3rd week post op and only lost one lb...
2bslimkim replied to 2bslimkim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the advice. My practicle mind is saying.... DUDE (well Dudette) you just lost 17.5 lbs in less than 4 weeks. The body needs to take a break and catch up..... I'm also very aware that the faster I lose the more loose my skin will be for a while. Slow and steady wins the race.... etc.etc.etc. BUT.... my ego wants to see 20 lbs gone for all the $&!@ I've put my body thru in the last 4 weeks.... PLUS.... for the first time ever, I DIDN'T CHEET dang it. I see my Dr. Friday so If things don't start moving I guess I will have him go back in and take the rest of my stomach.... JUST KIDDING! -

That's what stinks... I haven't had any carbs yet. Neither of my Protein drinks have very many carbs in them. What's going to happen when I do eat a few carbs. YIKES! -

GAINING WEIGHT AFTER 3 1/2 WEEK OUT???
2bslimkim replied to kmill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any chance of that time of the month...? just a thought. Anyway.. don't get discouraged. I had my surgery on Feb. 28 and I've only lost 6.5 lbs my first week and 3 lbs my 2nd week. I read of people "LIKE YOU" who lose 30 lbs and i'm like "what's wrong with me" Keep up the good work.... -
Unrealistic Expectations
2bslimkim replied to ILKrista's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
We can thank "Biggest Loser" for all that.... where people lose 10,15,20 lbs in one week and have their weight lose fast forwarded on National TV. Well, this is reality... I think we have the same surgery date (Feb. 28) anyway, I did tell my employees just because they are all very nosy and interested in my weight since they have watched me gain from 125 to 215 over the last 17 yrs, lose it, gain it, lose it, gain it, lose it, gain it.... etc etc etc. What i've noticed now is all the other woman in the office are all on their own new diets since my surgery date and they want to compare our weight loss every Monday morning (as if its a race of some sort). I lost 7 lbs pre-op, 6.5 the week of surgery but only 3 lbs the second week. They felt sorry for me for only losing such a small amount after having gone thru surgery and all... I'm like WHAT.... i've lost 16.5 in 3 weeks guys. CHILL -
I'm a National Media Buyer at an Advertising Agency so while i'm up and running the halls i have no heavy lifting other than print media such as stacks of magazines etc. I was sleeved on 2/28/11 and went back to work full time exactly one week later. I will be 48 on the 29th and my starting weight was 215. I was 2 weeks exactly post op yesterday and I'm feeling great. No probelm doing lifting like laundry baskets, bending over doing yard work etc. They will restrick your lifting by weight (I think mine was 20 lbs). Here is the kicker and I think it makes a HUGE difference. I'm one of the rare people who have no problem getting the Protein drinks down. I manage at least 60 grams of protein per day and I take..... 6000 IU's of Vitamine D, B-12 sublingual, Prenatal Vitamines, Additional Omega 3, and Calcium. EVERY DAY....... with out fail. I have no problems chewing gummy Vitamins and they have become like a treat to me. As you can read.... everyone is different. I had no choice but to go back to work at one week so I just had myself amped up and ready to go. I really think a lot of it is emotional and Psychological. If you have a healthy home life and not dealing with emotional issues and/or physical issues that may prevent you from working I do think you will be OK to go back by week 2 and maybe even week 1 if you can keep your lifting to a minimal. This may be TMI.... but even my incisions are looking good this week. 3 of them you have to look really hard to even find. Best advice I can give you... Get yourself prepaired for work: preplan you meals... get plenty of rest while you are home (I was going crazy), and most of all GET PLENTY OF PROTEIN AND TAKE YOUR VITAMINS and don't forget to get plenty of fluids. Oh one more thing. During week one you will want to take at least one or two naps per day. By day 6 I was done with napping but I was ready for bed by 9pm. I would be sore in the mornings after first crawling out of bed at 6:30am. This went away as the day went on. By day 10/11 I was bouncing out of bed like my normal self. Now day 15 and I really feel no pain other than itching at the incision sites which is normal healing. I hope this help... It's so ramdom who different every experience is.

Absolutely. In fact I was told to take it the morning of my surgery. While in the hopital my nurse would crush it up in a spoonfull of applesauce for me to eat. When I got home I split my Levoxyl in half the first day but the next day I just swollowed it on down with some Water (not a problem). Best of luck to you.... I'm 15 days out and doing great. I love my gummy Vitamins so stock up on those and don't forget your sublingual B-12. They even make gummy Vitamin D's.....

