new here...terrrified
sweetpea61956 replied to paul atreides's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
ok Paul, here is the deal, I wish I had done this YEARS ago. I am 55 years old and 5'2", I started at 304 lbs when I started seeing my nutritionist in February. I had surgery on 5-26-11. I had to stay overnight because of an insurance requirement. I didn't have a catheter. I was up and walking the halls within 30 minutes of being in my room. I am now at about 253. I had some gas pains but nothing really bad or at least not to me. You move a little slower the first week or so but still it wasn't any worse for me than trying to walk around the grocery store 50 lbs ago. I stopped all sugar in February. I cut back on my diet sodas and now have 1 or 2 a day, but I drink LOTS of Water..today alone, I have already had 88 ounces. I eat anything I want, just less of them. I haven't had Pasta yet, but only because I haven't wanted it. As Dave said, this is not a magic bullet, you have to work on it and really want to lose the weight and keep it off. I had high blood pressure, sleep apnea, reflux, and was pre-diabetic. The only medication I take now are my Vitamins and Calcium. I go to water aerobics twice a week, other than that...I pretty much sit at a desk all day...now, I know I will have to up my exercise soon, but the more weight I lose the more I FEEL like doing. My suggestion to you is..go to a seminar, and if they have support groups, go to meetings.. meet people that have had it done. Like many have said, each doctor is different so the pre-op diet is different. After surgery for probably the first week, you may not even feel hungry. Keep us posted and good luck! -
you could need an unfill.

1st step...lap band consultation
sweetpea61956 replied to Nicole Justine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a 4 month wait and am so very glad I did. I took the time to really make sure my brain was ready. I stopped all sugar in the first month, started drinking water (which I hate) and went from 6-8 20oz diet cokes a day to 2. Take the time to start practicing...eating slower, taking smaller bites, not drinking when you are eating. If you can start exercising..I didn't but I wish I would have. You will be surprised how fast the 6 months will go. Good luck! -
What do you do on the days when your STARVING..

I believe we all need support from somewhere. I am lucky, I have a husband, family and friends that encourage me on a daily basis. So here we are anytime you need us.. We are your new friends.

I agree with Dave. For you..the band wasn't the answer or part of the equation. For me, it is going to be everything I needed. I still have to watch what I put in my mouth, I still have to exercise, but now I have a constant reminder. I needed the extra boost. After at least 40 years fighting my weight, I needed the help the band is giving me. I hope all that you have done helps you keep losing and happy.

Still losing very quickly - no fill?
sweetpea61956 replied to roziecakes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to my first appt for a fill on June 23 and didn't get a fill. my dr says if you are losing 2-3 lbs a week and not hungry between meals there is no need for a fill. Congrats on the awesome weight loss. -
you have to remember on the stars, ie Kirstie Alley, that is a STARS size 16, not usually the normal 16..lol

sounds to me like you need a fill and sorry but the ice cream and potatoes need to go too -
here is mindset change...on Father's day, I took my husband to Joe's Crabshack..they have what they call "steam pots" here is what is in an example... 2 whole lobsters, 1 pound of clams, shrimp and smoked sausage, red potatoes and corn on the cob....anyway in the past we each had one and so did his 15 yr old...well this time, I had grilled mahi mahi and didn't eat all of it...and as I watched them eat...I was in awe...thinking..gessh how can they eat all that? Almost made me sick watching... Congrats your changes and you weight loss

I am in Texas and I am a member of Bally's and go straight from work, but at this point I am doing 2-3 nights of water aerobics. Good luck and congrats!

I like the Fiber Choice chewables.

my solution..I am getting out my sewing machine..lol

congrats!! that is a victory! I bought a pair of jeans at Walmart..took two pairs to the fitting room and had to buy a smaller pair than either of the ones I took in. I decided, I needed a pair, since my only pair I could take off without unbuttoning or unzipping. $18 for two months...not bad.

I researched all types of WLS and decided on the band for mainly 3 reasons: 1) short recovery time, 2) reversable 3) I could lose the weight, just couldn't keep it off, the band will be my constant reminder. Good luck

See I started at 304 and am 5'2" and the least I remember weighing was 155 when I was a senior in high school..37 years ago. 33 years ago I got down to 170, so at this point...I am around 260 and I will be happy to see 199. LOL.. but I would like to get to 155. But realistically....I am setting minor goals....250, 200, etc.

I just went out to dinner with 11 other people and I enjoyed myself. I ate off the menu, ordered an appetizer then shared it because I was full, but I had a blast! Don't fear eating with people, just pay attention to what your body tells you, it will tell you when enough is enough. Good luck

Since February the only sugar, ie..cakes, Cookies, candy, I have had are 1/2 of brownie, 1 donut and 2 Big Red's and those were all in February. Since then we have had MANY cakes at work for birthdays, going away celebrations and donuts just because, and I have passed on them all. Today I went to a Cici's pizza buffet and they have the best cinnamon rolls, I have ever tasted. The women I went with, had a slice of Bavarian cream pizza and the cinnamon rolls...I had neither. I know I could have a bite...and it wouldn't hurt me...but I also know me well enough at this point that "a bite" will not be enough. Its a choice and my choice is to do without. I had two small slice's of pizza (one of which was spinach) and I don't feel guilty because I didn't "cheat". I made a choice to eat slow and small amounts. Would I have liked to have more, of course, but did I NEED more to satisfy my hunger...NOPE.. Everyone keep up the good work! -
as far as being old...I am 55, but...I have decided to be like my grandmother...at 70 she wasn't going to be old until she was 80, at 80 she wasn't going to be old until she was 90 and when she was 90 she wasn't going to be old til she was 100...she died 4 months before turning 98...so she never got old and THAT is me!
