Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has experienced very bad nausea after eating? For the last 4 days now everytime I eat I get a feeling like I'm going to throw up. I don't feel tight around the band area, like I would if I'd overeaten. All the discomfort is lower, in my abdomen area. I'm not actually vomiting though, just the nausea. To describe it, it's almost like morning sickness (I'm not pregnant). Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Kirstin

Hi all :-) A few weeks ago I started getting bad reflux at night and whenever I lay down. It doesn't matter if I have a solid dinner (like fish) or a liquid dinner (soup). I've even tried not having any food or liquid within two hours of going to bed, which didn't work. I find that even fluids often seem to sit above the band for ages too. Like I had some cold coffee about 3 hours ago and I can still feel it sitting there :-(. I wake up coughing and regurgitating and often my throat feels so burnt afterwards I find it hard to breathe. Just wondering does anyone else have or had this problem? My next appointment is on 16.12.11 but I think I might have to try to see him earlier. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :-) Kirstin

Hi guys, I really want a rest from my band over Christmas, but I'm scared that my doc will refuse to completely unfill me (or nearly completely). I've had some problems with it too lately, like acid reflux and PBing, which are also influencing my decision. Does anyone else have experience in this matter? I'm really worried he will refuse or give me a lecture :-(

Just an update guys! I had 0.6 removed from the band and am now back on track again! No reflux! :-D

Oops, cut out some of my own post lol. Meant to say I'll be getting a temporary unfill when I go overseas in 2013 :-)

Just an update guys! I never had the complete unfill because guess what? I was having a "weak" moment, when the cravings were hitting me hard! But with a LOT of willpower, I got past it, thank goodness! Anyway, I went for a check up a few weeks ago and explained my problems, night reflux, PBing etc. My Doc agreed immediately that I was probably too tight, and sure enough as soon as he put the needle in he could feel the pressure. So he left the needle in for a few seconds to let the band "loosen". He ended up removing 0.6 mls and what a relief it was! I'm now back to eating "good" solid foods, and not just living off Soup, ice cream and custard!! Plus I'm starting to loose weight again now that I'm able to eat 3 meals a day again :-D. Although I admit I usually have to force myself, since even before the band I almost never ate Breakfast. But I find with the band that if I don't eat enough, I go into "starvation mode" and don't loose weight. So to those who believed that I wanted an unfill just so I could "pig out", you couldn't be more wrong. However I will be getting a complete (temporary) unfill then, partly to have a holiday from the band as well as work, and partly because if something should happen I don't want to be half a world away from my Doc :-). For anyone who doesn't like the sound of that, would you work everyday for 30 years without taking a holiday? Unlikely. Also I'm already 32kgs down from my weight loss goal of 61kgs. By the time I go away I will have lost at least another 15kgs. Being that close to my goal weight, even if I gain a few kilos it won't matter since as soon as the band is tightened again they'll quickly vanish again!

I'm hoping to get enough taken out that my restriction will be gone. I wanna have some meat over Christmas, and eat normally for a little while lol.

Dr. Metz Wouldn't Fill My Lap Band Because I Smoke
Giggles_syd replied to glowormvl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow I've never heard of smoking having anything to do with the band either! I'm curious now lol. -
Actually it is a good question. There is a website by a well known Lap Band surgeon that actually recommends having a needle at home in case of emergency unfills. Not to use at home of course, but to take to the hospital with you if for whatever reason you can't get hold of your regular Lap Band Dr. He said this is because while most nurses/doctors can unfill (but not fill) the band, not all hospitals carry the special needle used. I'm actually thinking of asking my Dr about this to see if it's relevant in Australia.

Thanks guys! Strange how it took several weeks after my last fill for this to happen! I was a bit worried that the band may have eroded or something, but apparently when that happens you normally stop loosing weight or even start gaining, but I'm still loosing weight. I was too tight once before to the point I was living on a few sips of full coke and about 100g of drinking yoghurt a day for a week! When I went back he could tell I was too tight as soon as he tried to take some Fluid out, because he said he could feel the pressure. Lol he only took out .2ml but it's amazing what a difference it made! I went home and got out a baby medicine dropper to see how much fluid that was. It wasn't even 10 drops! :-O
