Surgery tomorrow and getting nervous
Lmom1980 replied to amw's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
You will do fine! I know is is scary though. I think I got about two hours sleep the night before. I was in the hotel room dry heaving all morning because of my nerves. I was so happy when they called and moved the surgery time up just so I could get it over with. One of the nurses told me that when I was coming out of the deep sleep, I was saying "Can't you just let me sleep a little longer." Ha Ha! Keep us posted when you are feeling up to it. -
I am flying to Ohio today. Plication with Dr. Watkins tomorrow. Not too scared yet, just sad about being away from my kids. Wish me luck.
-
Everything went well in Ohio. Dr. Watkins and his staff were great. I feel really good actually. My Husband and I walked A LOT today. We walked across the bridge into Kentucky, and then drove to Indiana just to say we had been there. There was also a lot of walking in and out of the airports, but I feel great! Now that I have the big worry of the travel and surgery over with, I am now concerned about the weight loss I will achieve. Will my worries ever end??? I just got home and the first posts I read were of people being able to eat too much, and now I am a little freaked out. I guess only time will tell if I made the right choice or not. I would be happy to tell anyone more about my experience with Dr. Watkins, just PM me. I am going to go to sleep in my own bed now YEAH!

GPS Update: Important new information
Lmom1980 replied to DrWatkins's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
He did have a recent problem with one of his patients. He was honest about that. He shared his opion. Isn't that what forums are for? Again-He had nothing to gain by his post. -
GPS Update: Important new information

if you read my post you would have known she (michelle/midwesterngirl/wasabubblebutt) is a troll. I have known that since researching plication. I got some info on her from Ortiz office that was comical. Best of Luck to everyone on your WLS choices. I know I am only one week out, but so far I like my plicated stomach. -

GPS Update: Important new information
Lmom1980 replied to DrWatkins's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
FYI: I had gastric plication surgery by Dr. Watkins one week ago. I feel great! I have lost 9 pounds since my plication. I know this will slow down when I am back to eating solids, but I am very happy with my plication. I do have some fears of complications that may happen in the future. I would have these fears with any WLS though. I was shocked and upset when I read on here that Dr. Watkins is having concerns about GPS just days after I had my surgery. He did call me in person to tell me this, as He knew I would read it on the board and be shocked. He explained to me that He wants to find out more about why some people are having the problems, and others do great. My 2 cents: Does Dr. Watkins use this message board for free advertising? Yes probably. Is that worse then hiring trolls to come on here and bad mouth other Dr.'s and do their advertising for them? No Do I think Dr. Watkins is a good Dr.? Yes regarding him having time to post on here. Seriously... It does not take that long to post on here. Doctors are just people with jobs. I don't think they are any more busy then a Mother of three who works, takes care of her kids, keeps a clean house and a happy husband. And I still have time to post on here. To imply that any good doctor does not have time to post on a message board is idiotic. I think Dr. Watkins felt he had an obligation to post his recent findings about GPS on this board and to his patients. He has been giving so much good information about it, and probably felt it was only fair to also post the bad information. He had nothing to gain from posting his recent problem with GPS surgery. People who choose GPS are self pay at this point. Nobody spends that kind of money without doing a lot of research. To imply that we are dumb, and the doctors who do them are "bottom feeders" makes it clear that you Michelle are a troll. Lori from Ortiz office told me about that little stunt you tried to pull. laughable! -
Hey Genepha I had a barium swallow about 24 hours after, and everything looked great. I am going to try to line up another one with a local Dr. for next week though. I talked to Dr. W today, and feeling a little better. Actually, when I think about it, I would be just as worried had I gotten the Lap-band. I have heard too many horror stories about that as well. Also, on a more posative note. I had 1/2 can of slimfast, and I feel full. I know that my stomach is still swollen, but it is still a good feeling to be full on such a little amount.
-
Glad to hear you are doing so well. I have also been feeling pretty good physically. I am an emotional wreck though. I feel a little cheated that I only hear about these "several" complications after I have had my procedure done. I feel like I should have waited a few more months before I took such a risk on a new surgery. Every little tiny cramp I feel now, I start freaking out thinking that my stomach tissue is rotting. I don't think I will have any peace over my decision until about 6 months from now. I know I am being overly dramatic, but I am seriously worried. Today I had about 4 oz slimfast, 6 oz apple juice, 4 oz broth, and 4 oz gatorade. looking forward to being able to eat cottage cheese next week. Sorry to be such a downer, I just feel a little sad and worried today.

