Good luck! -
My mom has a friend through their Harley Davidson group that had his Lap-Band at age 74, back in January of this year. He did have some issues at first with pneumonia that landed him in the hospital for about a week, but he is all better now. He has lost 40 pounds since January. That's a little more than 13 pounds a month. He has been very happy with his results. I know that pneumonia is always a concern for older patients, but remember that the sooner you get moving, the better your chances of avoiding this complication. The coughing exercises are supposed to help prevent pneumonia as well. Good luck!:fish:

Congratulations! :clap2: What wonderful news! You've been waiting for awhile, it seems. And you've lost quite a bit on your own before the band. Seems like you've really set youself up for success. Yay!

Hmmm, good point, Laura... I wonder if height plays into the equation? Maybe because you are taller, you would be considered large framed, even though you finger/thumb touch. I'm a shortie (5'4"), and my fingers definately do not touch. I'd love to say I'm as big as I am just because I'm big-boned, but I know it's because I'm extra fluffy! LOL!

Hi sleepyjean, Funny you should post this question now! I was just taking an online exercise assessment through my employer's web site, and this was one of the questions they asked. Their instructions were to wrap your thumb and middle finger around your wrist, with the following assessment: Thumb/middle finger overlap: small frame Thumb/middle finger touch: medium/average frame Thumb/middle finger do not touch: large frame Hope this helps!

Well, I finally got up the nerve to post my introduction. I have been lurking on this site since December 2006, but was too nervous to say "Hi!". I was paranoid that if I talked about getting my band too much before it happened, I would somehow jinx myself! Anyway, after years of researching multiple WLS, including RNY, Duodenal Switch, and finally Lap Band, I finally found a medical group that would at least refer me to a WLS specialist for a consult. My old group gave me the run-around for years, saying they only supported Weight Watchers. Well, I'm sorry, but if WW had worked for me, I would have been skinny 24 years ago! Both my husband and I have been dieting for years, a scenario I know many of you are all too familiar with after reading so many of your posts over the past few months. We both had our Lap Band surgeries on February 26, 2007, and we both got the VG 10cc band. Let me tell you, that was a rough week! However, now almost 8 weeks post-op, things are much better. I have lost 28 pounds, and hubby has lost over 30 pounds since the surgery. We had our first fills on April 4th (5cc for me, 3.5 for hubby). I still feel like I need more restriction, so I have another fill appointment on May 5th. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one does the trick, and helps keep me honest with my eating! I love how supportive and encouraging everyone is in this forum. Again, just wanted to introduce myself, so if I post in another thread, people won't say, "Who is that crazy Rose person, anyway?"

Hi Janine, Of course, everyone heals differently, but my husband and I were banded 4 1/2 weeks before my mom's wedding. She got married on a cruise ship, and we were both able to enjoy the trip. We were eating soft foods by then. We shared the tinyest slice of wedding cake (and still ate only a bite or two each). As for the champagne, you only have to lift your glass and put it to your lips. I doubt anyone would notice if you didn't finish it all! Good luck!
