JourneyGirl replied to ccraig326's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
How exciting! I also took time (not as long as you though, just 2.5 years) researching and more importantly, praying, for what to do. I am so happy and at peace with my decision to have this done. I will be banded Feb. 22,2011. Good luck and let us know how you do!! Wendy -

BANDING DAY 7/15/11 (SCARED)
JourneyGirl replied to aNEW_me2011's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great news on the surgery date!! My LRD is 2 weeks clear liquids and 3-4 Protein shakes per day. Surprisingly it isn't bad (being banded on the 22nd). As for after what is stated above is what I have to do as well. Good luck!! -
I just wanted to say Hi and give you some encouragement. I haven't been banded yet (Feb. 22 is my big day) but understand the eating issue. Keep in mind that you can do this. Look at what you have done so far! Keep your eye on the prize! You will be fine!!
Hope you are having a good day.

35 pounds is awesome!!! Congratulations! So you don't have insurance or a job at the moment and can't afford fills and husbands car is smushed okay. Then let's focus on what you DO have. You are down 35 pounds!! That is what . . . 7 five pound bags of sugar!! Go to the store and try carrying that around with you a few isles. lol That is such an awesome accomplishment!! You also have the knowledge of what you need to do, fill or not. Use your knowledge right now to get yourself back on track. Journal your food intake, eat on smaller plates, drink plenty of fluids. I have found that when I want to nibble on something it isn't because I "am hungry" it is out of habit. So if I go to the kitchen or even start to think of wanting food and I know that I don't need to eat yet I will do 20 push-ups or sit ups, hop on the gazelle or go for a walk. Whatever you can do to help you get your mind off food. I know that it is tough when you are home with no car but use what you do have. You have made it this far and you CAN DO THIS!! And keep coming back here for support and encouragement!! Good luck!!

Hi Everyone. My name is Wendy, I am a 37 yo wife and mother to 3 kids (6,5,5). We live in the suburbs of Buffalo,NY. I have struggled w/ weight for the past 17 years. Two years ago I started the lap band process and then got scared by some information that I read and changed my decision to gastric bypass. The morning of my Pre-Op I called and canceled. The risks involved in having the bypass surgery and everything that followed surgery isn't something I wanted. So I did nothing for 1.5 years. September of 2010 I finally came to the understanding that I need help. Loosing weight isn't something that I can do on my own and everything has risks, from walking in the street to driving to the store. The "risks" that may or may not happen w/ gastric banding I am willing to chance. I got the call yesterday to schedule my surgery, only thing is I was napping (I'm sick) and missed the call. lol Go figure! I got the message this morning and due to this lovely snow storm they are closed today so tomorrow I will get my date. I am sure it is 2 weeks away. The doctor I see is Dr. Pham at Synergy Bariatrics in Buffalo (Williamsville). I am fortunate to know a few people who are very successful in there WLS who have gone to this office. So that is very encouraging. I am very excited to finally have this tool to loose weight! And can't wait to start going!!

That is very encouraging!! Thanks.

I thought that I posted this the other day but can't find it, so I am not sure what happened. I got my surgery date for Feb. 22nd and started my 2 week LRD, liquid only, today. I am very excited to finally be at the point in the process. I can't believe that this is actually here already! I have definitely noticed that my behavior takes me to the kitchen many times through out the day to nibble. I have kept myself very busy and have 4 very clean bedrooms due to it! I know that I will get through this and what doesn't kill me will make me stronger. With that said I want substance! lol Good golly it is only day one and I just want to chew something. I think s/f Jello and s/f Popsicles are going to be my life saver over the next 2 weeks. A friend who had the same doctor as I, said that in her nutrition class they told her she could have a slice of low sodium turkey at lunch. But my class isn't for 1 week and I don't want to do something that I was not told by them to do. I did call them about tea/coffee because it isn't on the list and she did allow me decaf herbal tea. So here is to day one! Let's hope day 2-14 go smoothly too! lol

