    taking large pills

I got the liquid kind. I think it Carlson brand but I got the Orange flavor and you only take a teaspoon 2ce a day and it is pretty good. No after taste or belching fish oil. It does have to be refrigerated after you open it.

    banded

Good to see you over on this side. I had my band yesterday too. I feel really good today but I was hurting a lot yesterday from the gas pains in my shoulders. Today hey are mostly gone and I got down a Protein shake earlier and have been doing a lot of walking.
  3. I had surgery this mornIng and it went great. I won't lie, it was a bit painful with the gas in my shoulder but I had a three hour car ride home and the first part of the day I was not taking enough pain medicine. The gas pain and sore throat was the worst. I have just been up walking all I can.
  4. good luck y'all. I am having surgery tomorrow morning (Wednesday) at 9:00 a.m. The closer it gets the more excited I get. We have a 3 hour drive to Dallas so we are going to leave about 2 a.m. to hopefully miss some of the traffic. I'm ready to leave now. Best of luck to you guys being banded later in the week.

    failure

Hey, my surgery is on the 23rd too. The truth is there is no such thing as failure. If we were following all of the rules and doing everything right then we probably wouldn't need the help of the band. My doctor just told me to do Atkins for 2 weeks pre-op and not to have anything to eat or drink after midnight. That is so that you don't get anything in your lungs (my sister said) when they lay you down for the surgery.
  6. I have less than a week to go now. I am so excited. I started doing everything I can to prepare myself for success. I tell myself daily affirmations of how well this IS going to work this time. I have been working out and trying to loose as much as I can pre-op. I figure it has to come off some time. It may as well start now. I walked 30,000 steps today, drank my protein shakes, had a couple of bites of home made beef jerky with no sugar and I feel so excited. Hope everyone else is as excited as me. I have been overweight since I was 16 (40) now and my wonderful (skinny butt) husband has promised me a whole new wardrobe when I reach a place where I am comfortable. Shopping trip, here I come.
  7. Woo Hoo HStanley, we are twinkies! Where are you having your's done at? I will be in Dallas, TX but I live about 2 hours away. Are you getting more excited as it gets closer? Just a few more days.

    Being fired

I am so sorry to hear that. That is just offle. However, I am a firm believer that God works in misterious ways. Go sign up for unemployment and use this time to walk your butt off. You've got 2 weeks before your surgery date and ya gotta loose it anyway. I am fortunate that I have not been working for a bit and my husband is so I just have been making it my official job to get up and walk and work out with my hand weights. I also stretch and bend while I'm cleaning my house. I got me a pedomiter and today I said I am going to put as many miles on this thing prior to surgery as I can. I put 30,000 steps on it today. Maybe this is God helping you get a great jump start before he gives you an even better job. Hang in their sunshine. It's all how ya look at it.

    NOT APPROVED

I don't think you have much to worry about. If you meet the BMI requirements or have other problems due to being overweight, you should qualify. I had more problems booking my apt with the surgeion than I did with the insurance company. I think a lot of people fall to the myth that insurance companies are against us but they really are not. Some people just try to break all of the rules. My paperwork was submitted on Thursday morning and Friday afternoon I called the insurance company and told them I was impatient and was just wondering if I could find out if it had been approved. The guy who answered the phone laughed and said he understood because he was impatient too. He told me that it had been approved but the letter to the Dr. office had not been generated but would be done on Monday. That helped my nerves over the weekenend but to be honest, I didn't have any expectations that it wouldn't be approved. If you meet the requirments and then do the insurance requirements, their is no reason you should be denied.

    Surgery Prep List

I was looking for the same thing. Someone had a list posted on here a few weeks ago so I was searching to find it. I also added a few things to my list that people have told me about. I got me a little stuffed animal (or pillow) to put on your stomach after surgery for when you cough or laugh. Some people told me that if you put a pillow or stuffed animal on your tummy that it really helps. Also, my sister had several stomach area surgeries and said for me to get some of those thermocare heat wraps instead of a heating pad. She said they work for about 8 hours and go all the way across your back. I found some at Wal-Mart for about $4 for a pack of 3. I am also a smoker and I have to stop a few days before surgery so I am taking some Vicks with me incase I have any problems with coughing after I wake up from the anesthesia. I also have a 2 hour ride home after wards so I grabbed some chewable motions sickness pills and some liquid tylenol. I know I am forgetting something. I know I have to take my glasses because I can't wear my contacts during surgery and I have to remove all of my jewerly so I have to remember to leave my wedding rings at home. The hardest is going to be not having anything to drink after midnight as I have to leave at 4 a.m. to make it to Dallas for check in at 7 a.m. I am so excited though. My surgery is Wednesday, Feb 23. I'm counting down the days. My husband and son are getting all excited for me too.

