I dont want to stop nursing my baby :(
SuzyB replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to the ped, surgeon and a dietician. As others have outlined, your calorie intake will be very low. Your stomach will need time to heal. Your body will need calories to heal you. -
Did you get any information from your surgeon? Follow that. If you don't have anything from him, then look in the post op diet for suggestions on a plan to follow.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I would call your insurance company and ask for a written copy of their requirements. I know bc/bs for my plan had eliminated the 6 month diet requirement. Perhaps there was an error. I would make sure you get in writing the defination of 6month supervised diet. Then see if you can use some of the time you worked with the dietitcian toward that 6 months. I am so sorry the surgeon's office dropped the ball for you. I wish there was a way for them to "fix" their mistake.

The 90 comes from the 60% of excess weight loss that is the average amount lost by vsg patients. I am stil preop but I see many people here losing much more that just the average. My dr sets the first goal at the 60% number.

I am so sorry to hear this. I will keep you in my thoughts.

I am laughing because the Unjury ad next to this post, has a protein shake in it with a straw.

I hate when my husband makes statements like that. If I do something once, I always do it according to him. I have learned to tune him out.

You need to check your policy. Many companies offer various levels of coverage. One person may have it fully covered, where the next the employer opted out of barIatric surgery.

SuzyB replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got my date at my first appointment. July 19th, my surgery date is Sept 16th. -
How do you know you was approved? ?
SuzyB replied to ReadyNewM3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called my insurance company directly. I still had a hard time believing until I got my preauthorization letter from the company. -
I've only met my surgeon once for 5 minutes... normal?
SuzyB replied to birdmadgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 1hr meeting with him. And then I did my NUT, Psych eval with others and I go back on the 10th for a preop with him. I know he does not do a pre op diet. One thing from what you said is call about smoking. I know my office will do a nicotine test prior and if you fail, you do not get surgery. Other offices have other practices so it would be good to know if you need to completely quit or cut back. -
I think it is completely normal. You are making a change that will last a lifetime.

In Colorado and I think California, there is a chain called Wahoo's. They are known for fish tacos. I stopped in for lunch and they now have a paleo plate. It was 4oz of 2 different meats, chicken, fish, beef. your choice, 2tbls of guacamole and some sort of cabbage slaw. Low carb, high protein. 43gr of protein.

anyone else just get done with preop appointments and waiting for approval?
SuzyB replied to Mommie4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my date and I just have to do my preop appointment with the surgeon and the hospital. That will be sometime in the next 2 weeks. Then it is onward to surgery. -
Yesterday, was my kid's first day of school so there were lots of moms at the local coffee shop. First time in 12 years, I have had all kids in full day school. So I was very happy. While there, the office called me to confirm I was approved for surgery. I am not telling many people, I had to contain my excitement. She tells me I was approved. My comment was something along Ok that is good. She then repeats the info. I say ok then what do I need to do next. When inside I was jumping for joy.

Meals for you vs. meals for family
SuzyB replied to Reigo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be watching this. I have 4 kids who all have different tastes and I try hard not to be a short order chef. I hope that I can find enough ways of cooking that at least get them to try the food. I admit I am worried for the 2 wk full liquid stage. How will it be to cook stuff I cannot eat. I am working on getting several meals in the freezer so I have to only reheat. -
you feel guilty because you lied. I have only told a few people I am having surgery. I am hope that people do not ask directly if I had surgery, because I do not want to be dishonest.

refried beans are a good source of protein. Mix some sour cream into it. If the smoothie takes you all day, imo that is fine as you can only absorb I think around 20-30 grams at time so it would be a good thing that it takes you so long.

From Overeating to Drinking All Meals?
SuzyB replied to cmcrider's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had those thoughts also. I have tried on my own and failed. I have chosen to go the surgery route as I want to be healthy. I have 4 kids and I need to be here for them. I have been defeated enough. -
Since Sunday, now each and every page here loads then I get a warning message, unresponsive script. I click on stop script and it works fine. It is very annoying though. I am using firefox on a mac... Was there some programing changes here? Is anyone else getting the same problem?
