  1. I had a fill last Monday and I did liquids and then mushies for a few days like my doctor advised. I ate a food on Thursday and it made me sick after a few bites. After sliming I threw up and I started to worry that maybe I was too tight as I had never had problems with that type of food before. So being the idiot I am I continued to try to eat food that evening and the next day. After every meal I started sliming and although I never got sick again I felt pretty yucky. (Spitting so much I felt that my hill billy genes had appeared) So on Saturday I read the posts on here and after reading I decided that I would go back to liquids for Sat and Sun thinking that maybe I had got my stomach irritated and was pushing it. If I wasnt able to eat on Monday without sliming then I was going to go to the doctor for a slight unfill. So the break really helped me. I was able to eat all my meals (small but normal) with out any slime. I am not saying medically what will work for you but this really helped me out. I hope that you find some relief and a slight unfill is not a bad thing. I read someone post that they had a little taken out and then the next month had that and more added with no problems. Go figure.

    Progress Pictures

I dont plan to take progree pictures. I have some pictures that are from the holidays before I started the lap band journey. Since surgery on 3/11 I havent taken any pictures but I have a little calendar and I write down my weight each Friday. I think that is all the visual that I need to see that I am loosing weight. Maybe you could take one photo per month on the same day each month. That might be a little more obtainable and you will see real change.

    A little Nervous

I had my first fill on Monday. I had a group appointment with other people who had not had a fill. I guess it is easier for them to give the speech and new diet changes as a group of seven than to do it over and over again. When they called me back the doctor had me lay on a table with an xray type machine. He felt for my port and we were talking about Vegas with the nurse. I didnt feel the prink or any pressure and by the time I had thought of the name of the hotel we were staying at the nurse told me to drink the barium and they watched to adjust the fill according to how the Fluid was going through the band. Mind you we were still talking in a span on 1 minute. The needle was removed and I didnt feel it still. I was show the screen and told to hang out for a few minutes and that was it. No big deal.
  5. I would call your doctor to be on the safe side. I did not have any of the symptoms that you have mentioned. I had my first fill today and the other patient that were waiting with me said that she had to have a slight unfill following surgery because they felt sick often. I hope that you are on the mend soon.

    FIRST FIIILLLL!!!

I know how you feel about food guilt. But I have to really put it in perspective because I know that I used to be able to eat 2-3 cups of mac and cheese and now my doctors diet says that I can have 1/2 cup of Pasta. So I eat my protien first and veg 1/2 cup. Then if I still want the mac and cheese I eat my half cup serving. But to be truthful because it takes me so long to eat the first two when I get to the mac and cheese I have so far had like three bites and I am full. Now if I didnt have it on my plate as an option then I would feel really deprived but this way I know it is there if i want it. I go for my first fill this morning. I wish you the best luck on your journey.

  8. I had gas pains for two weeks and two days. I can tell you it gets better. It was rough and the gas x did little to help me personally. I felt that the heating pad worked better and I took my pain medicine at night because I felt more pressure when I laid down. When I was able to eat tuna and real food my weight lose slowed down but the gas went away. Now I am now almost at three weeks and I feel gas pains only when I eat too fast or take too big of a bite. Best wishes!

    I feel pretty!

Yay! I am so happy for you. I started at the same size as you and I am looking forward to the journey. I walked by a fitting room at Target yesturday and was thinking of trying on a few things. Not that I would buy them as I am just two weeks post op but I am excited to see where I am headed. I have a wedding to go to at the end of April and I am thinking that I will save my fitting room moment till next month. I am hoping to see the scale more a little more when I can go to the gym.
  10. I was banded on 3/11 and I have some pain in the port area. Mine is not bad but I have heard that the port site is the place where the pain lingers a little longer. Most of my pain is if one of my students bump it just right or I turn weird. I would call your doctors office just to ask a nurse to be safe because the weekend is coming and if you have an infection and need an antiboitic better now than on the weekend. Is the area red or hot to the touch?

