Protein Shake/Drink Info Please
fly4kidsrt replied to kittyforet's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have a large tub of vanilla, you can vary the flavor by adding SF Jello (2-3 tsp of powder) or SF Pudding powder. Also check out this same site under "Food and Nutrition" there is a posting of over 200 different ways of sprucing up your protein shakes. I also love the site "the world according to eggface", she also has alot of shake recipes and ICE CREAM recipes, the ice cream is allowed on the liquid phase of the diet too!!!! It is a real savior for me. Best of luck on your journey!! -
MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
fly4kidsrt replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dutchee-The scale hasn't changed for the better in over a week, actually up half a pound. So, you are not alone. I don't go back to the doctor till the first week in May for the decision of a fill. I printed off some charts from online to track my Protein, calories and Water. I know the past several days that I have definately not had enough water, and the DH has been stressing me out. He moved all of his exercise equipment into the dining room. Granted we use it as an extension of our living room, there is no table in it. I had asked over a year ago to have the treadmill moved upstairs, I have a hard time going up and down stairs without getting dizzy (have had several neck surgeries) and he never moved it for me. Now he is throwing it in my face that "you got to have the surg you wanted" and he is going to get the exercise to loose the weight he needs to. We have been together for the past 15 years, so it is not like he has not seen me try over and over again to loose weight. Sorry for the vent everyone, I just have wanted to cry constantly the last few days, still watching what I am eating though. I am so thankful for this message board to be a line of communication. Have a great day everyone!! -
MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
fly4kidsrt replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I pick up my boys every day after school, on Friday I saw one of the other moms that I had not seen in several months. She said that she thought that she saw me the other day but wasn't really sure until she asked someone else. She then had to tell me "saw you from the back and had to do a double take-looking good girl" boy did that make my day. The scale has not budged all week, but did wear a pair of summery pants for the kids Easter party at school that were an 18 vs a 20 just a few months ago. Happy Dance!! -
Thanks for the information Reverie, I;m still a newbie and learning the locations and tricks of the band. Thanks for the help.

I have tried the PB2 that you can add to your protein drinks and it is really good, but expensive especially when buying at the doctor's office. Today I found a site that has it on sale for $3.99 a container!!! They are currently awaiting another shipment before your order will be shipped but i placed an order for 4 plain and 2 chocolate with shipping totaling less than $6 each-which is more than half off what I can get it for locally. Just thought I would share this information. The website is "Linda's Diet Delights" Happy shopping.

MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

Way to go Marcy!!! -
Jackie-too stinking funny-I remember a real old episode of "the Golden Girls" and Bea Arthur making the statement "You should always be on top, that way the girls don't fall of to the side" LOL I am also married-but I go out with friends and take my boys 7 & 9 on special days, they always want to go out to eat at sometime- Yesterday we went to TGIFridays - I ordered the chicken skewers off the appetizer menu-they have a larger order on the main menu, I just told the waitress that I would like it as my entree', the entree size comes with extras that I know I would never eat, the appetizer size was more than enough and came with just the skewers, a grilled pita, some tzecki sauce and a very small portion of slaw. The appetizers are a great way to go, and just ask for it as I did for the entree', if anyone asks just say that you are eating healthier , which is true and the portion size is much better for you. Best of luck in the dating world!!

sleep apnea/CPAP machines
fly4kidsrt replied to Tyco's mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Cunner-call your home care company. I am a respiratory therapist and we work with all of our CPAP patients till we find a mask, nasal pillows, nasal mask or full face mask till we find one that works for them. There are sooooooo many choices out there that are available, you should be able to find one that works for you. There is no real reason not to use your CPAP - you obviously need it, it will just take some tweeking to find what works for you. Best of luck. -

How to take crushed pills without tasting them?
fly4kidsrt replied to kcharr77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take multiple different sized pills and I do NOT crush any of them. I have changed the times during the day that I take some of them, so that I am not taking all of them at the same time, When I asked the doctor, he told me that unless it is a really large pill you should not have to crush it. It is also very important to make sure that any medicines you are taking are not extended release medications, their coating or capsules are designed to dissove at a rate for the extended release. Best of luck. You can also check to see if any of the medications are available in a liquid form. -
Don't just watch your calories, make sure you are getting enough protein, drinking enough fluids and enough calories to make sure that your body is actually able to burn fat stores and maintain muscle. Best of luck!!

