G'day Folks Hows everyone going?? I'm back home after my few days away Catching up on the posts. I tell you ............I need more spare time in my life Re Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen. I heard it can (in some cases) cause erosion on the band. The medication if it sits a while in the small upper pouch casues changes the surrounding tissue. (Hence erosion). February Challenge: Hey Everyone, I've taken on your idea to make a February Challenge. Mine is to increase my excercise. I am limited to what excercise I can do (fractured knee) (Severe Arthritis in my back). So I made a pact with myself to walk each morning for 30 mins, its more about getting moving, rather than aerobic excercise I got off to a good start this morning, I'll keep you posted Can anyone help?? Does anyone here have the recipe for Mock Fried Rice? Sirena63: Welcome to the Forum. Sure sounds like you had a nice postive experience with your fill and sounds like you have a good restriction - Lucky You. I had a fill under fluroscopy also just last Thursday and my restriction is also good. I was very uncomfortable for 2 days and went back to liquids. I'm managing some more vitamised foods now, but able to eat only a small amount. Good Luck with your weight loss. All fingers crossed you lose at a good and Healthy rate. How is weight loss for people over 50?
Gerbera replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
G'day Folks  I'm 51 soon to be 52years old. I'm about 6.5 weeks post op (banding) I've dropped a nice slow but regular 23 pounds (10.4 kilos). It's been great reading these posts THANKYOU all . I've been well into menopause for some 9 years now & gained more and more weight after I stopped each crazy diet I started. This lap Band is the best tool for losing weight for me so far, so long as I work it and listen to it. I'm aware I still have to be conscious of what I eat, how much I eat and excercise. I am somewhat limited with my excercise at the moment with severe arthritis in my back, and a fractured knee. But if I listen carefully to my band, ignore the signals to snack and overeat, I'm lsoing regularly. Without question those times still exist and always will. Hence thats how I got overweight in the first place. I certainly dont want to undo all the good work I have just done and I'm excited about the weight loss thats ahead I had my first fill yesterday at the hospital under fluro xray (all went well after an unsuccessful try at the dr's rooms) I'm loving the new restriction. It's nice NOT to be hungry again, I was really ready for the fill. I see the dr every 6 weeks for a fill. Congratulations to you all on your weight loss Journeys CHEERS to all, Happy Healthy Eating -
G'day Folks :rose: Well everything went well with the fill at the hospital. The staff were fabulous and made a big fuss of me over my weight loss and congratulated me It was much more comforting having it done under the xray and fluro. I had a 3cc fill in my 14cc band. They aksed if I wanted to have a local anaesthetic injection, I decided against it. I hardly felt a thing. I didn't feel any change till I got home and realised I had a slight tighness in my chest and absolutley NO hunger at all. I made sure I only had a Protein shake for my lunch before going, so my stomache was shrunk and as small as could be That way (my logic) thinks it will take better to the fill I've not had a reply back form the dietician as yet about the amount of food to eat 1 cup, .5 cup ?? The staff at the hsoital said stop when you feel satisfied jillrn: Congrats on your weight loss. Isn't is so nice when people notice our weight loss? I might ask to have all my fills done at the hospital. I dont want to go through that proding, poking and blind needle target aiming again. Only thing is, it cost me $180 of which $100 is covered by medicare I have to pay the other $80. They did say each fill will get cheaper. (Giggle cheaper by the dozen) LMAO. I paid $1,000 before my surgery, this was to cover ALL my fills and follow up appointments for 2 years. But the hospital said, I would have to take the payment matter up with the dr/surgeon. My payment to the Dr was for him to make the fills not the Hospital. LuckyGirl: I'll try having some soup when and if I get hungry later. They advised me after the fill to be careful and go back to fluids for a few days. And to be extremley careful with more solid foods. OfferRocker: The cooking course sounds excellent, I can see why your excited. Lucky You Yes Yes Yes Please pass on the recipe's. I'll be waiting in anticipation. The more variety to choose from the better I love love love the sound of your boneless chicken you made YUM! mypov: I am pleased for you that your fill went so well. Sit back now and watch the weight drop off GOOD LUCK! Ok it's been a big day, I'm going to rest my weary feet CHEERS to all, Happy Healthy Eating Ok I just got a reply from the dietician about pouch dilation, I'll paste her reply. Fantastic news - Well Done! I agree, the lap band forum provides you (and hopefully many others) that piece of mind that others may be able to shed some light on what you are going through because they have been through it!! As for pouch dilation, this is an occurance that is reduced by consuming foods slowly allowing food to pass through the pouch at a steady rate. When dilation occurs it is usually because foods are consumed too fast and hence a "back log" of food remains in the pouch before emptying. A meal of 1 1/2 cups should be consumed over 45-60 mins. Also keep in mind the volume of food tolerated is variable between individuals and despite the volume you need to stop when you feel full. Just to make sure and for your piece of mind, I suggest you discuss the volume your pouch could potentially hold with Dr Leong, I will follow up with him next week Re: his experiences in this area. I would also be very interested in the views shared by others regarding pouch dilation, if you could keep me posted I would greatly appreciate it! It helps me understand what information others may need to help with the success of the lap band. Thank you and KEEP UP THE BRILLIANT WORK!!!

