  1. Hello Everyone, I just wanted to share my story and why I have decided this is the best option for me. I'm 28 years old and I never thought I would be this weight at my age. I was never overweight growing up until about 4-5 years ago, that I started gaining significant amount of weight and wasn't able to put if off no matter what I did, I think just let myself go, feeling really depressed about how I looked in pictures and how I just looked in general. There has been a number of factors that add up as to why I'm overweight and after trying many things like the gym, the weight-watchers diet and other things it wasn't really working for me and food just became something comforting. I have family and people I know that have done this surgery and have lost significant amount of weight and have been able to keep it off for the most part, so I started doing research about it and I found that in the city I live, Toronto. The lap-band cost is 16,000 dollars, it was not something realistic for me because I would have to go significantly in debt to do the lap-band and put aside many career and personal plans I had. That's when I found more information about the surgeries in Mexico and after doing a lot of research about Mexico and Lap-band surgeries ( I will be honest I was hesitant about doing a surgery in Mexico but the price was more a realistic for me than in Canada) I feel quite comfortable in going and doing it here after all the amount of research I did. I will be doing in Tijuana, Mexico at Hospital Angeles with Dr Corvala. Has anyone done it there?? If so can anyone share their experiences. I'm really excitedI know it's a life changing experience and that it's going to change my completely eating habits so I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm 5 5" and currently 185 pounds . My BMI is just over 30 and when I started reading some of the forums comments I noticed that there are different criteria with the lap-band. In Mexico a minimum of 30 is approved for surgery and in the US and Canada is around 35-40. I was advised by the Dr. that I must keep my BMI over 30 in order for them to do the surgery, basically keep the weight. I would like to get in touch with people who have had a BMI around the 30 mark and share their experiences. Any advise, comment it's appreciated. Thanks
