  1. Im looking into having my surgery done with Dr. Kieth Kim of the Florida Hospital -- anyone else? Can you tell me your experiences with the surgery in general?
  2. Why does the band errode or leak? It seems like everyones band does this -- is there anyway to make sure that the band is always ok???? What are some percautionaries to help these problems?
  3. I am a lapband hopeful (marchhhhhh1!!!) and I was going through a lot of the threads here -- trying to see what are the restrictions - but im getting pulled back and forth. Are there any foods we ARNT supposed to eat? Ive read on several sites that bread, rice and popcorn are no nos as well as soda. But here Ive read that you guys do eat this stuff. Can I get a list of all the food no-no's and possibly the consequences of eating the items. THANKS! that would be so great.

    Second Step

I canceled my appt. with my primary doctor because of www.lapband.com I found this website and did a search of doctors in my area -- I came up with Dr.Kieth Kim of the Florida Hospital is Celebration City Florida. I called up the center and spoke with a lovely woman who told me they had these little seminars at the hospital explaining the procedure and that I didnt have to see my primary at all ( http://www.floridabariatric.com/ ) At the conclusion of the doctor’s talk, they will go over the paperwork to get you started with their program and also will discuss fees and insurance coverage of the surgery. So they are very helpful! I am sooo excited. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

    Fills.....????

I have this perception of a fill -- please tell me if i am right or wrong: The doctor keeps putting in more and more saline into the ring - to tighten the stomach -- and after a few months of the stomach getting stretched out -- they do another fill -- isnt this just like gastric bypass -- by making a smaller stomach only to keep stretching it out? I was very excited about the procedure until I started to read about the fills..I dont want to mess my insides up by stretching it. The saline doesnt go anywhere right ---- so after every fill -- you end up with a gigantic balloon around your tummy..no? Someone set me straight! Lol...

Hey tammy --- I am a hopeful aswell.. good luck to you ! Maybe call around and see if there are any conferences going on -- Im going to a Lap Band conference next tuesday -- for people with and without insurance it is helpful - because most insurance comapnys wont pay for a culsultation -- and with this the doctor can do it for free!

do I HAVE to go to my primary? I would like to save the embarrassment and 25 dollar copay! :peace: However the cigna operator said nothing of meeting 40bmi requirements...just that they covered it. I am VERY close to 40 though.

    First Step

Hey! My name is Liz. I'm 20 yrs old. Currently about 255lbs, 5'7''. I have been researching the lap-band specifically for about 4-5 months now. I took my first step 2 weeks ago by calling my insurance company (Cigna) and seeing if they covered the procedure (even if they didnt I was going to self-pay). But the great news is -- THEY DO! I do have to pay a 500 dollar deductable -- and 20% of the procedure -- UP TO 2000 dollars - so the most I will pay is 2k. which isnt terrible at all! So upon hearing the great news I called my doctor and made an appt for the 8th of January -- comming up! The receptionist for Cigna told me I would have to go to him so that he could reffer me to a doctor who would perform the lapband procedure. So I am very nervous and anxious. I have of course many questions..I was hoping to share my journey and experiences here with everyone Here are a few questions I have: 1.) I do meet the requirements for surgery - however -- I am afraid my dr. wont approve me -- has anyone had to go to a regular doctor first? Will he try to make me lose weight on my own? (I have tried everything - im sure his plan wouldnt work either) 2.) After meeting with your lap-band doctor -- how long does it take to get a date for surgery? -- I am hoping to have the surgery done by late march -- because this is when we are moving into a new apt, rent is prorated half -- and taxes should have come back by then.. 3.) pay options : I have semi-okay credit -- what are the guidelines for pay-back options with this surgery... 4.) How long did you stay in the hospital for? 5.) For the women who have had c-sections with having babies -- is the surgery pain much like that ( I have had a baby through c-section).? thanks so much!

Oh wow yea the same guidelines apply here in Florida for Cigna. So about 2 months you had to wait. Are you on any type of no food / shake diet? Did your dr. want you to lose a few pounds on your own?
