Sharp Left side pain after eating
fly4kidsrt posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK gang, I was told to start full liquids day after surg. (I know some of you are jealous-sorry) and then progress to soft foods as tolerated. Had a very soft scrambled egg this morning for breakfast and now if I take a deep breath in I get a sharp left sided pain near one of the incision sites. Progressed too fast??? Go back to full liquids?? Ideas?? Thanks everyone for all the support that I find here. -
That's funny Jessica-I would have guessed Peanut butter LOL

I want to set goals...but not sure how
fly4kidsrt replied to Freddy Henin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a bunch of great answers!!!! I was wondering the same thing myself. I think that I will do the small mini goals (I like celebrations) and I think it will keep me motivated more. I am just a few days post op and I am super excited to be back at my pre-op weight of last Thurs. They had to give me alot of fluid in the OR and it took a few days to come off. I know that I have a very poorly functioning thyroid even on medication, so I will be happy with 1 pound a week after the initial couple of months (hoping for 10 pounds for each of the first 2 months). Best of luck and keep everyone posted on your progress!!! -
I have BCBS insurance and they required a 7 year history-I too was very sparce in seeing my regular doctor. The insurance company accepted and approved me with a history that I provided myself. I had tried WW, exercise programs, Atkins, etc. made up dates and amounts lost and regained. I actually have a copy of the blank form that I filled out if you would like a copy PM me and I will email an attachment for you. Best of luck. PS I was approved less than 1 week after all the paperwork was submitted.

MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
fly4kidsrt replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Back to my pre-op weight today!!! I think that is pretty good , they told me they had to give me alot of fluid in the OR (my BP likes to drop) and then considering that it is that special time of the month to be back there already I am excited. Survived my mom's bday yesterday. I had a few spoons of beans, some cottage cheese and a spoon of mac and cheese. Everything very soft, chewed very well and enjoyed some good conversation while everyone else ate hot dogs, chips, etc. I think I am very lucky that my doctor allows you to be on full liquids the day after surg and progress as tolerated, slowly of course. I am having alot of pureed soups, water, protein pudding, water, protein icecream, water, but doing ok so far. It is pretty funny though when your 7 year old says to you-"mommy I never knew you to "toot" before, and boy do you burp alot now" LOL Just gotta love those boys!! -
Thanks Tracy for the info, set my DVR to record-no chance of me seeing it at 3 so will watch it later.

BMI of 37 but no morbidities = no coverage?
fly4kidsrt replied to CaliforniaJenn's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have to say that my doctor here has been wonderful. Any back, knee or leg pain at all??? Get weighed with your coat on, heavy jewelry, change and keys in your pocket and if you loose an inch, most doctors don't actually take your height- your BMI is higher. Family history of obesity, diabetes, heart attack?? Many different things can be spun to have the insurance company on your side. Best of luck. We also had a form that we filled out provided by the bariatric surgeon, that showed the different diet, exercise plans that you had tried over the past 7 years-I really think that was a sincher for the insurance. Would love to post it if I could figure out how. If anyone knows how to put an attachement in let me know. Or PM me with your email and I can send it to you directly. -
MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

Donna-great to hear!!! -
You can add SF Jello or pudding powder to any of the shakes and not change the protein in them-you only add a few calories but get alot of different flavors. Also Google "eggface" she has a ton of recipes on her website including Protein icecream that was a lifesavor for me when I was on full liquids and the pre-op phase and they are completely allowed. Best of luck to you!!

MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
fly4kidsrt replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning everyone!!! Happy Cloudy Sunday here in NY!! We are celebrating my mom's bday today :cake: -so I guess they will all find out today that I had my surg. They are having hotdogs, chips and cake to celebrate. I think I will take some small curd cottage cheese and soup. I have been using my hand emulsion blender on some cans of chicken and rice soup that I added more broth too. Really sad to say that it tastes soooo goood. I had 4 spoons of thinned oatmeal yesterday and was stuffed. And then the kids were invited to a Kids Choice Awards party last night. I made them chocoate fondue-and had no interest in it.:lovechoc: I did have one strawberry and one piece of pineapple that I chewed into the tiniest of pieces and did well with it. I also had no interest in the chocolate cupcakes that were right infront of me all night long. The scale still says that I am up 2 pounds since surg. but I have been peeing like a race horse. (LOL) Meeting some friends today for breakfast (aka tiny protein shake and few spoons of oatmeal) but great conversation and laughs. Can't wait, having supportive people around is the best. I keep walking hoping the gas will get better, eating gas x strips (10 yesterday) then I read the max is 8 per day, ooops. Just trying to do my best at everystep of the journey. Hoping it warms up abit so I can go for a walk outside later today. Have a great one everyone!!! TTYL -
MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
fly4kidsrt replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Donna, There should be someone on call 24/7 you just had surgery. I would try calling your doctors office and having the on call person return your call. Having thr runns, dizziness and shakiness is not good. Make the call. -
OK Tyler-as crazy as it sounds lay on the side that you are having the shoulder pain, it will make the gas go to the center and eleviate the pain. Best of luck
-
Tyler, I was just banded on the 31st and have been using the gasx strips-they do really work. Walking as much as I can and was able to start full liquids today including a whopping 4 spoons of thinned oatmeal and was soooo full. Good luck and God Bless!!