GPS Update: Important new information
Lmom1980 replied to DrWatkins's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
great, typical for this information to become available 3 days after my plication. I knew there were risks, as with any surgery, but "several reports of perforation." That is scary. I am having very little pain, but I am still scared now. -
Hey R! I have been wondering about you too! How do you feel? Dr. C office finally called me back 3 times while I was gone. A little too late. By the time we paid for a rental car, baggage fee's and such, the price was probably the same as Dr. C, but I don't have any regrets about traveling so far. Unless something happens in the next 3 months, I'll be wishing I had that BLIS insurance. I was just too impatient to wait around for anyone to call me back. The surgical center was very small, but the recover rooms were big. It was clean and Modern. The nurses and anest. were so nice and put me at ease. My Husband stayed with me that night. Did your husband stay with you the night of your plication? What type of liquids are you drinking? I am too scared to try anything besides Clear Liquids yet. I am happy that I am walking and moving normally. My kids don't know about my surgery, and I am feeling good enough that they have not noticed. When do you see Dr. Cottam again? Maybe we can meet up and get some lunch (if we can eat by then). So good to hear from you. Keep me posted.

Dr. Watkins' practice is in West Chester. We flew in and out of the CVG airport. I live in utah, so it took a little over 3 hours to fly there. Everything went smoothly, almost to good to be true. I have no desire to eat anything now. I am forcing myself to drink. I just hope that 3 weeks from now I can eat enough, but not too much. I know it is only a tool, and my success depends on me, but I really hope I am not able to eat 3 tacos like another poster said. That scares the $*@^ out of me.

Looking good! Great job!

Stomach Cramps After Surgery
Lmom1980 replied to sdaniel105's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Dr. Watkins told me that this has happend to some of his patients. I have a RX for Levsin just in case I need it after surgery. maybe ask you Dr about Levsin. I actually have the generic Hyomax. Hope you feel better soon. -
Best Wishes! You are going to do great! KUP! I'm just 2 days behind you! Before you know it we will be on here again counting down the days until our mushy diet.
-
I am 10 days away from plication. I just found out today that I was supposed to be taking an antibiotic and acid medicine 2 weeks before surgery. Oops! Nobody told me this. They said 10 days will be fine. Anyone else take an antibiotoc and prevacid prior to surgery?
-
Do you think there is as much restriction with GPS as there is with VSG? I think it is just because of the internet trolls that work for doctors(mostly on obesityhelp) , and other posts by sleevers and bypass patients who had great success, and can't stand the thought that is a surgery out there that might be just as good or better then what they had available at the time. These post have me thinking in the back of my mind that maybe weight loss with plication might be a little more difficult that the other WLS. I should just let the research speak for itself, but for some reason I keep thinking "I won't lose as much as someone with VSG." What do you think?

An example of dinner at 3+ weeks out

Thanks Genepha! Your posts have been helpful. It is so nice to hear from someone who has had experience with plication. -
meds 2 weeks prior to surgery?
Lmom1980 replied to Lmom1980's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
The antibiotic has something to do with h-pyloric syndrome. I guess many people have it, and it is just a precaution. I remember Doctor Cottam in Salt Lake said they test their patients for it. Since my Doc is far from me. I guess I just take it just in case. anyone know if I can breast feed while on antibiotics? Well, I'm gonna call my pharmacy anyway. -
My surgery is March 9th with Dr. Watkins. My hubby likes me chubby too. I think I was about 190 when we got married, and he thought that was the perfect weight for me. I would like to be a little smaller then that though.
-
thanks for the advice and support. Today I weighed the same as yesterday even though I walked 3 miles on the treadmill yesterday. go figure. I guess my body was in shock, and now I am sure my weight loss is slowing down.
-
I have been on my 800 calorie pre-op diet for 4 days now and have lost 8 pounds. That shocks me. I was thinking it would be a pound a day, not 2 pounds a day. It has been hard at times. Today I baked a pizza for my kids and it smells so good. My husband is being the diet police, so I am staying on track. He's watching me like a hawk! LOL. 4 days down 10 to go! .......ugh I just realized it is more like 25 days to go since I am on liquids after surgery. I am sure I will say it was all worth it in the end.

You are doing great! I am looking forward to the day that I am making my 1 month post op post. My goal is also to be at 160/170. I have no desire to be any thinner then 160-170 /size10 or 12. I would rather be at 170, and my skin looking ok, then 130 and my skin looking gross. My skin might look gross at 170 too though. I guess I will cross that bridge when I get there. I am 270 now. enough about me. sorry. Thanks for keeping us updated! Glad you are doing so well!

I am leaning towards plication surgery. I would like to have this done by Dr. Watkins. My second choice is Ortiz. Please share your thoughts on either Dr.