    Scale Obsession

I have the habit of weighing myself every morning. I dont stress too much about the number. I feel that before surgery I used to avoid the scale for months at a time. I knew that I was always going to be disappointed so why bother. Now I get a little motivation to start my day to see the scale at a lower number than when i started. I feel that I start my day off on a good note.

weigh lost 4 wks post op

I am only one week post op but from what I understand initially people loose weight weeks one and two but as food it reintroduced the weight loss stops or slows until after your fills and you find some restriction. My doctor told me yesturday that it is not uncommon for people to stop loosing until their first fill at 4 weeks. (his schedule) so I think it is kind of expected. You will do great!
  13. I am a week and a day post op. I know that my day four was the worst for gas pain. I dont know why but I felt gas pain in my chest and bowel area. I am telling you I felt like a macys day float. It has gotten progressively better. I did have some mild gas pain today but I just started eating mushie type foods and I think that might be causing a little of mine. But on a pain scale I would say it is a 2. Now it is almost just irritating. My doctor said that for the first few weeks to expect some gas but that it does get better. So my advice is use a heating pad, walk, and take Gas X strips.

Day 3 and water feels stuck!

I have to tell you that my third and fourth day were the worst part of this whole thing. I know that I had periods where I was taking too big of sips and it would feel tight on my chest. I switched from water to something warm like tea and I was able to get more down also I took my pain meds that day too. If it continues I would call your doctor and maybe you need an unfill of any fluids that he put in until the swelling goes down. Hope you feel better soon.
  15. doodlebugsmom

    Can you feel/see your port?

I just had surgery last friday and at this point I havent felt mine. I am only guessing at this point where it is. I am still swollen but even my husband couldnt feel it. I hope that it stays that way. But if it becomes an "outtie" as I loose weight I am cool with that. It is a small price to pay to become healthier for me.
  16. I would make a list of any questions that you have. When I went in to the appointment I told him of what my fears were during surgery. I was scared of the tube in my throat and of getting sick afterwards. My doctor did a great job of addressing my concerns and on surgery day he went over them again to make me feel better. I feel that it is essential to ask questions now and share concerns. Part of his job is to make you informed about the whole proccess. In my case he showed me how small the tube was and then gave me an anti nausua patch behind my ears. Best of luck!

    Weight gain-is it normal?

I gained about 5 pounds the first few days after surgery. I was told by the nurse not to even weigh myself for a few days because I could become discouraged. But today I am 5 days out and I have lost 2 pounds of it. I think that it helped that yesturday I ate better (or drank I should say) and walked around a little more. It is hard not to weigh myself because on the preop diet my scale and I had such a good relationship and it felt like positive feedback. So dont worry about the first few days focus on getting in the fluids and the rest will take care of itself.

    March 2011 Bandsters

Just checking in. I had my surgery on March 11th. I had a rough night the night before last. I had such pain in my bowel area. I know too much info. I tried to not take the pain medicine and work through it. I was miserable. I had gas pain in my chest too. It was terrible. So yesturday I stayed on the couch for most of the day and used the heating pad. In the evening I took a walk around the block with hubby then a shower. I just stayed with the basics because I was cranky. It was not the incisions but the gas. I kept thinking that this cant last much longer. My husband made me take my pain meds at bedtime and I slept like a baby. I cant even tell you how much better I feel today. I have a little gas pain but not as bad as it was. I feel like a new woman. So I know that many of you are like me and think that you can get through the pain and force yourself better but let me tell you that I know better now. If you need the meds take the meds. So to all you newly banded people take it easy and although you will have ups and downs with the gas pain it does get better.

    GAS AND PAIN

I am 4 days post op and i have had a little gas pain. I dont really think that the gas ex helped me-maybe mentally but not physically. On a scale of one to ten-I would say that pain from incisions or gas was never higher than a 3. I have walked and walked and I really think that helps. When ever I would feel pressure in my shoulder area I would get up and do a little something. Like clean up the table or something little and the pain would go away. For me I got the best burps when ever I would eat a sugar free popcicle. I really wouldnt worry about the gas pain much. If it hits stand up and walk and it passes pretty quickly.

