Lap Band and Divorce
isit5yet replied to Mzhawkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure the Topic Starter would appreciate if the morality and religious lessons were kept to yourself. Especially, since this this thread is not located under the Religion section of this forum. If the OP was looking for spiritual advice or guidance, I believe she'd post in that part of the board. Let me also point out that you: 1. Judge 2. Suggest suicide, "Why don't you just throw yourself under a bus?" 3. Let's be really blunt here. If we're made in G-d's image, and you seem to want everyone to know how perfectly Christian you are, isn't against G-d's will to alter the body? You know, with a LapBand. Just saying Glass houses are shaky and super hot in the summer. It appears your "support" is shattered and melting. Move along, nothing to see here. Please quit picking on the OP. -
Welcome to your new way of burping! I think it's quite common that burping is now replaced with reflex hiccups caused by the phrenic nerve and the diaphragm. I know when I get my first hiccup that I'm about 2 bites away from being full. For me, the hiccups can come out of nowhere and can be loud. I just explain to people close to me that it's my new way of burping, and I can't control it. Think of the anatomy of a burp... rumbling air forced from the bottom of the stomach up the esophagus to make the noise. There's now a stopgap between the stomach and your esophagus, so the "flow" has been interrupted. I just be mindful about eating slowly and sip when I drink - not gulp.

After my surgery I used the Thermacare Heating Pads. I used the shoulder/back version, and it adheres right to the skin and stays warm for 8 hours. For me, it was much better than reheating a heating pad over and over. Plus it gave me continuous heat all night long while sleeping. The pain will go away - hang in there!!!

Organic Natural Food Questions
isit5yet replied to bluepointsurgicalpatient's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've started preferring items that are either full fat with real sugar, agave or stevia rather than chemically altered items that often turn out to be higher in carbs. For Protein, I go right for cottage cheese, ricotta, hummus, falafel and greek yogurts. Whole Foods has become a lot more affordable to do my weekly shopping, and their produce is divine. Definitely find a nutritionist that's more like-minded. There has been more and more research on artificial sweeteners having the opposite intended affect on people using them. When the body tastes something sweet, it expects the calories that come with that sweet taste. Since the calories don't arrive from artificial sweeteners, our bodies will seek the calories elsewhere... often binging on sweets. That's bad for us since most sweets are sliders. I'd rather have the 1 TB of raw sugar in my coffee than something made in a factory. I think there's something to be said about staying closer to nature and the food's original form regardless of the years being told full fat items are bad bad bad. Seems to be working so far! -
Emotional Stages of Lapband
isit5yet replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a stage when I was in the mushy phase and back to work, which is packed with office provided Snacks, that I actually was hit face first with the reality that I'm addicted to food. I had this stage for about a week where I cried over realizing the addiction and trying to train myself on the difference between real hunger and head hunger. I still deal with the "OMG that smells/looks great, I must have it" feelings. I wrote a letter to the office snacks telling them we had to break up. The letter was pretty vulgar (e.g. - F U office Cheetos for giving me back fat, hahah). I seriously did that and then threw the letter away, and I now stay away from the office goodies. Another thing I did was imagine all of the dirty birdies in this world who don't wash their hands after the restroom, and that their hot mess gets on the snack packaging when they rummage through the snack basket Awesome diversion technique. I think this stage is the hardest when realized when you're still on mushies and would give anything to bite into something and chew - not just gum at food. Great list and discussion starter OP!! -
help, something is not right
isit5yet replied to kieras's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone mentioned doing liquids for a few days then mushies. I totally second this. Treat the episode as if you got a fill and allow you digestive system calm down. I also think the meat tenderizer was a good idea if you got stuck with meat. I never though of that. But, wow, choking some of that down must have sucked Another suggestion is to try some pineapple juice. I've used the papaya enzyme and pineapple juice, and they both work nicely for me. Sounds like you've been doing great for two years. Don't get too discouraged by this episode! If you go another day feeling crappy, I do think you should call you dr. The office is there to support you too. Re that poster. Many of her posts are rude, vitriolic and passive aggressive typed diarrhea with little to contribute. I tend to steer clear of any threads where she contributes only because I don't want to reward that behavior. However, that's unfortunate for those who start that thread -
Patient & Surgeon Application Bugs, Info and Suggestions
isit5yet replied to Ken S.'s topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Bug: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/patient/edit/ is redirecting to http://www.lapbandtalk.com/patient/search/ and not allowing me to edit my Patient Profile. -
Two words: Sports Bra. I love the Champion sports bras at Target and can wear the XXL one, and I'm a 40DDD now. I was a 42DDD and did fine with them at that size too. I have an incision right at my bra line. It's a very small incision, and it's the cut made to use the retractor to hold back the liver. I don't know that I'd recommend a shelf bra camisole only because those tend to be pretty skin tight around the torso, which can be uncomfortable when you body still had the surgery gas in it and the incisions on the abdomen.

