    port pain

Update: The doc said everything was progressing just fine! The pain I am having is normal and should ease up over the next few weeks. Last night I used a heating pad on low and that seemed to help quite a bit. I weighed in 20 lbs down from my preop appt in mid Feb! I lost 4 lbs before my preop diet, 6lbs during the preop diet and 10 lbs since surgery 1 week ago. I also was approved to move on to soft foods. I'm thinking some refried beans thinned with a little salsa sounds good! Thanks to everyone for the advice and kind words, It is greatly appreciated!
  4. I will be 1 week post op tomorrow (March 29th). Everything is going great with the exception of my port pain! It is sore during the day and very tolerable but at night when I go to bed I toss and turn and can not get comfortable. Whether on my back or left side (Port side ha ha!) it feels like it is pulling and just throbs. I can't even think of laying on my right side, way too painful. The last two nights I have had to get up after a few hours and sleep in a chair. I see the doc tomorrow for my follow up but I thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone has had the same experience. TIA!

    Surgery 3/30/11 So nervous!

No, I noticed no difference in swallowing at all. Some folks have a slightly sore or scratchy throat from being intubated but I didn't. No problem at all.

    Surgery 3/30/11 So nervous!

I had surgery on Wed March 23rd. The only issue I had was with my blood pressure ( sky high!) which was weird because I don't have hypertension. I did have the shoulder pain and it was worse than I expected BUT I took Gas X strips and by the morning it was gone! I also walked quite a bit and I think the combo of the two did the trick. I took the Lortab every 4-5 hours post op day 0 and 1. Today I have only had it once. I was scared the day of surgery and looking back it wasn't that bad at all! Good luck to you and let us know how it goes! PS Take a pillow with you for the car ride home. It helps to hold it against your tummy .

    March 24th Date?

My surgery is tomorrow as well! Good luck to everyone! I was approved just after Christmas and could have had my surgery in Feb but I had to wait for my work schedule to shake out...

    Exercise and weight loss

Thank you everyone for your input! I really appreciate all of your opinions. I think I will start with a Zumba class or go back to Jazzercise and go from there. I do enjoy using the weight machines at the gym and I could see myself doing that several times a week. I will give it my best effort and hopefully once I get some weight off I will be more motivated to become a gym regular!

    Exercise and weight loss

Just wondering if any of you have lost a significant amount of weight with walking. I don't like going to the gym with the exception of weight lifting on the machines. I can walk 2-3 miles a day and I enjoy doing exercise tapes. I just don't see myself being a "gym rat".

    Kitchen appliances

Thanks for the tip on the Hamilton Beach blender! I HATE dragging out my big blender so this is perfect! I can bring it to work as well ( I work 12+ hrs a day). I purchased it @ Walmart.com. It comes with 2 blender cups and lids for $20 ! Just terrific...Thanks a lot!

    Kitchen appliances

Thanks for the input! I was thinking of getting a Bullet but when I came across all of these appliances I started to wonder. I do have a Xmas gift card to Kohl's. Maybe I will use it on that.

    Kitchen appliances

I really got motivated today and cleaned out my cabinets! Out with all of the remaining junk food and carb loaded food. It left me wondering what will I need appliance wise for the puree/mushy phase. In my cleaning, I found a blender, a stick blender, a Bravetti chopper and a food processor! I can't imagine I need anything else. Any suggestions/thoughts would be greatly appreciated! I am new to this site. My surgery is March 23rd ( if I don't back out!)
