    4 weeks post op

Being on solids is a blessing and a curse! I'm only 10 days post op, yet my doc let me have real food starting week 2, but only 3 meals of 2 oz each. What a tease! Tastes wonderful, but could have easily eaten more. But now I see the logic...it is giving me a training period of taking small bites, putting my fork down between bites, chewing a million times before swallowing, etc! Last night, my boyfriend and I shared a piece of salmon and a baked potato. I had a little less than 2 oz salmon, and about an ounce of baked potato (skin off). It took me as long to eat mine as it did for him to eat his! And because I am already getting used to still getting most of my Protein from liquid, I'm already adapting to these little tastes. Next week, I get 3 oz., etc. Regarding food choices, I recommend always going for stuff high in protein. It is so nice to eat protein, instead of drinking it (my doc says I'll be on 60-80 grams protein a day for life). I haven't done it yet, but if I eat something like Cream of Wheat (healthy but not much protein), I will mix in a scoop of unflavored protein. I have aleady made up puddings and slushies using skim milk, unsweetened koolaid/unsweetened pudding mix, and Protein powder. Great high protein, ready-to-eat Snacks. For real food protein, I do eggs/egg beaters, cheese, tuna (or any other fish), Beans (lentle Soup is the highest in protein). I also use Cant Believe it's Not Butter spray instead of butter. Even used it when I baked a quiche. By the way, the quiche is delicious, and a 4-inch square is only 142 calories and 18 grams protein (I eat half a piece at a time right now). It freezes well, too. I posted it in this website under "Legal" Company Quiche. My boyfriend made me bean soup using three kinds of beans, plus ground turkey and ground lean beef. Delicious! But eating 2 oz. of that was the hardest! Can hardly wait til I can eat 4 oz! Super good luck to you! Keep up the good work!

Fit into a new size today

So cool! Can hardly wait til I'm there! Continued good luck!
  4. Wow. You have only been banded 2 months and they don't want you to drink ANY protein? Did they say why? My doc says that I will probably include a Liquid Protein supplement (at least 20 grams protein) the rest of my life! And that everyone, even people thin or not banded, should aim for 60-80 grams protein per day for life! So weird, the different philosophies! How does Bariatric Advantage taste? What does it cost? I've seen it on line, but bought unjury instead.
  5. when I lose like you, I'm going to switch my ticker tape to 4th of July explosions, too! Super congrats on your weight loss!
  6. Wow! What an ordeal! But look how good you are doing now! Congrats! But your doc still sounds like a meanie, and I would change if I were you, even if he wasn't leaving town! Continued success!
  7. Interesting. Thanks. You're right. There are so many approaches. I'm going to a support meeting tomorrow night through my doctor's office. I'll ask if there have been any studies showing which "protocal" regarding eating graduations work best. Looks like you are doing great. Keep up the good work!
  8. How much cream of wheat, and how much talapia did you consume? My dr. is keeping me to 2 oz. per meal this week, 3 oz next week, and finally, a half cup the following week. I was fine on the Protein Drink period, but now that I am adding in real food, I have to use good ol' fashioned will power to not eat more than 2 oz.
  9. Maybe try adding more skim milk to the chocolate Protein Drink. It "mellows" out the chocolate, and the milk adds protein, too. Good luck to you!
  10. OMG! Are you sure you got the instructions right regarding the clear liquids "doctor's orders"? My clear liquids diet for the week after surgery included Protein shakes, and skim milk to mix the Protein powder. With that, I've made yummy slushies with milk, vanilla protein and a half tsp sugar free Koolaid. And coffee mocha slushies with milk, chocolate protein powder and coffee. Maybe call your doc and double check? Super good luck!

