Health degenerating post lapband
Gerbera replied to megan71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I suffered something similar on a couple of occassions. Mine was more about lack of nutrition and dehydration. I have ended up in Hospital a couple of times. I also refuse to unfill and put on weight. I learnt nutrition was extremely important. I decided to make my normal meals like I do for my husband and vitamise mine. I container it and freeze it in small containers and have at any given time 10 different varieties of foods to eat. Very vitamised and some near liquid stage. Anything From Garlic prawns, Soups, spaghetti bolognese, Mongolian beef with vegetables, savoury mince and vegetables, Risotto, I vitamise anything pretty much and it tastes great. I eat it with mash potato or rice or on it's own. Some of this also came about, because I recently had Teeth Braces put on and that has added to my eating dilema. I hope this helps you some. When I'm thirsty I drink milk or chocolate milk. I eat a small amount of chocolate daily to get my fix, but I am managing to keep the weight off, and feel a whole lot better. I exercise daily walking or walk aerobics for around 30mins. I hope this helps you some :frown: -
I'm hoping someone can answer this question for me Why after a fill, do we need another and another? Does the actual stomache shrink as we lose weight? OR Do we stretch it as we eat more and more solid foods? Why not just one fill and thats that? I understand after the surgery, theres a lot of swelling and they would have to do a fill after all the swelling goes down. BUT why a fill and a fill and a fill? I don't understand how it works?? Can anyone shine any light on my question? CHEERS to Happy Healthy Eating <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________

CHEERS Andrew Thanks so much for the information I suspect your right about the type of band I have WoW havn't you done amazing? 45lbs in about a month? HOLY SMOKE - Congrats - Well Done! Was all that done since the band? or did you lose some on a liquid diet before surgery?
-
Thanks everyone for your caring replies :success1: Seems I wont need that unfill after all Last night I ate a Meal NO PAIN I ate 1/4 cup of rice and a very small piece of grilled fish. Off out tonight for a Birthday Dinner with some friends. SEAFOOD here I come I don't mind about how little or how much I can eat, just that I can eat. I know it will get looser as the weeks goes on. Thanks again everyone, have a Fabulous Weekend March Goal: I havn't managed the pool this week, I have failed miserably on my March Goal. They have changed my times an hour earlier (before work) and with it getting darker and cooler now, I'm not getting up in time to do the breakfast, prepare lunch etc all before 7am. Truth is I'm tired, I've extended my hours at work by 2 hours a day and I'm still adjusting. CHEERS to Happy Healthy Eating

Thanks ibrahem Appreciate your answering my question. I'll give it a few more days and see how it goes. Its 7 days now, I'll give it a few more days and maybe make an appointment if I'm still unable to eat. I don't have any pain unless I try to eat. Tonight I had 1 bite of cheese with a bite of a cracker and instantly I was hurting like I had overeaten. Looks like no Birthday cake for me next week
-
Thanks Banannie for the words of wisdom, I'll head your advice. I'll see how it goes till the weekend. If I'm not able to eat food by then I will definately make an appointment for thr Dr Thanks again. Unbelievable you didnt lose weight while you were not eating hey?
-
Ibrahem: Thanks for letting me know it could be about 1.5 weeks. I feel better knowing this. I actually don't mind being on liquid and soup for now and the weight is certainly dropping off again. I had 2 weeks where it had about stopped. I have a Birthday next week, so I hope I get to eat for that, I'm going out with friends for a meal. I had been told the 2nd fill would feel far more restriction. I suppose soon I'll be complaining its not tight enough lol. I'll take advantage of it while I can. The Dr told me to book for an appointment for 6 weeks, I made an appointment for 5 weeks, that last 2 weeks is sometimes too long. StephC: So sorry to hear about your having to wait for your next fill. Hang in there with the protein foods and Good Ole will power till you have that fill YOU CAN DO IT! Good luck to you on your excercise regime, I'm still managing the pool 3 times a week. I'm a water baby so the water excercise works for me Jaqui: I'm already thinning slowly at my age, I'll die if I start to lose anymore hair. So Thankfully I'm not losing any at this stage. BUT I'm eating a lot of protein foods (now shakes till I am back on real food) and not losing fast. Keep up the good work everyone CHEERS to Healthy, Happy Weight Loss

G'day Folks I've been reading the posts about the various types of bands. For some reason my Dr has avoided directly answering my question on what type of band I have. I wonder if anyone out there can answer for me?? I asked was it a VG band he said no, thats an old model? All I know is it holds max 14cc and its a reasonably new model. I was Banded in December 2006 Anyone got any ideas how I can find out? I've done a google search, but I have to admit I'm no PC wiz. CHEERS in advance

Hey Guys can anyone help answer a couple of questions for me?? It's been 5 days since my 2nd fill & I'm still only able to digest liquids and soup. How long was it for most of you after your 2nd fill before you could eat food? Is this normal? Should I be worried? Will this loosen up in a short time? Do I need to go back to the Dr's? After my first fill, I could actually feel the tightness, but it relaxed after about 2-3 days and I was soon eating food again. I can definately only digest liquids and soup. No signs of it relaxing yet. But I don't have tightness or pain like last time. Any suggestions to help answer my questions would be appreciated CHEERS & Thanks in advance