Need Protein Chart any website you may know of
2bslimkim posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does anyone know of a website that lists food and there of Protein amounts. Tons of site that list calories but since protein is key and I will soon move to mushies it would be nice to be able to account for the amount of protein i'm eating. Thank you! -
OK.... i'm going to do a little tough love. I had my surgery the same day you did and i'm feeling great and having no problems getting the liquid diet i'm supposed to eat down. While this may just be your body getting use to the sleeve it also may be a sign of a minor complication. I think I would call my surgeons office first thing tomorrow. I'm not trying to worry you.... it's just better to be safe than sorry and non of use on this site (well most of us) are qualified to offer medical advice. If you are not getting the appropriate amounts of nutrition your body needs, you may need to seek your Dr.'s advice. Getting appropriate Protein amounts and Vitamins is crucial to your healing process and if you are not getting that down it is going to slow your healing. I'm concerned that you are still having issue and that things are not slowly starting to progress. I'm able to get all my liquids and more in which includes more than 60 grams per day of protein via Protein shakes, I went back to work full time at day 7 and i've even successfully gone out to several restaurants ordering either Tortilla Soup broth or creamed soup and iced tea. Please please if you continue to have issue call your Dr. while it may just be your body it also my be a symptom of a minor issue your Dr. needs to know about.

Please make sure you are taking your Vitamins... I had surgery on Feb. 28. went back to work full time at 7 days and will have my 2 week check up tomorrow. I'm not tired so I feel i must be doing something right or I wouldn't bother writing you.

Here is my day....

I wake up at 6:30 shower do hair & makeup, make Breakfast, pack lunch for kids, drive son to school. I work from 8:30 till 3:00 with a 30 min lunch break then I pick my son up from school and go back to work till 5pm I come home cook dinner and do any chores that are needed like laundry, dishes, homework help etc. I usually go to bed during the 10pm news.

here is my diet.
I start my day with a 30 gram Protein shake (chocolate) over ice... I sit it for over an hour while getting ready and driving.
for lunch I have a 1/2 cup of creamed Soup.
at 4pm I have another Protein Shake but this one only has 27 grams of protein.
I have another 1/2 cup of soup for dinner with my family and around 8pm I have a 1/2 serving of protein shake (about 12 grams of protein)

For vitamins I take..... 2-gummy prenatal multi-vitimins, b-12 sublingual everyday morning, 6000 IU Vitamin D (gummy from Target), I also take a 2-children's gummy that has Omega-3, and Calcium.

I feel great and I really think the key is Protein Protein Protein and vitamins...... If you are unable to drink the shakes hopefully when you are able to have mushies you will be able to get the protein and energy you need. I also drink lots of Water.... I mean i'm always sipping on water.

Great luck to you!

WINE....when and how much
2bslimkim replied to 2bslimkim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome..... my husband will love that i've become a cheep date -
I'm only 10 days out but i'd like to know what experiences some of you have had with occasional wine with meals or socializing. Can it be added successfully? Wine has always been a passion/part of my life. We love to visit wineries and sharing a nice bottle out by the pool. I want to be thin but I don't ever want to be so without my wine. I need to learn how to introduce it back into my life and still be successful with my weight loss. Please share your experiences.... Thanks

Confused about food intake
2bslimkim replied to Felicity2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My one week was Monday. I'm only able to get a few onces of soup down before I fill up. Sometime I have to reheat it several times just to get those few onces down. Don't worry about the amount. you won't be able to eat to much unless you just sit and sip on it all day long. I would say think of eating a meal in 30 minutes. Give yourself 30 minutes to eat your soup, if you are like me you won't be able to consume much. And remember to use small amounds or a baby spoon for a while. With my Protein Shakes (I'm like you), I kind of sit around and sip on them for a while. I start one in the morning while i'm getting ready for work, that same shake goes with me to drop off my son at school (20 min. away) and I still have about a 1/3 of it when I finally show up at my office. So from about 7 am till 9 am I'm sipping on my first Protein Shake. I have about 30 mins worth of soup at lunch (noon), then around 2:30 I make another protein shake that will last me till around 4pm. I have another round of soup about 7pm. and around 9pm I have about 1/3 of a serving of protein shake just to get me thru the night. Wake up and do it all over again.... Hope this helps...... we all do it different depending on life style, family, home, work etc. Just do what feels good and stop when you start to burp. That's when I know i've had enough. Good Luck! -