I'll make a note to ask, when I next see the Dr also. I'll ask at my hospital Fill tomorrow, they maybe able to answer it for me I think your right and from what I read, it does happen over a long period of time. I was only this week realising I was starting to eat more and more. Sometimes upto 1.5 cups in a meal. I guess if I kept that up over a long period of time, I could be at risk of dilating (stretching it) It would be so easy to form a habbit of over eating and that become the norm and before you know it WHAM, we have overstretched. I still don't have a firm clarification on how much I should be eating? Every Dr tells there patient something different I'm going to email the dietician as soon as I finish this post CHEERS to Happy Healthy Eating

With Clear Tummies everyone could see what we have been eating -
Thanks for your support around my not-so-fill. It was painful, but the emotional pain was the most upsetting for me. I was really scared, like why would anyone poke around with a needle if they can't find the port HELLO! Maybe I have read too much on here, but all sorts of thoughts were running through my m,ind about piecing the tube, infections etc And who would be wearing all the pain and cost? I bet it would be ME! I was also upset that he did not take my worry or concern into account and continued to probe and poke regardless. Anyway I'll step down off my soap box. VABandster & kathyb: Please please please be very careful overeating, I just finished reading some veryyyyyyyyy scary & frightening information about pouch dilation (stretching) and complications in another thread on this forum. Please be very careful :rose: I found this information Under "Pouch Dilation" If you have some free time go an have a read, very interesting and informative and Yeah it made me re think my eating and put things in perspective. CHEERS & Good Luck

Good Morning!! Oh my that chirpy good morning even scared me lol. OfferRocker: Sorry to hear you have been down with a nasty cold. I never can take ibuprofen or aspirin for other medical reasons. So when I get a cold I use the old fashion hot Water Steam & Eucalyptus for the stuffy nose part and mild pain medication like panadol for the achy body parts. (The steam works a treat) and is so much more affordable. You can buy a proper vessel now, so it's not like Grandma used (the ole head over the hot water bowl with a towel) hahaaa. I don't know what brand band I have, but I do know it's a 14cc band. Yesterday he said he added a small amount of saline at the time of surgery. I'll find out what brand band I have in 6 weeks at my next visit. I'll keep you posted on how the xray hospital fill goes. Anything has to be better than prodding blind. StephC: My band is a 14cc band, thats all I know at this stage. Hey Thanks for the site. I LOVE chicken, did I say I LOVE chicken (Giggle) Your a wealth of information Thanks again for the web site Thats great you have the xray section within your surgery (Lucky you) I just hope I don't have to pay extra for having the fill done at the hospital. At the time of surgery, I paid $1,000 for all my follow up appointments and fills for 2 years. If they charge me, I'm guessing they will bulk bill it to our medicare system and hopefully I wont have to pay anything out of pocket. The hospital will still get their money but from the medicare system. All fingers crossed okiefamily: Hope your happier with your 2nd fill, let us know how it goes CHEERS to all, Happy Healthy Eating

