  1. Hi everyone! I am so thankful for this site and the many people on here who share their experiences. I was banded on 3/1/11 and am actually going in for my first fill this Friday (4/15/11). I lost approximately 15 pounds since the day I went in for surgery and I had a relatively easy post-op with no complications and now that I have healed, I am pretty much having no issues with eating ANYTHING or any stuck episodes (at least not yet). Due to this, I have been pretty much practicing the High Protein - NO Carb (as in no simple carbs, no Pasta, no rice, no potatoes, no bread) primarily because I am very much a carb addict (I looooove potatoes and bread and can eat them all day long). However, here is my problem, since I am completely new to this lifestyle and have been reading all of the posts on here and it seems as though everyone on here has incorporated SOME carbs into their diet without experiencing the weight gain that I am fearing will happen once I indulge even just a little bit. I am not a person who likes to cook and am slowly trying to overcome this obstacle. I think my main problem is I am quite confused on what to eat/make that would be satisfying but yet healthy and would still garner the intake i need to maintain weight loss with the band. I was hoping someone could possibly shed some light on the following for me: 1) what simple carbs can I incorporate into my diet and how much to still stay in ketosis (please keep in mind I cut all the "white" out of my diet previous to the LB surgery - white bread, rice pasta, etc.) 2) any good food ideas especially eating out that you can suggest? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. 3)

    Advice Anyone?

Hi everyone!!! I was hoping somebody could give me some encouragement and guidance. I was banded in March 2011, with a starting weight of 202, yeah yeah I know that doesn't sound like very heavy however, please keep in mind I am only 5"1. I am down to 160 pounds to date and my goal is to get to 130. I am up to about 9.5 ccs in an 11cc realize band. I walk approximately 2 miles a day even though this is my only form of exercise. The biggest issue I'm having is not restriction, or not watching what I eat but the fact that i think i have hit my plateau and i am extremely frustrated. I am a creature of habit. I eat the same thing for breakfast everyday, damn near the same thing for lunch. I am having a problem getting beyond this 160 pounds...I was considering maybe trying the master cleanse or something like that thinking it would give me a boost. I could use some suggestions... Thanks. Date My Journey Began: May 1, 2010 Date of Approval: January 18, 2011 Date of Pre-Op Diet: February 14, 2011 Date of Surgery: March 1, 2011 Starting Height/Weight: 5"0 203 lbs Current Weight (as of November 2012): 160 pounds Goal Weight: 130 lbs *When Your Ready To Change Your Life... Advice Anyone?

Hi Patty! Thanks for the tips. Do you have an idea of how much intake i should be doing? I try to go according to myfitnesspal but for some reason i feel like its off...:Its weird because when i do 1000-1200 cal a day i stay @ the same weight..when i up i to 1300-1500 i lose...so its weird but its hard to get to 1500 calories a day for me. I don't snack much if ever, i mainly only eat three meals a day... Is this correct: Calories - 1000-1500 Give or take Fat: less than 100g Protein: 100g Fiber: 20g a day? is this accurate?

    How many calories?

i am at about 1000-1200 a day but the weird thing is when I eat closer to 1300 or 1500 i see myself losing a few pounds as opposed to staying in the 1000-1200 range where the scale semi stays the same. its weird.

    Is anyone like me?

@girly....no comorbidies other than my serious back issues which require surgery hence, my reasoning for getting the lap band hoping the weight loss would alleviate the back and me having to get back surgery....

    Is anyone like me?

