CREAM OF WHEAT/MALTO MEAL
JourneyGirl replied to aNEW_me2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on liquids for the first week after surgery and Cream of Wheat/ MaltOMeal is on my list (and my doctor is strict)! We are told to make sure it is real runny w/ milk or water. Also the nutritionist suggested putting a scoop of protein powder in it so we can get our daily protein in too. Hope this helps. Good luck to you. -
I will be banded Tuesday but wanted to tell you that your post is encouraging! It is nice to read of someone who feels good after surgery and who is liking what stage they are at w/ the food! Thanks!

Just wanted to share that I am down 11 pounds in my pre-op diet!! WOOHOO!! I can't believe how much 11 pounds effects someone! Surgery is this Tuesday and I can't wait. I am not nervous in the slightest bit and am so excited. Good luck to anyone else being banded this coming week!!

CONGRATULATIONS on your big step!!! When people talk about "I know 'x' number of people who failed yada, yada " Think of the THOUSANDS that succeeded!! Do YOU want to succeed at this? That is all that is important. If you want it bad enough you will do what you need to to succeed. Maybe tell those 2 people that you need to hear encouraging things at this time, not discouraging. So if it isn't encouraging and uplifting then keep it to themselves. I will be on 1 week of liquids after my surgery. But I at least can have cream of wheat and pudding in addition to broth and Jello (which I gag on), popsicles, etc. I am really looking forward to that. lol Before you know it you will be eating "normal" food again!! Hang in there. You can do it!!

Another Newbie in WNY
JourneyGirl replied to fly4kidsrt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on the big decision. I, too, have been deciding this for a while now. I started with the Lap Band then switched to bypass and canceled the morning of my Pre-Op. Then 1.5 years later decided to do what my heart told me and that was the Lap Band. I have three children and a husband and have to be healthy to be around for a long time. Finally I am here, not scared and so very excited. My surgery is this Tuesday (22nd) :bananajump: Who is your doctor? I am in WNY as well. You will do fine. All the emotions you are feeling are normal. Good luck!! -
ALLERY- HAS ANYONE BEEN ALLERGIC TO band
JourneyGirl replied to peaches9's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you ever made your own laundry detergent? Very inexpensive and works great. GREAT for those allergic to scents, etc... If you are interested I'll give you the recipe or website. Good luck! -

Has any one had Dr. Pham from Synergy Bariatrics
JourneyGirl replied to kloee's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I will be banded this Tuesday (22nd) by Dr. Pham. I have a dear friend who had him as her surgeon and has nothing but wonderful things to say about him. Her surgery went great and has lost 70 (or very close to) lbs in one year. The staff is wonderful and very supportive. Are you having surgery? -
Why am I so tired when I wake up in the morning?
JourneyGirl replied to Bandrea2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist said above all else make sure you are getting your daily protein, fluid and vitamins. If you are still tired then it could be something else. But the majority of the time that is what it is. Hope this helps. -
AWESOME!!!! Keep up the good work!

Pre-op dieat and the weekend?
JourneyGirl replied to mdcutie01's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as getting your fluids in if you are running around. Carry bottled Water, or whatever you are drinking. Just drink it as you are out. And if you have to mix your Protein drink (meaning you are using powder) then have it pre-measured in a snack size zip lock baggie and keep it in your purse. You can mix it up when needed. No biggie. While going out on the weekends . . . I am not sure what your doctors say but mine says DO NOT drink ANY alcohol on LRD. In the grand scheme of things it is a very short time, only a few weeks. You can still go out, just have a tonic, or selzer , plain water, or bring your own drink. Your life does not have to stop but things are going to have to change. And even after the pre-op and post-op diet things are going to have to change. That is why we are doing this. I suppose it comes down to how important is it to you? -
Pre-Op Diet! Protein Shakes Suggestions Please???
JourneyGirl replied to LawGirl1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Bariatric Fusion and I LOVE IT! (www.bariatricfusion.com) I use the powder and it is really good. And I am lactose intolerant and I mix it with water and it is still good. Fills me right up and I don't have any problems. -
I have been on a liquid diet almost 2 weeks now. I take a good daily multivitamin and have 108 gr of protein in my shakes daily and my nails look great.

JourneyGirl replied to ThisMumRocks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations (to all of you). It sounds like everything went well! How very exciting for you. I get banded the 22nd and I can't wait. I feel like a kid waiting for a birthday party or Christmas! lol Good luck to you. I can't wait to hear about your success! -
have you seen a video of the surgery?
JourneyGirl replied to dFaults's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did watch it. I want to know exactaly what they will be doing to me! Call me sick but I love surgeries and watching them. I find it fascinating!! No wimp here. lol -
I had my nutrition class last night and she told us that one good thing to do it find a Protein Bar that you really like. Cut it into bite size pieces and put in a baggie in your purse. This way if you are somewhere that does not have good food choices then you can at least have your Protein in w/ your bar. I know that you can't do this for 4 days, lol, but it's an idea for when we are out and not in control of the food.

Getting Banded 3/3!!!!!!
JourneyGirl replied to agdunkle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep busy. Believe me that it helps keep your mind off "I can't eat" and helps. When I feel like I am getting hungry and it isn't time for my shake I have broth or Jello, or sometimes, both. I also will do something. Whether it is laundry, cleaning or exercise. Something to get my mind off of what my head is telling me. This gives me time to listen to my body and see what it is telling me. 9 times out of 10 I am NOT hungry, my mind just tells me I am. It is work but I am sure that you will do great!! Congrats on the surgery date!! -
Approved! Surgery date set!
