  1. I pretty much have told anyone that will listen. I posted on facebook and for the most part...everyone has been really supportive. I told everyone at work..and some were questioning why I was going to do it when I lost 20 lbs before surgery.. I simply told them, that for me losing isn't the problem, its keeping it off and I need help and that is what the lap band will do for me. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    ENOUGH ALREADY!

I guess I am different. I posted on fb I was having the surgery, I told all my co-workers, etc. I am proud of my decision to take control of my life. Yes I need help, but I am not ashamed to say I need the help. Yes the comments of some about how good I look sometimes bother me...one woman always calls me skinny..yeah like that is a fact 5'2" and 269 is a far cry from skinny. I won't ever be skinny, but I will not be obese or morbidly obese! I did this for my health and my desire to live as long as my grandmother...and at over 300 it wasn't going to happen. I love compliments, but everyone I know, knows this is a struggle for me...I have determination and that is why I will succeed and the band gives me the tool to keep off the weight this time. Good luck to all!

    Post Op Question

I never had a drain or a pump of any sort. I imagine it depends on each doctor and patient for the pump. Talk to your doctor!

    How much recovery time?

I had surgery May 26th and was shopping (but tired easily) two days later. Went to my post op appt on June 2nd and doctor said I could do anything I felt like doing. Just be careful. Listen to your body. Remember everyone is different.

    The Gym

I had surgery on May 26th and am going to the gym for the first time today. Think of it this way...the more you go to the gym the faster you lose the weight and tone up! Good Luck!

Fit into a new size today

I need to go check out all my clothes but wanted to wait til all my swelling goes down. I still have a little bit of swelling but headed to the gym tomorrow.
  8. I would say donate. if you want to keep like one pair of pants or something to remind you where you don't want to go again, that is ok, but not all of them. Mine are going soon. have the first pair of pants and blouse going SOON. Most of my pants were so tight I can wear them for awhile.

How long were you on mushies?

I went to my post op appt today and even though my doctor has a list of foods to eat or not eat...clear liquids, soft foods, etc through day 16 post op, he told me today I can eat anything I feel comfortable eating. He said if I try something and can only eat two bites...back up a little. I am so excited!
  12. I think a lot of it has to do with preparing you for a lifestyle change. They don't want to pay for a surgery that someone hasn't really thought out and considered all the changes that will be made to their life.

    Weight loss calculation?

I am counting from basically the second visit, because that is when I began changing my eating habits to prepare for the band. I cut out all candy, most potatoes, cut way back on diet cokes and started drinking lots of water. I have been without any soda's since Wednesday, May 25th, the night before my surgery.

    Losing more than 100lbs Unlikely??

Justin, what I would say is do research on all of your options. I was 304 and want to get to 155. It can be done. You have to consider all the facts including all the pros and cons of both.

    Post-Op...AHHH!

Maybe I am older than ya'll I don't know, but I was so ready for this that nothing is detouring me. My doctor has me on 4 different phases post op and I was on 2 week liquid diet pre-op. Post op- days 1-15 - Protein shakes, Water, special K water, decaf tea or coffee, sf Gelatin, sf popsicles, crystal light days 6-10 - Protein Shakes, water, cream of wheat, malt o meal or thinned oatmeal, fat free yogurt, sf pudding/custard, strained soup, or blended soup, whipped veggies or potatoes, baby food. days 11-15 eggs, lean ground meats, fish (tuna fish) shredded chicken, soft fruits and vegetables, limited whole wheat and whole grain starches. Good luck to you all and remember why we did this and what our future outlook is.
  23. Well here it is day 3 after surgery and still seem to be ok. some pain from gas but not too bad. I don't know what you consider older than most people but I am going to be 55 on Friday, so I know my body doesn't heal as fast as it used to. I go for my post op on June 2nd. I am going back to work on Tuesday, so it should be interesting. I am getting about 4 ounces of Protein shake down and a popsicle and Water..that is about it. Hope all is still going good for you.

    May Bandsters

My surgery was May 26th. I am getting ready to go to Sam's now...lol...not sure if I will try walking or take the riding cart. Still get tired pretty easy. Don't have to use a pillow or anything to get up...but I had two c-sections and a hysterectomy in my past and this is a breeze in comparison. I am scheduled for my post op with my surgeon on the 2nd and then for a fill on the 23rd. Not really hungry at this point. Good luck to all!
  25. I am in San Antonio and had my surgery on May 26th. Still sore but all in all the surgery was much easier than I expected. I am planning on going back to work on Tuesday, I have a desk job.