Hi Lisa...don't worry hun..your not alone..I only needed to lose about 60 total too.. although I'm 4"11, I weighed about 200 pounds (41.1 bmi which qualified me too) and need to get down to about 130...I had my surgery on March 1, 2011 and currently weigh 180...with 50 pounds to go to reach the weight I want to be..so don't worry..your not alone..
  11. Hi Mousek! Well big news...I went in for my first fill last friday (4/15) and in speaking to my nutritionist, she advised against me doing Atkins because of the fat content allowed on the diet, she suggested I stop eating bacon in the morning with my eggs (this was all as a result of me complaining that I stayed the same weight from my first post opp appointment to my first fill)...she suggested I do weight watchers. I had approximately 4cc's as my first fill of an 11cc realize band and I can't say I am feeling much restriction as of yet. I am still trying however to stop when I think I'm full and lessening my portion sizes. I am still watching my simple carbs and find myself really only indulging in maybe 1 piece of wheat toast as my daily carb...sometimes I will add in a baked potato to my dinner but very rarely...I use my fitnesspal religiously to track both my calories and my carbs as well
  12. Hi Lila! Thanks for your input. I have actually done atkins years ago and lost about 30 pounds which unfortunately i put back on once I went off. I have been doing the high protein/low carb/no carb ever since before surgery and have only cheated (by cheating i mean eat an occasional 1 slice of wheat bread) a few times...i think my biggest problem is im not much of a creative person when it comes to eating, I tend to eat the same thing every day. My day would look like: Breakfast - Egg white veggie omelette with spinach, mushroom, onions, chives 2 slices of bacon and maybe 1 slice of wheat toast with a smidge of butter coffee - light with half and half (approximately 1/4 cup) and 3 splendas Lunch: Walnut crusted and Goat cheese salad from Unos (basically consisting of field greens, approximately 2-3 table spoons of goat cheese and about 1/4 cup of walnuts with fat free vinagrette Dinner: Same thing as lunch or maybe piece of grilled chicken with some veggies Snacks - none or sometimes a 100 calorie cheese stick with a few pepperonis I also think I might be at a standstill because other than me not having my first fill yet, i haven't been doing much in terms of drinking the Protein drinks.
  13. hi elfiepoo! thanks for the tips but i kind of know the whole grains, fruits, starches thing hence the me doing no carbs and green veggies and Protein primarily...what I was asking was how many grams of carbs do I have to stay under to stay in ketosis? and if there were any suggestions when dining out.. also, should i be counting calories if I am doing low carbs/no carbs as well? because I use myfitnesspal and try to remain under 1200 calories a day but am not sure if i should be doing this with the low carb/no carb diet..
  14. I had surgery on 3/1/11 and go in for my first fill this friday (4/15/2011) and have been trying to do high Protein very low carbs for the last few weeks, since I am able to eat everything with no stuck episodes (at least not yet) and im probably eating over portion (approx 2 cups at one sitting)...here goes: breakfast: egg white veggie omelette with spinach, mushrooms, onions, chives and peppers...3 pieces of bacon 1/2 a slice of wheat toast with smidge of butter lunch: tuna salad with egg whites, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, parm cheese and balsamic viniagrette dinner: grilled chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese and grilled asparagus OR baked walnut and goat cheese salad with lowfat blueberry pomegranite viniagrette from Unos Pizzeria snack: 100 calorie cheese stick with a few pieces of pepperoni
  15. Hi everyone: I am 18 days post op and just have a few questions. I am a faithful lapbandtalk member and have used this site as a huge support system during and after my surgery process. My question is, I am 18 days post op and now that my swelling is going down, I, like most you fellow bandsters am experiencing no restriction whatsoever....I am hungry every 2-3 hours, i can swallow pills with no problem....I have been taking Biotin Multivitamin capsules in case of hair loss and am easily able to swallow them as well as eat just about anything without having any problems...so my question is, are your "stuck" stories during post op prior to your fills or after you get your fill? I am also curious to know that during this post op no restriction phase, since I am not experiencing problems with any foods going down, can I try salad or pretty much anything else prior to my first fill on April 15? Thanks!