    Good Breakfast Ideas?

    good point! thanks!
  12. I had eight incisions! Four for the lap band, and 4 cause they removed 4 skin tags while they were at it! hahaha! Cool! Post what the doc says about why he uses 5 incisions. Just curious.
  13. Oh yeah!...deep breathing was a challenge at first. That should improve soon. I had an unknown hiatal hernia repaired, too! Cool! A two-fer! The feeling of bloatiness went away after a few days, but sipping protein and liquids all day kept me feeling full. Super congrats on the walking already! Keep up the good work!

    Good Breakfast Ideas?

Legal "company" quiche (skinnied down Chili cheese Puff): 2 1/2 C egg beaters 1/2 C flour 16 oz. fat free cottage cheese 1/2 C Can't Believe It's Not Butter (liquid) 8 oz reduced fat grated cheese 8 oz fat free grated cheese 7 oz died gree chilis 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salf Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pam a 9x11 pan. Mix all ingredients together except the chilis. Once all mixed, add the chilis and blend. Pour into the pan. Bake for 45 min, or until golden brown. Cut into 12 pieces (healthy sized portions!), each piece equals 142 calories per piece, and 18 grams protein! Company loves it as much as when I make it with "real" cheeses, etc. I freeze the pieces in individual baggies, and defrost one the night before as I want one. Good for you poor folks still working!

    Good Breakfast Ideas?

thanks! Can hardly wait to try them!
  16. Wow! 10 lbs in one week! Congrats! What are you doing?! I'm one week post surgery and have gone by the book on liquid Protein only. Have lost 5. Re the burping, I do it too, but doesn't seem as often as you. Maybe you're drinking a little too fast? Not that that is a criticism...whatever you are doing is working very well! We still have lots of gas in us, so any way you can get rid of it is good! Again, congrats! Keep up the good work!
  17. I have found that the Premier chocolate protein shake at costco is the best. Tastes like chocolate pudding. It's 11 oz and 30 grams protein! I've made up some yummy "dreamcycles" with non-fat milk (1 1/2 C), 2 scoops of vanilla protein powder (20 grams protein per scoop), and 1/2 tsp unsweetened Koolaid. Mix it all together and put in three 1/2-cup containers and freeze. They end up being 18 grams protein each. Take it out of the freezer about 1/2 hour before eating, to let it get a little slushy. I've also made yummy pudding!... 1 package sugar free instant pudding, 4 scoops unflavored protein powder (20 grams each), and 2 cups non fat milk (9 0z protein each cup!). Makes five 1/2 C-servings-- 20 grams protein each! I put those in the fridge and let set overnight, but the directions say it can be ready in 5 minutes! How long is the dr. having you stay on a liquid diet? I'm going to my dr today for my 1-week check up. I'm super hoping I get to change to the puree phase! Good luck to you!
  18. You poor thing. I hope your appointment today helped with a lot of your questions, and I hope you left there feeling more hopeful and positive. I have my first post-op appt tomorrow! I haven't been hungry, but I have kept track of all the liquid and Protein I drank, and am staying at 6-8 glasses of liquid and 60-80 grams protein every day. Maybe you aren't "eating" enough? Anyway, super good luck to you!

    Day 4 after surgery HELP

I'd take the pain meds every four hours, and lay down with a heating pad to the sore areas when you can. Yes, it is "only" laproscopic surgery, but they still cut and stitch and move your organs around and blow you up with gas! And let us not forget the effects of the anethesia! And if you had hiatal hernia repair as well, that is additional prodding and stitching! I understand gas x doesn't work for our kind of gas, cause it is supposed to help intestinal gas...we have outside-the-organs gas! Yes, no BMs for 4 or 5 days is normal. I am back to normal after I went off the vicodin (which contributes to constipation). But first things first. I wouldn't go off your percocet until your pain is sufficiently less. Yeah for more fluids!! I am sipping something all day long. I have a chart my sister made up for me to enter all the liquid and Protein I am drinking all day long, with a place for running totals. Amazing when you see it in writing. Maybe that will help you, if you keep a daily log of intake. Super good luck!