1 week post op - how are you feeling?
2bslimkim replied to SinDLou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved on Feb. 28th... 9 day post op. Doing great. Back to work full time, getting 60 grams via Protein drinks, enjoying creamed Soups. Started taking all my Vitamins this week which helped. No problems with gas but i was a walker at the Hosp. (right Kelly)... I drink a lot of fluids each day so i've had no BM problems. I also gained 10 lbs in the hosp but lost all plus 6 more first week. all in all, doing great. I think the key however is, you have to get that protein down.. -
8 days post op, lost over 30lbs, still on liquid diet. Story / Questions
2bslimkim replied to warrior68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was on Feb. 28 so i'm 9 days post op and my full liquids includes creamed Soups. I had a wonderful cashew ginger carrot soup-in-a-box today (Pacific brand). I do have to reheat my soup several times to get it down but i'm probably eating about a 1/3 of a serving. I back it up with at least 60 grams of protein via shakes. So I usually have two shakes (30 grams each) and 2 (sleeve sized servings) of a low fat low carb creamy or blended soup. I made cream of chicken (cambells healthy request) soup last night and strained all the chicken bits outs. I also watered it down a little more than the directions stated but I was never one for really thick soups. Tonight i'm going to have potatoe leek soup. I think you could easily have the egg drop soup if you strained the eggs stuff out. I had wonton soup my first week (minus the wonton) and it was fantastic. I'm on "Full" liquids for a total of two weeks (started Monday). I had one week of Clear Liquids (broth only) my first week post op. I will move to mushies beginning week four for 3 weeks. Good luck.... I totally understand what you are going thru. Aslo, gummy Vitamins are a treat gives you something to chew on! -

You guys are great! Thanks -
Way to go.... I was exactly one week ahead of you (Dr. Barnes at Forest Park). Did you go to Forest Park? Excellent place. You will be so surprised how well you feel in a week. I still have some soreness around the left large incision (more tender and swollen) but I went back to work full time yesterday and did very well. Keep walking! take care of yourself!

Never Too Old at 65
2bslimkim replied to judysgreatday's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulation .... I was sleeved on Feb. 28 (two days before you). I'm doing very good also. Other than some tenderness on the left side (where the largest incision is) I feel great. I went back to work yesterday full time and worked all day today then went grocery shopping after work and came home and put up all the groceries and never felt tired. I didn't lose as much my first week as you. I had gained 10 lbs from surgery. I lost all that plus another 5.5 lbs. I had lost 7 lbs the week before on my liquid diet. I'm so happy for you and your Dr. is going to be so proud of your accomplishments. Take Care! -
Keep up the great work and positive attitude..... Happy recovery

Day 6 update (for those who are interested)
2bslimkim posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Howdy Sleevers, I know some of you are have surgery soon and are interested in my day to day so I will keep posted as things change. Yesterday evening My husband was in dire need of "HIM" time. He came home after picking our son up from school and picking up some groceries and said "THIS MOM SHIT SUCKS". A BBQ & BEER intervention was needed so I went with him to our local BBQ joint (sort of our cheers) for about an hour and a half. That was as much as I had the strength for since I was still doing a clear liquid diet. Not much fuel in the tank. This morning I woke up with more stomach pain than I have in the past. More like I'd been a punching bag during the night. I did decide today to start drinking powdered Protein drinks and that has made a huge difference. I haven't needed a nap at all today. Also, I've been able to swallow my thyroid medication without crushing or cutting in half which has surprised me. I was also able to take a gummy multi Vitamin without any problems. The amount of Fluid i'm able to swallow also surprises me. I assumed I'd be sipping and i'm actually able to take normal sized sips. I mentioned earlier that I had gained about 10 lbs while in the hospital. I have lost that amount plus an additional 1 1/2 lb. I'm not having problems doing normal household chores like cooking, light cleaning, laundry, etc. My incisions are starting to itch which means they are starting to heal. I have the glue/tape. I have taken pain medication twice today just for the stomach soreness. It works great. Getting around really pretty good. I'm not able to tell if my stomach is full or empty yet. I takes me over an hour (or more) to drink the 8 oz Protein shake. I never feel full or empty at this time just yet. Probably due to swelling. Let me know if you have any questions... Kim -
Day 6 update (for those who are interested)
2bslimkim replied to 2bslimkim's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm I have no idea how age plays a roll. I will be 48 this month and i'm sure i'm healthier than some 20 yr olds and visa-versa. Honestly, I think a lot of it is frame of mind. Go into it with a positive attitude and tell yourself each day that you are getting better and better. Keep yourself active (within reason) and follow Dr.'s orders. I have an employee that is sick with something every Monday. You name it she has it. She checked herself into the emergency room on Friday just so they could tell her she has allergies and that is why she lost her voice. She drives me nuts and one day she will really have something wrong and nobody will have any sympathy because she is always looking for attention (Bless her heart).... thats a southern thing to keep god on our side when we gossip Anyway.... Be your best patient and you will do great.
