  1. You're 24. You're too young to be locked down with someone. Let him go and date and when your weight loss has settled and you have adjusted to your new you, find the real one. This guy isn't going to change.

    BCBS FED

Has anyone had any problems with approval if you did not lose a whole lot of weight during your 3 months? Mine has been during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and birthday (each month something) so I haven't really lost diddle (less than 10lbs) and I have not been motivated at all.
  3. Forget the wraps what about the lasers? There is science behind those, has anyone done a series?

    Surgery Tomorrow!

    How are you doing?
  5. You also do not want to cannibalize muscle. Protein on any vlcd should be a minimum of 65 grams with a goal around 80, its pretty well documented too. Do they kniw how little you're getting in?
  6. Thank you for posting your experiences. I am most interested in where people are a great our more post op because that is where normal sets in. I see some people advocating essentially Atkins for life and I can't but think long term heart issues with a meat and cheese diet. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what it seems like to me. It's good to hear from someone who has a rational diet and give live a normal life with the surgery. I think moderation and a balanced diet is the best way to go and something that most of us were not able to accomplish on our own at least and quantities that would maintain a healthy weight. So it's good to hear from you guys and I'm very happy that you have posted here because it gives pre operation people like myself who are still struggling to make that decision more information. I did not want dumping or to live on 500 calories a day that some people seem to suggest to me that's not normal and I want to do this to be normal not to be abnormal
  7. At 38, age is big factor but since you could potentially gain a lot with pregnancy, weight is a factor too. If you have your surgery this year and wait the full two years, you will be 40-41 depending upon the ultimate timeline. OTOH, if your weight is down, you might have better chances at conceiving. Is your gyn pushibg you one way or the other?

    Horror Story

There is a body of evidence that refutes the idea that fat people are fat due to lack of willpower but due to genetics and physiological change s its nearly impossible to lose weight permanently because the body fights it all the c way.

    Horror Story

Lol this thread sure brought out the mentals.
  10. Is this just an issue for new sleevers? I don't want a surgery that makes me vomit or **** uncontrollably whenever I eat a French fry or a shake. I don't believe in low carb for life (carbs in moderation) or no sugar ever. I don't eat fast food and don't plan on starting but the one fast food thing I do like is an in and out burger once in awhile or a cookie. I'm concerned with this thread and the dumping threads. I know if you cut out sugar for a long time out t can nake you sick with a full stomach so I'm wondering if its true dumping ot not bring used to those foods (shock to the system sort of thing)

    Horror Story

Sounds like malpractice and an inability to self advocate. If people do not research and know what can go wrong and demand, not ask, but demand propper care things can go from bad to horrific fast. Sorry to hear about your sister but I would be looking for different docs (assuming this story is real, some of the dates arent matching Imo.
  12. Think of it this way...the slower v you lose, the less skin you have to deal with later O:-)

    Hcg

HCG is a total scam, but some of the points of the diet are good such as limited carbs and low fat proteins. I don't think this will affect your success with the sleeve because you will be continuing a low calorie low carb diet pkan on the sleeve. The diet itself is very similar to the sleeve diet in portions, 3 oz at a time. It does lack in protein. So if you fo it right before and lose a bunch of weight it might slow you down a little at first but not long term.

Can I See Meals/portion Sizes Please?

I am interested in seeing portions for people 1 year or more out. My biggest concern is eating like a toddler for life. I want to resume a normal, not noticeabley bariatric life.

    New and getting sleeved 1/11

Where are you having yours done?
  16. Starvation mode is real, you just don't go into it until you have reached about 5% body fat, which is really, really, thin. Obese people lose fat, that's what our bodies are designed to do--gain fat quickly with an abundance of food and lose it when there is no food. So even if you are on a 500 calorie "starvation" diet, you will not go into starvation mode. Starvation mode being the point at which the metabolism slows down significantly to conserve body fat/mass and lean muscle (including organ) gets cannibalized. I have a good link on this. I can look it up and post it if anyone is interested.
  17. After someone is fully grown and capable of making their own decisions, then to each their own. However, children should not getting it, IMO. Their bodies are still growing and I do not believe anyone who cannot legally give their consent should be taking on such a decision.

    Chewing Question

Is that forever? I am a texture person and that just makes me gag for a lifetime of applesauce (I don't eat applesauce because of the consistency, it makes me feel like puking.)
  19. I could not make this, but I do really want to go to the next one before my insurance goes in.
  20. I thought it was nasty and not factual. If this surgery is done for HEALTH and not VANITY then becoming a healthy individual is the goal, not some arbitrarily chosen weight. People come in all shapes and sizes and a healthy weight for one person might not be for another simply because to maintain it, extreme measures must be taken. The point of the surgery is to create the ability to lose weight quickly to regain health and the ability replace bad habits with good ones--not create new bad habits in the opposite direction. You and many others are eating a normal adult caloric range and are active and fit--the REAL GOAL.

    To Offer Or Not?

I think if you are nice about it, she would like it. She might be happy at her size and might take offense that you thought she would be offended! "I was cleaning out my closet and found a ton of brand new clothes with tags, would you like to come look through them and see if anything works for you or someone you know before I donate them?" Sure sounds a lot better than, "I lost a ton of weight and am no longer a fatty mcfatterson, so none of this fits. I think you would fit it"
  22. I am disturbed. I do not think bariatric surgery is appropriate for children at all. I am also disturbed by low weight people getting the surgery. However, I think the OP's case is a bit different in that this is a revision to previous surgeries. I do have the same fears that this will be sold as an easy way to lose weight for people who are in the 30-35 BMI range who can be perfectly healthy just not perfectly thin.

    Carbonated Beverages Stretch The Sleeve?

I don't believe it would and even so, your stomach before surgery stretches and goes back. I know when I did a liquid diet for almost three months, when I first started eating real food again, I couldn't eat much of anything. I also know when I have been a naughty bad when I can eat a lot and not feel as full. Now take away all the stretchy part after surgery and pretty much I think there isn't much to stretch out. Even if it did, if you have learned to eat right and use your "tool" it shouldn't matter much anyway, right?