I am home now!!! I went in this morning at 7:30 for a 9:30 surgery. When I arrived I was taken for the lovely pregnancy test which of course was negative. The nurse had stated that it indeed happens that people find out that they are pregnant. I thought to myself that would suck after coming this fall. (Not to say that I wouldnt ever love a baby). At that point I was given a gown and my weight took. Next I had to have blood drawn because my lab work showed that I had low potasssium. All that standard tests like temp and blood pressure were taken. I was given my iv in my hand and the lady was fantastic because it barely hurt. Lastly I was given the shot in my tummy to prevent blood clots. (I was really scared of this because I had heard that it hurt or burned but truely it ended up being NOTHING to worry about. ) Then hubby came in and we talked for a little while as people came in and out of the room. When the anastesiologist came in I told him how I was scared to throw up afterward and it had happened in previous minor surgeries. He gave me a patch for befind my ear that would help with sickness. My doctor came in then and asked a few questions and answered a few of mine. He was really pleased that I had lost 15.5 preop and I told him that I knew what the scale said but I didnt see it. He told me that he was sure that I had lost some weight in my liver and he would indeed see the loose and not to worry. Next thing I knew I was giving my husband kisses and started to get nervous. The ride to the or was quick and I was given something to calm me. I dont think I was in that room for 5 seconds and I was out like a light. When I work up I was in recovery with someone talking to me or around me becuase there were other patients in the room. I forced myself to open my eyes a few times and tried to wake up. I probably took 20 min to keep my eyes open for any length of time. At about an hour they helped me get up and walk 20 steps to the barium swollow test. I felt a little wozzy kind of like I the feeling that I had taken Nyquil two hours ago. I only had to do one drink and they watched and it was over. When I came back my bed was gone and they had me sitting in a chair. I had an ice pack on my stomach and it felt good. They continued to ask if I had pain and I said no. My throat felt so much better when I had ice chips. They tasted like the best ice chips ever. Then I asked to go to the bathroom and they helped me in that direction and I asked for my clothes. They took out the IV and got me clothes. When i came out of the bathroom I was a little light headed and sat down for about 5 minutes at that point my wheelchair was there to take me to my car. I know all this sounds fast but they gauged the time in recovery based on my wants. Others who were there before me were several steps behind me because that it what they needed. The ride home sucked to be honest. Bumpy roads and traffice but I made it. I got home about 1 pm and hubby gave me my pain meds in which I slept in my own bed for about an hour and a half. Now I am couching it. I am sore a little my throat is picky a little but on a pain scale I am a two and that it really from some gas pains. When they get paid I walk for 10 minutes or so and then they seem to pass. Well that it is for now. Lots of love to you guys and this was a cake walk people dont worry.

    March 2011 Bandsters

I am scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30. I have to be there are 7:30. I have been really calm today about it. I am sure tonight and in the morning I will freaking out a little because I have one ever had one small surgery on my nose. I am mostly scared of the breathing tube and throwing up after surgery. But I am optomistic about it. I just need to get past this liquid diet. I have lost 14 pounds (Yay!) but I am really missing chewing food. Just the thought of Malto Mea on Sunday sounds like heaven. And I have never even had that before. Just the excitment of that makes me happy. Well I will try to post when I get home.

small loss on pre-op liquid diet?

I dont have the answers for you but I wanted to post anyway. I view this crappy preop thing (I am on day 8) as more of a mental change than physical. I know from the doctors perspective it is done to shrink your liver. But for me it is a detox of sorts from food. I have thyroid issues as well and that does make weight loss a challenge. However, I see your 5 pounds as 5 pounds that you dont have to loose later. I think 5 pounds is great and dont compare yourself with anyone else. This is your journey and you should be proud of how far you have come to this point.
