5 Weeks Post Op Questions!
CincyUdy replied to jsi69i's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok so what you're feeling is completely normal. And so your not disappointed when you get your fill this will take multiple fills to get to where you need to be and where you feel your band is a tool. Start measuring your food and eat your meals on a bread plate. That helps me. My doctor told me most women with a 10cc band will be in the range of 6.5cc and 8.5cc at their sweet spot. I reached mine finally after 8 months post op! It is so different when you get here. So be patient and realize this is a marathon not a sprint. Start evaluating what your eating... If you want something sweet or something you know you shouldn't have then google a healthy equivalent! That helps me. Moderation is key to success! Don't deprive yourself just be smart about it. Good luck! Oh and no you should not have much restriction with liquids. -
Way to go! It keeps getting better too! Watch your portion sizes and it's about being satisfied and not hungry for 3-4 hours not about restriction. Good luck and keep it up!

Yep that is the "you ate too much" signal!!! Feels like a sharp runners cramp? That is definitely from eating too much. Watch your portion sizes!

Day 2 Of Liquid Diet- Headaches!!!
CincyUdy replied to Kristin143's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is basically detoxing from caffeine and all the foods you used to eat. Give it a couple more days and you'll be fine. I went through the exact same thing with real bad headaches and being SO tired. Only lasts a few days so wait it out. Good luck! -
Houston, Texas - Lap Band Questions

Yes, I would recommend Dr. Richard Collier: http://www.richardcolliermd.com/ -
Last meals.... I had to do my last meal before my pre op diet so if you get one be sure and enjoy and say goodbye to over eating for the last time lol! This will be a great decision in your life so don't be scared it will be hard and wonderful all at the same time....when you see the scale moving and more importantly the clothes starting to hang on you just motivates you more! I started this journey wearing a 22 last February and now comfortably wearing a 14 and a 12 in some things! Good luck!
-
I from Cincinnati Ohio but moved to Houston last November. I was banded feb 28th last year and I'm so close to the 100 lb mark. Only 7 more lbs to go! Best decision of my life was this band!

Most if not all bariatric surgeons will have a fluoroscope in their office to fill under. It's basically and X-ray and you drink barium as they watch and fill you under e X-ray they can see the barium going through your band. Ask your doctor if they have one!
-
Phany... You need to find a doctor first then attend their free seminar to get all the info and you can ask questions about their program and insurance.
-
I was on medication pre surgery. Like she said above I too had a hernia and that fixed my problem. Day of my surgery I have not had to take any medicine since. Except I had to take some tums one time but that was cause my band was too tight so I had some reflux but it's all good now.
-
There is a possibility you could have had a tiny slip in you band which caused all the tightness and vomiting. So removing 1 cc could have put it back in proper position. 1cc is a lot when you start toggling around your sweet spot. Get filled under the fluoroscope when you go back in in feb. watch your portions till then!

I didn't drink diet coke for about 4-6 months post op but now I enjoy 1 a day at lunch time....sometimes more and sometimes less. Depends on your doctor. Some out there are very conservative and say no carbonation for life after the band, however having one now and then is fine. You have to be realistic and if having a diet coke every now and then is going to keep you sane then go for it. My dietician said if you can pour it over ice and avoid straws. I have little to no intolerances to foods or beverages though so you have to listen to your body ....we are all different! Good luck!