Shoulder pain is severe
fly4kidsrt replied to armywife1129's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some severe Left shoulder pain about day 4 post op-the Nurse practitioner at our doc's office told me to lay on the side that was hurting, as strange as it sounds it really helped. She said that it was trapped gas from during the surgery and it makes the gas go midline and then out of your body. Best of luck hope it helps. -

Taking some time for me this morning and getting some cooking done of things that I can just grab and eat, so I won't be tempted with other junk. Made baked peach pancakes, mini chocolate/carmel muffins and mini banana muffins-all with protein powder in them and they are just yummy. I am a big sweets eater in the past and just need to keep adjusting my program to get in all my protein and be satisfied at the same time. Going to make mexican chicken salad for dinner tonight. will let you know how it is. Have a great day everyone! -

MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
fly4kidsrt replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I forgot to mention that yesterday at my post op visit the PA again stressed the importance of 60grams of protein per day. She said that when most people say that they are not loosing weight but are taking in X amount of calories and burning off Y amount of calories it is usually that they are not getting in enough protein. So mix up the protein pudding, drinks, ice cream etc. and see if that helps fill you up and if the numbers go down. Had scrambled eggs this am that went well, but a slice of crisp rye toast made me feel so tired and sluggish-learned my lesson. didn't get sick just felt lke garbage. Have a great Sunny Saturday!! -
MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
fly4kidsrt replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I had my one week post op check up today. Down 4 pounds since surg. (not including the 8 I gained in the OR) I am really happy with my decision. The PA asked me if I had ventured beyond the full liquids yet to mushy and told her I had with no problem of a scrambled egg. She said to continue to progress as tolerated with the emphasis on the protein and the water. Last night was my DH's BDay the kids were teasing me that I didn't make Daddy a cake, but I did make him Chocolate Protein Ice Cream with bits of fresh strawberries. He said that he really enjoyed it. I thought it was delish. The ice cream maker is constantly on the counter now-ready for ice cream at any moment. Great way to get in your protein and feel like you are cheating. Have a great night all. -

Well I had my surgery done one week ago today!!! Down 4 pounds since before the surg!!! Here is my question of the day: Everytime I sneeze or take a really deep breath I am having a sharp shooting pain on my lower left side below my incisions. I am not a whimp by any means but boy oh boy does it hurt. Anyone else having a similar problem?? -
Sounds good Shirley-thanks for sharing. My kids loooove pork chops too.

JUST WANTED TO INTRO MYSELF
fly4kidsrt replied to reneei's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Renee and welcome to the group!!! Wow you are tackeling alot!!! A great big pat on the back for giving up the smoking and making yourself a priority!! I have 2 boys myself and we are the same height and only 5 pounds off in weight. My DH is also very supportive of my decision. I started back in January (it was my bday gift to myself) joined the gym and started going 2-3x per week. It is a 30 minute circuit workout that is MY time, even when the boys say to me "mom do you have to go today?" my response is yes, it is for me and my health. I am only a week post op, and would I go back??? NO, I have lost 20 pounds since the end of January, only 2 since the surg. but I feel great about my decision and I know that I am on the road to a happier, healthier me. I am only having a problem getting in the 64 ounces of Water every day, not drinking 30 minutes before or after meals, it does take some doing getting the fluids in. I have found myself up in the middle of the night having a glass of water when I put the dogs out. Again as a mom myself we often put ourselves on the backburner, making everyone else the priority-congratulations on putting yourself to the top and taking care of you. Keep us updated on your progress. Best of luck as you continue on your journey. -
I cried for the first time...
fly4kidsrt replied to pinknsassyemt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off CONGRATULATIONS on making your health a priority!!!!! You are not lazy!!! I am just a newbie but this was one of the hardest decisions that I have ever made in my life and I know it is not going to be easy. If we were taking the easy/lazy way out that would really be a small miracle. We have tried time and time again to get healthy to no avail and the wls that we are going thru and the journey that we are on is a continual one. I am sure that they do not even realize that many of us have been on every diet out there, go to the gym and have worked damn hard to loose the weight on our own with no permanent loss seen. Next after working myself in a hospital for 25 years, with many of those skinny bitches, and having been a Union steward for many years I would be marching my self up to their supervisors desk or even over to the HR department to have comments that they are making addressed, especially if they work in such a close proximity to the bariatric floor!!! Their words speak volumes that they have NO understanding of what people that are in need of assistance in loosing weight are going through and even though they "were not talking directly to you or about you" it is absolutely unbelievable that they would not have said to self "open mouth insert foot" when they look around the world around them. Yes, I am sure that it will feel great to strut your skinny body infront of old hubbies and the SB's on the floors but remember to keep you in the forefront. You and your health are the most important!!! Best of luck as you continue in your journey!!!
