banded yesterday with hiatal hernia repair...ouch
Nena_TX replied to tammy49's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Hope you are feeling a better everyday. I had the same surgery as you back in Jan 2011 and the gas pains were the worse. I found some relief with the gas x gel strips but not completely. Just know that the gas pains will go away eventually. Walking does help as does taking deep breaths. Good luck in your journey, it's totally worth it! -
I was banded last Friday so I am 7 days post op and I can tell you that all the pain is gone, my incisions don't hurt anymore and I finally feel normal again, except that I am am not hungry The dr put 5cc in my 10cc band when he inplanted my band so I have not been hungry for a week, it feels great! Good luck everyone! Let's get healthy!

PAIN!! Help me!!
Nena_TX replied to Hopes of a Dream!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Friday and believe me when i say i feel your pain!! For me, it has been gas pain and i have tried gas x strips but they didn't really help. I have walked around my apt moving my arms up and down and doing the twist as i walk to try to get the gas out but I think only time brings relief. I took an epson salt bath yesterday and right afterwards felt better but gas pain came back. I got some gas x chewables and after some farting and finally being able to poop (sorry, I know, it's gross, but sooo necessary!) I finally feel better. Does the pain go from your ribs to your back and upper shoulders? That what my gas pains do Also, I was told by the nurse to make sure to do the breathing exercises to get all the anastesia out of my lungs and that should help me feel back to normal and avoid pnuemonia. I hope it passes for you soon, -

Hello everyone...getting banded this FRIDAY!
Nena_TX replied to SuzanneCollins's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I got banded on Friday and have lost 5 pounds already. I am so excited about this journey and wish you all the best! I was thinking I had made a mistake after surgery and felt depressed and so sore, but just seeing the numbers on my scale go down make me smile and proud I am doing this for myself! Let's get healthy in 2011, we deserve it!! -
I agree w Hummingbird, the $9900 hit I am gng to be feeling for a while but it will be worth it if i get to a healthy weight. I was banded on 1/14/11 and the worst complication was the terrible gas pains in my back and the need to burp but can't. Gas x strips help a bit but it is still bad. This is my 4th post op day and I am glad my insicions hurt very little and I finally feel like it is going to be ok. I'm going back to work tomorrow, i teach Pre-K, wish me luck!

Pre op newbie and all alone

HI Kelly, I was banded on Friday and my port is not visible at all. I can barely finish a cup of broth or a cup of hot tea so in my case the band is supressing hunger very well. I drank a Protein shake yesterday and it took like 30 mins to drink 6 oz and I was't hungry for hours. I actually haven't been hungry at all but I make myself eat and drink Water bc I don't want to get dehydrated. Good luck!! -
I was really nervous, even vomited right before banding but everything went well. I had to have a hatial hernia fixed during the banding and now I am experiencing acid reflux for the 1st time in my life...is this normal? The gas pains in my upper back/shoulders is awful but I am trying to stay positive. I weighed 203lbs at banding and have lost 2.5 lbs in the last 3 days. I am hoping to reach my goal weight of 135 by summer, hope thats realistic

Banded on 1/14 in Houston, TX
Nena_TX replied to Nena_TX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Suzanna, I have a the usual 2 inch cut in the middle of my abdomen and 4 smaller (like 2 cm) incisions around that. They are already healing and I am hoping the clamp marks under my breast will go away soon too, they feel like burns. I wasn't told about the marks left by the clamps until I asked the nurse on the phone this morning, she told me they would go away on their own but they do itch since the marks are right under my breasts and it gets warm under there. I haven't worn a bra since Friday when I got banded but I will have to tomorrow when I go back to work and I hope I don't irritate the marks anymore. I didn't know about the hernia until they cut me open and said I could've swallowed a whole meatball with the size my stomach opening was. No, the incisions are the same as the doctor explained they would be, I was just told I may have gas pains longer since they had to repair the hernia. My friend had the surgery 3 years ago and her incisions are hardly visible. She used maderma on them and it make them fade really nicely. Good luck on your surgery, keep in touch! -

Hi, Thanks for the encouragement and congrats on a great start to your journey as well. I talked to the nurse this morning and she said I am probably getting the acid reflux from laying down after eating. I have been doing better today, and am happy I am able to breathe easier due to using the spirometer. I even had some cream of mushroom Soup today diluted w chicken broth, it was delicious! Can't wait until week 3 when I can have mushy foods again.Alos, I weighed myself and have lost 3 lbs since Friday -
Congrats on losing 10 lbs! I was banded on friday 1/14 and I was told the first few weeks are for healing so not to worry if I don't lose alot of weight. I am suppose to go back to see the DR in 4 weeks to get a fill so then I will have more restriction. Good luck on your journey

Thanks! I went thru TrueResults and it has been a good experience. I paid for my surgery out of pocket since my BMI is at the low end of the obesity range and I had no morbid conditions. It was $9900 and I am gng to make sure I did not just give the $ away so I am gng to try really hard to be successful w the band. I have a friend that got banded 3 years ago and she went from a size 20 to a size 2, so I am hopeful since I have seen the resluts of sticking to the rules. I hope you get your surgery scheduled, lets keep in touch and support each other, I know I need all the help I can get. Christine -
4 weeks post op today and so happy about progress!
Nena_TX replied to amber2604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's wonderful!!! Keep up the great effort!! I was just banded on Friday 1/14 and hope I can say the same as you in a few weeks! -
Hi, I hope its getting easier for you. That's great that you are hitting the track, and 30 laps in 60 mins is awesome!!I was just banded, literally 3 days ago on Friday 1/14. It's hard to deal with the incisions and the gas pain is horendous. I would say you have goten thru the worse if you are already being so active. For protein I am looking forward to eggs, tuna, chicken salad and lots of smoothies. I am still on the liquid diet and its pretty challenging to watch others eat the food I love and I am not allowed to eat right now for fear I could choke and die!! No pain no gain right?? We r going to look great soon though, keep up the good work!!

I was banded friday 1/14 and i agree, the gas pains are the worst!! I am trying to walk and take gas x strips but still no relief, dr says it may take a week or 2 to go away. Is yours gone yet?? Good luck on your recovery!!
-
I got banded Friday 1/14 too, how r u feeling? Hope u r well
-
Hi, I was banded Friday 1/14 and am doing ok. I have intense gas pains in my upper back and shoulders, my dr reccomended gas x strips but I am not sure they r helping, it still hurts alot. I am not hungry though, just sticking to chicken broth and flavored Water, today I got to add Protein shakes and I snuck a cream of chicken Soup diluted w ck broth and strained. I had some apple sauce too and it's been ok. make sure to get some chloroseptic spray for your throat, the tube they put down your throat for the anestisia may leave it sore. Good luck!! Your gng to love it once the weight actually starts coming off. My friend had lap band 3 years ago this month and went from a size 20 to a size 4, she actually had some Fluid taken out bc she was too skinny!!