This might give you a laugh: http://www.youparklikeanasshole.com/gallery2/index.php. When I see idiot parking jobs I always want to put a You Park Like an ******* sign on their windshield. Maybe one day Darwinism will take care of the smoking gas station lady and hopefully without anyone else near her. Hope you're having a better day today!

July 4th Cookouts Muuuuaaaahhh!!
isit5yet replied to Bodacious Barbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are absolutely NOT wrong. I think you took a very good approach for everyone. Even if you weren't on a liquid diet, it's not unheard of to ask people to bring their own main items to a cookout with the host providing other things, especially if the host is cleaning the house to get ready and offering up their pool. Sorry if this comes off tersely, but the reaction from your daughter seems a little selfish on her part Maybe this will become a new tradition, you know, unless your daughter wants a grilled veggie or salmon burger next year if you provide the meats Hang in there! You're making a great decision to protect yourself and health - that's most important. -
Are you willing to travel into KC? Ft. Leavenworth is really not that far at all when you come down K7. I'm in western Shawnee by K7 and Johnson Drive and go in to see Dr. Fearing at Malley Surgical in Mission. Shawnee Mission Med Center has the Bariatric Center (http://www.kcbariatric.com/compare.php), which is off 95th and K7.

That's horrible and sad. Never underestimate the mindset of someone who is desperate. I really wonder if this "doctor's" patients were that desperate, without insurance or who knows.

If I sneeze really hard I can fee the band. I can feel where the port is located when I touch it. It seems like it will be weird or scary, but I look at the band as no different than a joint replacement or breast implants... just another medical device.

Forums are good and not so good
isit5yet replied to Marcib's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to second and triple what everyone else posted. Also look for trends in the poster. Some posters that are generally negative are opinions I tend to mentally throw away. The point about people posting when they are low more than when they are doing well is so very true. It's good to arm yourself with other experiences, but take the stories and find a middle truth in between the extremes. If you find a poster who you think you click with or want to ask more questions, please feel free to private message and reach out to that person. I think you'll find most everyone on here is here for support. Good luck!!!! -
Don't hold too much weight in Dr. Oz. He's a tv personality first and a doctor second. He has a dermatologist frequent his show and write blogs on his site who is nothing more than a rich ex-practicing doctor who does not see any patients and only keeps the medical license to make her expensive cosmeceuticals. I saw that episode and thought it was either very irresponsible for him to present those women as the norm, or it was truly him intentionally pushing his negative opinion of WLS by showing an unrealistic and unhealthy extreme.

I guess you didn't really mean this direct quote, right? "I guess the English Lit majors are debating about how stupid this post really was and how shallow they are or maybe they realize they are not perfect spellers either." Also, how would a psychiatrist help anyone's ready comprehension? If that's the case, may one is needed for those who don't remember the things they type. I do enjoy the hypocrisy of you directly calling me me "idiotic" (I use quotes to show your exact wording) for putting people down when you did the exact same thing with the name calling against me! Dear Mist, enjoy the mirror. Spending more time in the mirror will mean less trolling on threads to just get a rise out of people. Heal thyself.
-
You do realize you did the same thing by stating that others who participated on this thread sound "idiotic," "shallow," and that the post [and its contents] are "stupid?" This English degree holder doesn't need a book to see the hypocrisy here.
-
This is why this thread is located under the Rant section and not directed at a particular post, user or hijacking a thread regarding support or information. If someone calls out users on a thread outside of the rant section, and the call out is irrelevant to the thread topic, then I think the quoted comments below are more applicable.