    Newbie from Texas

Tiffany, I am in Longview, TX but am having my surgery in Dallas at True Results through Dr. Marsden. He apparently has done over 4000 surgeries. So far the process has been fairly simple. I went on their website at www.trueresults.com and put in my insurance information and they called me a few days and told me my insurance covered the procedure. I have to pay my co-pay and 20% of surgery cost so the total is about $2400. I had to do a 3 month supervised weight loss program to meet insurance requirements for BCBS and some other stuff but it has gone pretty quick. I am having my surgery next Wednesday on the 23. Hope that helps.
  13. You will do great. I am right behind you in 2 weeks so Happy new day.....................yeah.
  14. Wow, I guess I am pretty lucky. I started my pre-op diet a few days ago but it is just low carb. When I met with the surgeion yesterday he also said that we could go out and enjoy a normal meal the night before surgery but just not to over do it. He did warn us that we could not have anything to eat or drink from midnight on, because it would cause him problems trying to perform the surgery with anything in the stomach. He said one guy showed up with a starbucks in his hand and was denied that day.

    Approved! Surgery date set!

Woo Hoo, Alright! I know the wait can be miserable. I met with my surgeion on Thursday and my paperwork was submitted Tuesday. I found out this afternoon from my insurance company that my surgery has been approved and they will generate the letter to my Dr. on Monday so hopefully I will get a date for this month then. I am so excited and can't wait to get this show on the road.

    not frustrated anymore

Me either, I just decided I was going to just keep working out and following the pre-op diet until I get a date and it's time. My stuff was submitted to insurance yesterday and I meet with surgeon tomorrow so I am just proceeding forward. I figure I have to loose it anyway and I can loose the weight without much of a problem, I just can't seem to keep it off by myself.

    Got my surgery date!

My pre-op diet consists of having haing 1 serving of 2 of the following for Breakfast, yogurt, fruit, egg, whole grain Cereal, toast, bagel, waffle, muffin, Meal 2=one Protein drink, Meal 3=one serving of lean meat or fish 4-6 oz, and a serving of a green vegetable, and Meal 4 is a Protein Drink, plus I can add sugar free Jello or popcicles.
  18. I had mine yesterday. I went in and talked with the Dr. first. He was very impressed with himself and his knowledge and spent 55 minutes out of an hour talking about how great he was. When I left, I was a little dissappointed because I felt I knew more about him than he did me. Then I had to sit in a room and answer questions about my personality as to if they were very true, somewhat true, mainly true, or false. The Dr. said It's not really a pass or fail thing as long as you are not addicted to drugs or alcohol or they see something outrageously odd in your personality profile.Hope that helps some.

    Smoking

I didn't know anything about the not smoking. I have been trying to quit and have been using an electronic cigarette because I don't like going out in the cold. My surgery is not supposed to be until early March but I guess I should quit now.

    Binge Eater

I have been binge eating on carbs for about 6 years now and have gained about 60 lbs. I'll loose it and regain it. I don't do it all of the time so I started doing research on the internet for carb cravings. I have done a lot of research the past couple of years because I found out that I wasn't processing my thyroid hormones the right way. After working with my doctor we found out I wasn't processing my T4 properly and they ended up putting me on pure T3 called Cytomel. To my great surprise and dissappointment, the medicine didn't help with my carb cravings. I also have a family history of depression and several doctors have tried to put me on antidepressants. I have refused but after having lab work done and doing a lot of research, I found out that I am severely Vitamin D deficient. If you are Vitamin D deficient then you don't convert serotonin the right way. I started taking vitamin D supplements and that helped a little. Then in the process of doing more research I heard about an amino acid called Tryptophan. Normally you get it in just about all meats but the other amino acids in Protein compete to get past the blood brain barrier. I also found several formums where people were talking about another amino acid called Glutamine. I ordered both. I have been taking the Tryptophan first thing in the morning when I first wake up and then wait an hour to eat any protein. Then I take a tablespoon of the glutamine power and mix it with a little juice. I also take a 5 hour energy drink (you get at Wal-Mart because it has so many good Vitamins in it.) I have been taking this for just a little over a week. I feel like a million bucks. I have lost 4 lbs and my carb cravings are gone. I didn't think this was ever possible. I would advise you to do your own reearch on it but going to the doctor and getting a blood test to make sure you are not vitamin or mineral deficient is a good place to start. My regimine above has also greatly increased my motivation to work out and I don't seem to have as many aches and pains as I used to. I developed plantar faciates a few months ago in my feet and the tryptophan seems to help with the inflamation. In my research I found that it is given to a lot of fibromyalgia sufferers. This is important to me because I don't have any real medical problems yet but they run in my family, as does depression. My mom committed suicide in 2003 after suffering from being over weight all of her life and then developing health problems related to it. I am supposed to be banded in late Feb or March but just having the carb cravings subside is inspiring. Just listen to your body. That was the first place I started. I know it is not normal to binge carbs. Start with your symptoms, read everything you can on it and then talk with your doctor about your findings. Best of luck to ya.
