What is a normal weight loss 5 weeks after surgery
elleelle replied to Nancy Ann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 2/10/11 and have only lost 12lbs and I was expecting more when I weighed in on 3/5/11. But my clothes fit better and I feel better and I'm determined if it's just going to be chugging along then so be it. I need time to recondition my relationship with food and for me more importantly I hope to build muscle to combat the sagging skin. -
I feel your pain or should say I felt your pain. Coming off of my beloved full caffeine coffee was awful, headaches, fatigue, I couldn't hold my head up in the afternoon. I do take my vitamins and drink coffee but only half caffeine. I seem to be doing fine now. I know that first 2 weeks I was more fatigued which I attributed to the surgery. I try to drink more herbal tea with milk and splenda and don't want to go back to my caffeine intake pre banding. The withdrawals I experienced coming off the caffeine was alarming to me. I know drink less than 1/2 of what I used to and all is good.

Banded yesterday - gas pain after sipping water
elleelle replied to julesmck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gas was so bad that my shoulder had this excruciating pain, I quit drinking from a straw when helped enormously. -
Hello All, I was banded 2/10/10 and had lost 12lbs after 3 weeks. I was disappointed bc I had been eating so few calories. Glad I got on here to here this may just be OK. I should have gone another week of mushies but just couldn't take it so I'm not eating regular food but chewing to mush. Unfortunately, I've been hanging with friends and partaking in cocktails which I know are NOT good . I have heard that alcohol slows the process. Is that correct?

No drinking through a straw?
elleelle replied to NewBandit95's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the worse pain in my shoulder, I guess it was gas pushing on my shoulder blade. Even though my instructions I received from my doctor said nothing about a straw the support group i attended suggested not using it and lo and behold the pain went away. My doctor claimed there are mixed reviews on whether or not to use a straw, I would say just to listen to your body, trial and error which is what we do with most things now that we're banded. I still use a straw but every now and then. I was using it for everything I was drinking. -
Memorial Day Challenge
elleelle replied to MollyRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am IN! Thanks for starting this Molly, I'm actually excited. I was banded 2/10 and have lost about 12 lbs, a bit bummed as I've been really following instructions until this week. I'm in the last week of the mushy food but I went out with friends and spent a day drinking tequila sunrises and a few chips and bean dip. Then the last couple of days my work brought in chicken nuggets, fajitas, guacamole & chips and I have partaken but in small amounts also out with co-workers at night throwing back a few glasses of red wine. Is it true that alcohol slows the process of weightloss? I guess I'm bummed because I haven't eaten the mass quantity of bad foods I normally would, in fact they've been in very small portions. I guess with what i've eaten since banded I expected more of a weight loss even though my choices over this past week were NOT on plan. Am I just being ignorant? Anyway, I'm glad for this because I'm putting my guilt aside and going back to my Protein shakes and to the instructions provided by my doctor. I'm looking forward to this spreadsheet being a great weight loss tool for me. -
Are slider foods high calories soft or liquid foods that slide on through the band?

I accidentally stumbled over a protein drink on a website called Chike. It's really good and for a very small investment, I think it was 6.95 which pays for the shipping, you get 5 samples of product. I've order 3 tubs of it, Vanilla, chocolate and banana and the protein count is 28. Very tasty, no aftertaste that i've experienced with others.

thanks for sharing Maggs, I was banded 2/10 and my weigh in is tomorrow. Even though I've been true blue on my diet (except for the 2 pcs of dark choc I ate today) I don't feel I've lost weight, could be due to the gas that still continues to plague me. Hope the scales say something different.

Feeling quite good today. Day 6 of my new life.
elleelle commented on justplaintired's blog entry in justplaintired's Blog
I too am on day 6 and it's good to hear there are others out there that had regrets... the first 3 days I was thinking maybe I should have tried WW one more time especially with all these commercials but today, I'm pumped and so glad I made this decision. I'm doing well as I'm now in the soft food stage, loving my protein drinks thanks to Chike and looking forward to a new life, so far doing everything I've been instructed to do and just hope I continue to do so. -
I'm in day 6 post op and still have gas pain that effects my left shoulder blade, not sure if it's just the gas bumping up to a place that's always sore from working on a computer or not. When I breath deeply i can still feel discomfort through out my chest but it's so much better and I do walk everyday.

February 2011 Bandsters?
elleelle replied to justplaintired's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is 2/10, started my pre-op diet today and was almost overcome with cheating, thankfully I got on this website and the obsession had died down, this is going to be a tough journey so I know now I'll be visiting this site often to get through it. I'm looking forward to a new life. -
Um...Yeah I'll Have The Protein Shake, Please
elleelle commented on IdaM's blog entry in I'm With The Band
Thanks for sharing, sounded like I had written it. I was scheduled to be banded on 1/28/11 but was told today the hospital they had scheduled is not in network so hopefully it will be 2/4/11 unless I have to go through the approval process again (ugh!) I still have so many mixed feelings still. I'm going to miss food, hate to say it but I love it too! I'm just hoping that I'm going to like the physical side so well that my mental attitude will be adjusted as well. I'm freaking out on getting enough protein, not sure what shakes taste the best but I'm researching. This site has been great because there are so many success stories and I am appreciative. Sounds like you're doing well and very focused... it's just food..... best to you -
Surgery Day and the 2 days following!
elleelle commented on EdmontonGal's blog entry in Jen's Jabbers
My date is Jan 28, just around the corner, my fear is getting protein in so I was glad to stumble across your blog, so what are you putting the skim milks powder in? I hadn't thought of the choc soy milk. Any other helpful suggestions?