OMG! I Gained Weight!!!
JourneyGirl replied to BASIMAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW!! ARE YOU FOR REAL?? Way to encourage! Hope no one treated you like this when you needed encouragement or asked questions! Everyone's journey is different! No two people are going to loose/gain weight the same. And a little FYI for you: this is completely NORMAL after surgery. You really need to think about your reply and how it was not appropriate and that you need to man up and apologize!! -
How Can People Who Share the Same Struggle Be So Judgmental?
JourneyGirl replied to BASIMAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am new hear too and hope that you reconsider leaving this site. I wasn't aware of the post you were talking about so I looked and . . . OMG! I would feel the same way that you do. I can't believe the insensitivity that was shown to you by one particular person. I am very sorry that happened, even though the one that needs to apologize isn't me. We all need a place where we can come for support and encouragement. We need to be able to ask questions and get answers in a kind fashion. Unfortunately this does happen on every board that I have come across (whether it is lap band or parenting, etc...). There are alot of decent people here that really do care and want to help us newbies. Try to ignore or block (if we can) the rude, insensitive, egotistical ones. I hope to see you around. Good luck and remember that YOU CAN DO THIS, We all can!! -
Banded on Monday...
JourneyGirl replied to HungryMel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the Tylenol try crushing it between two spoons and then adding a bit of liquid to swallow it with, that should resolve it getting stuck. As for being hungry, I am sorry you are struggling with this. I am only 2 days into my 2 wk. liquid diet but try to not think of it. You have to do something to get your mind off of it or you will drive yourself crazy! One thing that helps me when I am really hungry but it isn't time to eat is exercising. Even if it is a slow walk around the block. When I come home I have cleared my head and feel better. Pick up a book, crochet, scrapbook, something. Stop thinking of the food and get your mind on something else. You can do this!! -
February 2011 Bandsters?
JourneyGirl replied to justplaintired's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is Feb. 22nd!! I can't wait and am so excited! I am not nervous at all. I know this is what I need to do and am 100% sure of it. When I had my bypass surgery scheduled I canceled the morning of my pre-op (1 week prior to surgery). I just knew that decision was not for me. This time around with the Lap Band I am so confident and sure this is what I was meant to do ( I originally started w/ lap band and changed to bypass). I am blessed to feel this way. LRD started yesterday. I am keeping my self very busy cleaning and organizing so I won't think of not being able to have "solid" food. It is such a head game! I will say that I am amazed at how the protein shakes fill me up. Now if I could just stop going potty every 15 minutes I'd be great!! lol Good luck everyone!! -
I am a huge soup lover and make soup all the time. What I am doing today is making my regular vegtable soup which is just chicken bullion cubes (1 per 1C water) and adding onion, celery and carrots. I am going to make it with alot of broth so when the soup is done I can have the broth now and when I get to the pureed stage I can have the rest of the soup. I plan on blending it all up and freezing it in single portion sizes. I am doing this with all the soups I make so I will have it on hand. Hope this helps some, Wendy

BEING BANDED ON WEDNESDAY! HELP!
JourneyGirl replied to punk.sauce's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First and foremost, GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!! It is so very exciting and I can't wait to hear all about your experience! Mel, YOU CAN DO THIS!! I am getting banded 2/22. I was supposed to have the bypass surgery 1.5 years ago and canceled because I got scared. I am glad that I canceled only because the lap band is what is best for me, but my point is that I understand what you are feeling. It is human nature to get nervous and to question what are we doing and why, etc.... But in your heart you know that this is best for you to get healthy. Go with that feeling and tell those nerves to get lost!! Look how far you came, you are at the end, you did it!! You are going to do great and be fine! I can't wait to hear how everything goes for you!! Good luck!!! -
Ketosis induced headaches?
JourneyGirl replied to dancinglamb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fortunate to have been sick and only able to drink Water for the full week prior to my start of the LRD. So while being ill I went through the awful headachs and everything else that goes with the low carbs. This will pass, even though it stinks. I will say that now that the coffee, pop, caffeine, carbs, etc are gone from my daily intake I have more energy then I have had in years!! Fat or not I have energy!! Good luck and keep your chin up. It will pass soon!! -
Good morning. I am looking for a low-fat granola recipe preferably without nuts. Does anyone have any to share? We will be doing alot of camping and hiking this spring and summer and I would love to be able to have this for a good, healthy energy source. Thanks!! Wendy

Good luck. Can't wait to hear how things went for you!