Question from a newbie!
fly4kidsrt replied to momtotwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had my surg yesterday and the night shift nurse told me I was drinking TOO much??!!!??? The NP when she came in in the morning said I was fine, but I too am not having some of the problems being explained by others with the liquids. I am quite a bit gasy though and I am up 8 pounds with fluid, but day by day I know things will start to fall into place. Keep up the fluids and best of luck!! -
Anyone had a doctor recommend they dont get a lapband?
fly4kidsrt replied to jennifer1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Jennifer, Welcome to the group of non-conforming to what the insurance companies want. I too have hypothyroidism, my BMI was 1 point below where the insurance would qualify me and my weight was 3 pounds below qualifying. That said I was banded just yesterday. I met multiple times with my private physician, had my weights charted and T4 levels done on a regualr basis for documentation. When it was the day to meet with the surgeon again, I wore heavy jewelry, a leather jacket and had coins and keys in my pockets. Guess what I met the insurance criteria. Was approved in less than a week and could have had surg 2 weeks later. As for support of family and friends. My DH is very supportive, nobody else so my parents and my sister do not even know that I had the procedure done. I had several friends call the house yesterday looking for me, I returned their calls today and told them that they all know that I have been struggling for years, I have been working with a doctor for quite some time and needed to do this to get HEALTHY not thin, and they were all great!!! They said that they completely understood and one actually asked me who did my surgery because she thought that she would not qualify either, just like me. You have to remember that you are looking into doing this for YOU not for anyone else and it is a means to get healthy and prevent other diseases and damage to your body that can occur. Best of luck to you no matter what you decide. -
MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
fly4kidsrt replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well it is good to catch up and see how everyone is doing. I had my surg yesterday and came home this afternoon. I know they gave me extra fluid in the OR-my BP drops with anesthesia so not really surprised my weight is up-didn't really expect 8 pounds though. I know it will go back down. They told me as long as the soup and juice go ok today I can progress to thinned oatmeal and cream of wheat tomarrow. I see my doctor next Fri for my first post op check up. Doing alot of walking arouond the house-scared a few of the nurses being up in the middle of the night and walking the halls. (lol) I now know what you guys were all describing of that "gas bubble" that won't go away, Had a half protein shake earlier and boy did it fill me up. Keep up the good work everyone!!! -

fly4kidsrt replied to nallygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning everyone!!! I am off to the hospital now to start my new life. Not really scared now, but who knows in an hour or so. I got hugs and kisses from my 2 boys and a dear friend is getting them off to school and picking them up. Down a total of 18 pounds most of it from the pre-op diet. Surg was almost cancelled yesterday due to strep throat scare but it was negative. Will keep you updated. Thanks for all the support and encouragement I find here and good luck to my fellow March 31st bandsters. God Bless!!! -

I have kept it a secret that I am having surgery this Thurs. except for my DH and a very few friends (3). The rest of my family does not know, they would not be supportive at all. They do not know until now that is. One of my friends that knows it is a secret posted "sending you prayers and good wishes for your surg and a quick recovery" UUUUUUrrrgh. How have others delt with unsupportive family. Thanks -

You are all wonderful-can I just bottle you up and distribute you to all the people that just don't understand. Thanks for all the support!! -
Google "world according to eggface" She had GBP surg. herself and has many wonderful recipes. I really loved finding the icecream recipes that you can have on the pre and post op liquid phase. Best of luck!!

Surgery is this Thursday, March 31st! SO excited for my new life! :)
fly4kidsrt replied to REDsparkles11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I should be heading out of the OR when you are ready to go in. 7:30 EST to the OR for me. Need to be there at 5:30 in the morning. All the best to you and everyone else being banded on the last day to be part of the MARCHing Band!!! -
Sorry I didn't get back to u sooner. The kids were sick. I have had terrible reflux and heartburn with the liquid diet. I have cheated some with protein (grilled chicken and cheese) and some fresh fruit, because yes I have had some constipation problems, after the cheat everything cleared outl
thankfully, Only 2 more days of trying to do the liquids to go and then off to the OR...