  16. Hi everyone! I was banded on 3/1/11 and am currently 13 days post op and have just begun introducing eggs into my diet. I cheated a little bit with a soft crabcake and some butternut squash yesterday (and feeling terrible) after being so sick of strained soup! I have a few questions hoping some of you bandsters out here could help me. So here goes: food questions: - at what point is it ok to attempt to introduce salads into my diet ? (i have been craving this walnut goat cheese salad from unos pizzeria for about 3 weeks now and want one soooo bad!!!) -at what point can i begin attempting to take in vegetables and seeing which ones agree/dont agree with my band? -at what point can i possibly try some bread? - at what point can I begin taking Aleve/Advil again when I get a headache? I am already off the blood thinners but forgot to question my doctor about this. lap band post op questions: I have been nervous about eating anything other than liquids and the only discomfort or rather "weirdness" i have felt so far has been actually feeling the liquids or food go down into my stomach, not sure if i am explaining this correctly but it is exactly what I feel and although I do not feel much restriction with eating (I can only assume from reading on here that's because I haven't had a fill yet), I am still trying to be careful about what I eat and how much. We go out to eat alot in my family and I am trying to portion control my food and stop way before I would even consider being full even though I feel like I can pretty much eat the amount I could prior to the surgery My question is, how do you know your full other than your own brain telling you...is it a pain you feel in your chest? stomach becomes queasy? etc... Although I was only banded 13 days ago and am still mostly on liquids and eggs, I was wondering if I could probably attempt to introduce some soft meat such as chicken to see how I react to it? I have been waiting 15-20 minutes after I eat to drink anything..is this enough time or should I be waiting longer? any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  17. Hi All.. My surgery is scheduled for March 1 and my Dr prescribed the 2 week liquid diet as 4-6 Protein shakes a day, sugar free jello/pudding, broth, and all sugar free drinks...for the shakes portion he suggested slimfast. So here I am, I decided to start the diet this past monday instead of tuesday just to give me a head start, by Monday afternoon I felt like death. The slimfast shakes are not only disgusting but are not filling at all. I started reading the posts on here when it came to other peoples' pre-op diets and became so frustrated with mine that I called my drs office and told them I have to have some type of nourishment (i.e. food) even if its egg whites and vegetables for one of the meals. Of course, my nutritionist recommended against it but said that I was on the right track in terms of what I was planning on replacing it with IF i decided to go that route. After reading all the posts on here, I am a little overwhelmed with some of the protein products that have been suggested as I am completely clueless on how to go about even picking something to make my attempt to sticking to this easier....I know I know that after surgery we are all going WEEKS with this type of diet plan and if I can't get through it now how am I going to get through it afterward? well let me say this, for the surgery, I have quit smoking after being a smoker for the last 20 years without so much as going more than a few hours without a cigarette, quit drinking socially and now quit completely eating 2 weeks prior to never being able to ever eat the same again? I am having a hard time and could really use some help/guidance here..... thanks in advance..
  18. Hi everyone I am getting cold feet for my surgery which is scheduled for tomorrow. I feel like I am one big failure. My doctor put me on the all liquid for 2 weeks prior to surgery diet and I couldn't even stick to it fully (I incorporated 1 high Protein no carb meal into my daily plan). I am so mad at myself. I have come this far and even stopped smoking to have this surgery (was a smoker for 20 years) and now I am feeling like 1 big failure because of eating habits. Im scared that my inability to stick to this all liquid plan is going to cause my Doctor to tell me my liver is too fatty and to do an open lapband surgery instead of the laprascopic. I don't know what to do but I am so scared right now that i am ready to call the office and cancel. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  20. hey everyone! Thanks for all of your posts and encouragement..I must say i was extremely down when I posted this and have since not only found a shake that I loooooove (muscle milk is AWESOME) but have also got past the 3 day miserable feeling!!!! I am finding it a little easier since I am still incorporating one high Protein meal into this plan with plans on full liquids beginning 5 days before surgery but I am happier now that I found one shake that I really like!!!! thanks for everything!
  21. I also quit smoking due to the lap band surgery and I'm scheduled to be banded on March 1. I quit approximately one month ago using CHANTIX...this is a wonder drug!!!! I was a 1 pack a day smoker for 20 years with only a few hours ever going by without a cigarette mostly when I was on an airplane....but after about the 3rd week of chantix...i am proud to say I am completely done and feel great because of it!!!!
