  1. Oh my what a problem. I had the same question as Melissa though. Did you have liquids, then mushies and on to solids after the fill then after the slight unfill? If the answer is yes then I would go back to the DR. If no then maybe try liquids for a day, then mushies and then solids again and see if this helps. Good luck.
  2. My cardiologist wasn't too happy about my getting lap band either. He kept saying you don't need this. In the end I got my clearance from him and then I got the band. FYI-My blood pressure was anywhere from 140 over 84 to 150 over 92 and this is with taking two BP pills daily. Now after losing just 25 pounds my BP is running the 120's over 70's!!!!! Still taking the two pills but Oh what a difference! I hope to drop at least one pill soon. So what the heck did my cardiologist know????
  3. Great news!!!!! Glad you are doing better.

    water with meals

My DR said it was OK to drink during your meals. So I do, but only small sips and just a few to keep my throat from being really dry!
  5. What Rachel says is right on and worth repeating!!!-So when they started doing the band surgery, they thought just what you're thinking- that the band causes a small upper pouch of stomach to fill up, and that small pouch would then empty slowly, keeping us feeling full. They've recently realized that this isn't true at all. When we eat, each bite passes through the band within a minute. Get in touch with your DR let them know that you can only eat soft foods and ask if they recommend a un-fill. Get off those slider/soft foods. The band is not going to work for you eating food like that. You should not get stuck if your band is not too tight and you chew your food!!!!

Beginning as a low BMI bandster

I say why not go for it. My BMI was about the same as yours. I am much older but don't agree with the earlier poster that said no DR will do it at your age. Why wait until you are older and your body has deteriorated from carrying excess weight? Good luck!

31-32 bmi considering lapband this year

I am a lower BMI bandster and had to go the self pay option. I had no problem loosing weight and also no problem gaining it back. For the last 10 years I have been doing this. I finally heard about the band early this year. I wasted no time and have now had my band for a little over 2 months. I have lost 25 pounds so far. I have no regrets at all about getting the band. The only thing I would do differently if I could would be to keep it a bigger secret than I did.

    SURGERY IN MEXICO

I spoke to Dr. Quiroz by phone and also some of his staff. They seemed so caring and as you said spoke fluent English. At the time I chose not to travel to Mexico but only because I found a DR here in Houston that was going to charge just a little more. I have 4 children and it would be hard for me to arrange for someone to care for them while I was gone. If I do decide to travel to Mexico for surgery in the future I will be seeing Dr. Quiroz!!
  9. Try not to worry too much. Most foods go down OK. I eat chicken breast often, but not dry chicken breast. The key is to eat much slower...don't get in a big hurry and chew!! I am banded a little over 2 months. Some things I have never tried...not sure if I ever will. Bread is one of them. I read lots of posts here and bandsters say they eat popcorn. I just haven't been brave enough to try because to me that is a dry food. I have got stuck a couple times since being banded. Mostly I just slimed a little and spit it out. Once I did have a small PB and that was not fun! So I have learned to slow down and chew!!! Good luck!
  10. I have noticed this too. The next day after a fill it is the same as before, but after a week or so, I began to notice the change. I have no clue why this happens!!

    Bandiversary

Happy bandiversary! Congratualtions on your weight loss!!! I am proud of you too. This is a great place to come for support. Keep up the hard work and keep your eye on the goal.
  12. You will feel much better in the next few days. I too had a hernia repaired and the first 3-4 days were tough. Unless you do some type physical work you should be OK Tuesday. I had surgery on Wednesday morning and returned on the following Monday. The first two days back at work were a little tiring, but after that things were good. Keep getting in your walking as much as possible even if you only walk very short distances. Takes your pain pills, but stop as soon as you can manage without them. Good luck!!! You can do this!!

    Mini Horror Story

That is hard to image getting stuck but not knowing or feeling until 2 hours after you ate potatoe salad. I have had a couple of getting stuck episodes and I knew it quickly and it had passed within 20 minutes. Hope everything is OK and you don't have some other problem.

    removal of the lapband

Very well said! Thank you. Being newly banded I remember all too well how big my appetite was and how large my portions were. I am still hungry lots of times, but the band helps me so much with the portions!!! I actually did not think that I would have to do this much of the work-but again at least I have my band to help me!! I still go to lunch with my co-workers some days and am amazed with the amount of food they put away at the lunch buffet. The same amount I used to eat pre-band! I love my band and the help it gives me. I hope I never have a problem that would require me to have it removed!

    removal of the lapband

I don't feel sorry for me... I just know without the help lap band gives me my old slow metabolism and eating will land be back on the fat side of life! I am a 54 yr old grandmother raising four grand children and one is just 22 months old.....maybe if I had no other responsibilies and had lost the weight then I would be more confident that I could get in the exercise I need and eat the way a skinny person does...

    SAD!

You need a second opinion! I had one too and never even knew it until I got my band. It is really quite common. You know some DRS prefer one weight loss surgery over another. Maybe this DR likes bypass. Good luck!

    ? Am I to full?

You may be too full or you be just swollen. I would stop eating solids for now and get on liquids/protein shakes. Get your appointment scheduled for Tuesday!!!!!

Too much in the band early on?

Hi. We have the same band date!!! I am at 6.4CC and was not worrying until I started seeing posts questioning this. Your post is the second one today. FYI I started smaller than you at 185. I had fill number two last week and except for that afternoon I can't feel any difference. I am loosing weight though so I am happy!!

    SOFT FOOD IDEAS....

Tuna is one of the things I still have trouble with. I eat eggs, ground turkey and hamburger meat much easier than tuna!

    Stuck!

Pineapple juice works for me. Not sure why but if I get stuck I drink a little slowly and it really helps!! I buy those little 8 packs of small pineapple juice and keep a few at home and a few a t the office-just in case.

    removal of the lapband

You still probably have Fluid though. Your weight loss is so great. I am in no way trying take away from that. It is so great you are cofindent you don't need lap band to help you control your wieght. I hope I never have to take mine out. I know I will gain weight if I do.