Same experience here. Try the GNC Total Lean ready to drink strawberry. It's absolutely the best strawberry protein shake I've ever had. The sales guy at the GNC by me tried to talk me out of the GNC Total Lean too! He was pushing the GNC Amplify. I have no idea why they'd push one over another unless there is a different commission structure, or he was overstocked on the one he was pushing and was trying to get rid of it. I wait until the Total Lean is on sale online for buy one, get one half off and free shipping. I go ahead and buy like 8 4-packs at a time

I guess I then don't have an explanation for why I retained that info after not knowing anyone in the UK and never traveled there I miraculously know what a nappy is, what a lift is, and what 'sod off' means among other things. I still stand firm on the cultural literacy bit; We're pretty myopic in the states when it comes to other cultures.
-
I may be wrong, but I think that anyone who is culturally literate and has at least passed high school literature, which includes English (not American) literature should know these differences. You should not have to "translate". This is the lowest common denominator extreme example, but watching foreign-set movies like Bridget Jones Diary, Notting Hill, Love Actually, or watching any of Gordon Ramsey's shows will key Americans in on the language/cultural differences. That is, if the viewer is paying attention or cares to understand.

I gave the two of you who got -1 ratings a + to balance you back to zero. How freaking passive aggressive can someone be to give a negative reputation and not have the balls to debate or reply? Oh well. I only get upset about the grammatical errors when it's someone complaining about the spelling and grammar in another post as a way to put someone down, and their own post contains a lot of errors. It's tough for me not to type, "ahem, look in the mirror," and then list their faults. Actually, it's not tough for me; I just go on and call them out on it I must admit, I do ignore some posts that are just obnoxiously riddled with errors. That's horrible. Not everyone has access to decent schools, or they may actually have a learning disability. A big reason we see more spelling issues today on things we think are simple (weight vs wait, right vs write) is because schools are teaching Whole Language reading instruction instead of Phonetics. Phonetics takes time and attention to have the student sound out and decipher the words they read. Whole Language is a system of quick recognition to read, which means less emphasis on understanding the linguistics of English and why words and letters make the sounds they make when spoken and look the way they do when written.

LOL Sharting. That's definitely what happens! Considering a pre-op liquid diet, and a post op diet of liquids and mushies.. what goes in liquid/mushy comes out the same way. It happens every single time to me when I have to go on liquids for 2 days after a fill. So totally normal. Hang in there - It will get better as you get more solid food incorporated back into your diet. Then you can experience the flip side, constipation. So few calories go in that aren't expended means that there's little waste to be had.

Haven't gotten my frenemy and freaking out!?
isit5yet replied to isabella2's topic in The Gals' Room
I think our bodies just freak out in general the first few cycles. From the pre-op diet for 2 weeks until I completed 2 months post op, I'd get my period every other week while still on the pill - and I have PCOS, so that's unheard of for me! If you're concerned, definitely take a pregnancy test. Try not to stress too much; that can affect our bodies as well. -
I'd stay away from any kind of oil product while battling cystic acne, which I assume he has if he's on accutane. You want to look for something more like a lotion or gel but that is gentle and moisturizing. Here are some suggestions: Cetaphil lotion (you can get it at CVS, Walgreen, Target, etc) Burt's Bees Natural Acne Solutions Daily Moisturizing Lotion Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel - his dermatologist may carry this line of products. This is made with hyaluronic acid - a really good gel hydrator. Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 15 or Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer Sensitive Skin. SPF is really important on accutane, as the skin is really susceptible to burning.