Do you have to have it removed sooner or later?
Gerbera replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After the prodding and poking yesterday, I am relieved to have it done under xray. In fact if it doesnt cost the earth, (being it goes smooth) I'll insist on having it done under xray. I paid a $1,000 co paymentup front at the time of surgery, this was to cover all my fills and follow up appointments for 2 years. It will be interesting if I'll have to pay anything more to have it done at the Hospital?. He really did scared me yesterday prodding and poking with a needle when he couldnt find it with his hands first. I guess I'm curious if he couldn't find the port the first time, yet might find it the second time, I take it that the port moves around? -

Gerbera replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks alot Chickie. It sure was an ordeal, I went to work crying after and spent the afternoon thinking it was just me. I'm sure hoping the xray fill will be a whole lot smoother and simpler. I'm sure they forget we are humans under those proding needles sometimes To be absolutly honest I don't know what type of band I have, but I do know its a 14cc band. I'll have to wait 6 weeks now to find out. He wants to see me every 6 weeks I'll keep you posted on how the xray fill goes. CHEERS and Thanks for your understanding, I was really starting to wonder if I just wasn't coping well with the treatment and was just a woose. I suppose I'll have to have all my fills done under xray now?? -

Hey Folks Well my first follow up appointment was not so great He was poking around, proding and poking (hurt quite a bit) for about 10 minutes and could not find my port with his fingers/hands *Sigh* So then he gets a needle and says I'll have a poke around with the needle and see if he could find it. LIKE WHAT! He can't find it with his hands and now wants to find it with a needle? I froze. He then said I was too tense. SURPRISE SURPRISE I wonder why? *Gasp* Anyway he kept to his word and started proding and poking now with a needle, but still could not find my port So now I'm having to go to the hospital to have it done under an xray & light. He has ordered a 3ml = 3cc fill. From all the posts I've read about peoples fills they usually get .5 or 1cc. Mind you I have a ravaging appetite right now, so a tight fill won't hurt, so long as I can still get something down So now 2 more days till my fill at the hospital. I'll keep you posted. While I was there I did ask how long a life span the band had, he stated it had at least 20years. So long as there no other complications. Can anyone tell me is 3cc a big fill? sure sounds like a lot *sigh* CHEERS to all Happy Healthy Eating -

I was so upset I went to KFC and ordered a small tub of potatoe and gravy and a piece of bonless chicken and YES I ate it all (now I feel bad). I hope you slept well and resisted the temptation to sleep walk/eat kathyb: How much fill did you get on your first fill visit? CHEERS to all Happy Healthy Eating

I've not been getting the notifications to say someone has posted. So I look in occassionally. But I've been mostly relying on the notifications to let me know okiefamily: Sorry to hear your restriction is not great. Sure hope your next restrictions works better for you. I have my first follow up appointment with the Dr/Surgeon today. Of course I have all the nerves everyone else had. Will he do a fill?, Will it hurt etc etc. Wish me luck. I have a ton of questions I want answered also, hope he has time to answer them all. CHEERS to all I will let you know how my appointment goes