Thanks so much BJean. Initially I felt at a disadvantage, but I've now accepted, this is what I have on my plate at the moment and I will deal with it the best way possible. This way I feel like I'm achieving rather than looking at my disadvantage Everything is looking good towards avoiding Knee Surgery Happy Happy Happy. I'll keep you posted CHEERS -
How is weight loss for people over 50?
Gerbera replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
G'day Folks Been a while since I popped in. I've been quite ill for a couple of weeks. I went for my 2nd fill 4 days ago YAY, he managed to do it at the surgery with far less prodding and poking, so no visit to the hospital @ $180 which pleases me  All fills at the Dr surgery were paid for in advance as part of surgery costs. I feel far more restricted this time, as I can still Veryyyyyyyy Slowly only get fluids down. I can feel the weight starting to drop off already. Reading back over the posts, looks like your all doing great CONGRATS! I've been averaging about 1kg (2pounds) a week also & thats with limited excercise. I do try to eat 3 Protein meals a day and get my Fluid intake in for the day. Thats about it for anything special I follow. I also had a visit with the Knee specialist the same day. He has stated I need to stay on Sedentry Duties for a further 3 months at work, continue with the weight loss and I may escape knee surgery YAY. So those of you walking, going to the gym etc, do a few extra rounds for me, coz I can't do it. I do however get to the pool 3 mornings a week and do Hydrotherapy/Aquarobics, toning, stretching etc. CHEERS to Happy Healthy Eating & Weight Loss -

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent VABandster - I'm so happy for you, I can feel your excitement. I hope the weight drops off for you. Two more weeks before I get my 2nd fill, but I'm being really really good with my eating and still losing. I'm guessing after my 2nd fill I will just reduce the quantity. Man I'm soooooo proud of myself for sticking to the healthy food choices even though I don't have that much restriction. I'm still sticking with the High Protein Foods Fish, chicken breast with salad and vegies etc Wishing you every success VABandster with this 2nd fill and I hope it stays satisfying for you. Maybe you have your "sweet spot"?

Hello, I am one month away from surgery, a little worried about clots & post-op sag.
Gerbera replied to Cleo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
G'day Cleo  I go along with kebsa, so much depends on the elasticity of your skin, your age etc. However to add to what kebsa has already mentioned, we all know tummy exercises can help. Once your past 6 weeks post op, you could try some tummy exercises or ab work. I'm walking every 2nd day, I go to the pool 3 mornings a week and do 100 ab twist each night, I'm really hoping it will help when I get closer to goal I'll deal with any loose skin when the time comes, but meantime, I'm doing all I can to assist my weight loss and toning. I started my surgery at 124 kgs, you feel Huge at 105, I'm dreaming at when I can get back to 105, not far now :woot: CHEERS and Good Luck -
wheetsin: king rule: piercedqt78: Thankyou all so much for taking the time to reply to my questions. I have really great answers to my questions now, Thankyou all for enlightning me. It does make a lot more sense now. I'm excited to have the band and excited to be losing weight. I guess I've just been feeling a little frustrated at it being so slow and the possibility of having to wait for a 2nd fill and possibly a 3rd to get to the "sweet spot" Thankyou all again  CHEERS to Happy Healthy Eating

Hi Beth Thankyou sooooooooo much for your reply, you answered it perfectly Thankyou I too would like to be less hungry and hope with everything that my 2nd fill sorts it out. I would hate to feel this hungry again after my 2nd fill and then have to wait another 6 weeks before my 3rd. I pretty well have the phycholigical/emotional/comfort eating under wraps (with continual self talk and monitoring) and I'm eating all healthy low fat, low carb, high protein foods. I'm convinced Carbs along with sugar and fat are addictive, the more you have the more you want NASTY NASTY hahaa. I wont even start on potato chips or the likes. Speaking of wraps, I've been making roll up wraps. I wonder if you have them there? They are about the only carbohydrate I'm eating. For my work lunches, I pack a small can of Tuna, or chicken, or some seafood some salad and make a healthy wrap YUMMO! I've even toasted them if I'm wanting something warmer to eat. Thanks again for your wonderful explanation CHEERS to Happy Healthy Eating

Thanks Betsyjane I'm not so concerned about the fill, but more about how hungry I get at times. I was wondering why they take 4-5 fills to get it right and was thinking why don't they just give it a big injection and a good restriction. I guess I'm frustrated at having to wait another 3 weeks before my next fill and then hope and pray its a good restriction, otherwise it's another 6 weeks before I see a dr again. Just seems like a waste of time, when I could be losing good weight haha. I'm doing reasonably well with my weight loss, however I would like to be less hungry and it not have to be so hard and have to use so much will power to stop eating. I have the physcholigical eating all sorted, I'm hardly ever comfort eating now and I'm eating high Protein foods that keep me more satisfied longer, everything I eat is low fat, low carb and healthy plus. I guess I just wanted to be less hungry and lose it faster. After spending the money and going through the surgery, I was hoping for more CHEERS & Thanks for your reply

Oh I hadn't heard that before, Thanks for your reply

Thankyou that makes some sense I suppose, with each person being so different. I've only had 1 fill so far. I have my next in 3 weeks. I was hoping to be less hungry than this Cheers and Thanks for your reply