Post Lap Band..can You
CincyUdy replied to Amanda Ehlich Titus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep I eat rice...mmmmm! Lol -
Well today was the day I have been waiting for. I got my first fill this morning and it was such a neat process. I had no idea what to expect and I am sure all doctors are different. I will tell you how my appointment went for those of you waiting for your first fill. First off I was weighed and I was down 3 lbs since the last time I was there 2 weeks ago. Not bad for having ZERO restriction. Also, I have lost 3 inches on my waist so that was also exciting. So from there they took me in to the room where this giant machine was and I had to stand in front of the xray machine and the doc looked at my belly and explained he was going to put the needle in my port and fill the band completely. So he uses freezing spray and puts the needle right in my port as I watched on the screen. I didn't even feel the needle going in thank god! He then has me swallow some barium and I watched as that trickled down my throat and stopped at the band. He then pulls saline out just enough that it trickled through my stoma. That was it. He was able to put in 3cc's today, and said he had left 1cc in my band at surgery. So I have a total of 4 cc's in my band. It was kind of exciting for me being a newbie and not knowing what to expect. So for all of you out there who are nervous about getting your first fill, don't be! It was NO BIG DEAL! I am on liquids today, mushies tomorrow, soft foods the next day and then on to regular food! So the journey finally begins!

Memorial Day Challenge
CincyUdy replied to MollyRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm stuck in Minnesota today so I'll have to weigh in tomorrow! I got a small fill this week so I hope to be down since last Monday I went up, but I truly believe that was water weight only. Hope to be down at least 7 lbs when I weigh in in the morning!! -
Memorial Day Challenge
CincyUdy replied to MollyRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh wow did I have a TERRIBLE week. I checked on Wednesday and I was holding steady at 244 and when I weighed in this morning I was up to 247! UGH!! I feel very bloated today and I think my body is holding water cause I was in the sun Thursday all day and consumed some alcohal this weekend. At least that is what I hope it is. I go foe a fill this week so I hope that will help some. My eliptical machine is calling my name too! lol! Good job for all the losers out there!!! -
Ok, I was banded Feb 28th and I am still trying to get a handle on my eyes bigger than my stomach issue. Lately since my first fill if I eat too much then I get a cramp in my left side. Feels kind of like a cramp you would get from running or something. Anyone else experience this and if so what is it from???

Eating too much- stitch in Side
CincyUdy replied to CincyUdy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
32311- Not sure if you are talking to me or Candice but anyway here is my story... My secret is.... maybe a little deceiving. I had to do a 6 month supervised diet for insurance so I started my journey last October at 286lbs and from there I lost about 10 lbs. So I started my 2 week pre op dier around 275 and lost 11 lbs during that. So technically I have lost 19 since surgery. It was all will power till my first fill where I felt restriction for about a week and a half and then not much. Now after my seconf fill I am noticing I have a hard time eating anyting unless I chew chew chew, which is what you are supposed to do so that is good!!! So glad to hear I am not the only one. I was thinking something was wrong for a little bit so it makes me feel better knowing there are also people out there that get this crampy feeling if they over eat!! -

When did you start to feel better?
CincyUdy replied to Rachel412's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry about the percocet, you take it as long as you need it! I finished all mine and loved every minute of it. It took the edge off and helped me be comfortable and sleep better too. Every day you will feel better. I had a hernia repair too and I had my surgery on Monday and actually went in to work on Thursday. I was miserable so on Friday I worked from home. By Monday I was much better and felt much more normal but it did seem to take a while to feel completely back to myself. Congrats and good luck! Take it easy and every day will be a better day!! -
Too funny! I had the same question! I was banded 2/28 and I asked my nutritionist that question and she said the main reason for no alcohol in the beginning is due to empty calories. Also when people drink they tend to snack. She said a glass of wine occasionally would not kill me but to watch drinking calories. Good thing for me is I only drink vodka an water with lime so it's only 64 calories per oz of vodka. I just wanted to make sure it was not physically harmful to have alcohol, and to answer that question....no! Bottoms up...carefully, lol!

Question from a newbie!
CincyUdy replied to momtotwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you are fine...drink away! Just wait till a couple weeks go by and you start questioning if there is actually a band in you. At least that was how it was for me till I got my first fill a couple weeks ago. Now I am looking forward to fill number two!! But I truly did not feel like my process had started till I got my first fill, so hang in there and it will get better. Healing will take time so let yourself heal before your worry about weightloss!!! -
Nope...my favorite so far is Atkins shakes!