Do you have to have it removed sooner or later?
Gerbera replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The Dietition I saw in the hsopital mumbled something about it having a 7 year life span. I'm seeing my dr (surgeon) today, for my first follow up appointment since surgery 6 weeks ago.I will ask him. Hopefully I will get my first fill/restriction also. I'm struggling a bit this last week with being hungry. I guess everything has a life span I certainly would not want to have the surgery every 10 years. Mind you in 10 years, they will have something new and wonderful I am sure. Another question is? Will the Health Insurances pay for a removal & or replacement? Especially if we have our weight down. I'll ask these questions today at my appointment. Wish me luck -
kaboom: I still get occassional shoulder pain, but mostly in my right shoulder. It's 6 weeks to the day tomorrow since I had surgery. It's often there all the time, but increases at times, after meals. I wonder if it's still gas pains??
-
KariWI: Has it been 6 weeks since your surgery? I experienced that stuck food thing or the overeating thing tonight. I was eating fried rice, I think it was a mixture of eating too fast and too much. Too much BTW was about a cup. First I started with a full pain, then this major pressure, I had no choice but to bring it up. I'm with you it was totally aweful. It's like one of the worst hangovers when you feel like you want to die at that moment. I see my Dr/Specialist tomorrow & hopefully will get a fill/restriction  I'm still trying to re learn what I can and can't eat, now that I can eat.

Nykee: 100 pounds is absolutly amazing!! Hang in there your just under half way  What's another year in your life, if it means acheiving your goal  I can't wait till I can say I've lost 100pounds CONGRATS! -
G'day Folks  I havn't been around for a lil while. Life has been keeping me busy, not to mention I had to find out how to find the new thread (embarrassed smile). We have just had Australia Day Holiday here and I've been away for a few days. Took me some time to read all the posts. Sounds like a few of you have had your first fills and doing really well Thats comforting. I've been kinda nervous about going & of course not knowing how he will do the fill. I can't say needles excite me :scared: lol I have my first follow up appointment this Tuesday 30th January. I'm expecting I'll get a fill. This last week since I went onto more solids (mushy/soft foods) I've been eating more, so I'm kinda really hoping I'll get a fill/restriction. I'm still losing weight regularly an average of 1 kilo (2 pounds a week) so I'm not complaining. It's just strange to have an appetite and be wanting to eat again after the liquid phase. If I don't get a fill this visit, I'm sure I'll have problems within a couple of weeks. I really thought I had control of my portion size and hunger, but soon discovered that was only while I wasn't hungry hahaa. Bring on the fill. I'm hoping to find out more about the type of band I have, whether he did any kind of a fill at the time of surgery, if so how many cc's etc. So I'll be back in a couple of days to let you know how the appointment goes. I'm not looking forward to weighing on different scales (mine tell the truth) lol Keep up the good work everyone, good to be back home and intouch. To those I've not met before G'day and Welcome Ibreham: - Happy Belated B'day for the other day I have no idea how late I am ahhaaa. Oh By The Way, I could never get the Weight Loss Ticker Thingy to work for me, so I've just put my weight/Loss details in my signature. CHEERS to all Happy, Healthy Eating

G'day Rightsize:) Welcome to the Forum There's not a lot of activity on this Aussie roll call thread, however there are many threads for you on this forum site. A few are from Melbourne Australia and made there own Melbourne chat thread. So I look forward to and welcome some chat and activity in here at "aussie roll call" Now to answer your question about Alcohol, I guess I'm a casual social drinker and get drunk probably 3 times a year hahaa. So alcohol does not play a big part in my life. Since my surgery of course it has remained the same to pretty non existent. Like a few have mentioned alcohol is empty calories, so I guess you will weigh up your choices at the time. I'm working really hard to stay low calorie and low fat as possible. I can't afford the luxury of alcohol calories lol. I can't see how if your careful a few drinks will do much harm. Amourette: Welcome to the Forum Feel free to drop in and share your journey anytime. I'm still in early days of my banding. I struggled for the first 2 weeks. I seemed to bounce out from that struggle for the past 3 weeks and been on cloud nine (heaven) However I had an extremely emotional day today and wanted to fall back into "Bad" habbit eating. I was looking for food for my comfort. It shattered me becuase I thought I had passed through that stage. I guess it's always around to remind and taunt me. CHEERS to all Happy, Healthy Eating
