  1. Hi, Weesie! Thank you for your b'day wishes. Early happy birthday to you, too! How are you doing? From the comment on your page from MelissaNY, it sounds like you had band slippage (sp?!) in common?? If so, how are you?? How is your summer goiing? I'm going to do some traveling this summer to SCalifornia, Boston, and Canada--all cooler places! Hope to hear from you, and hope all is well.

    X rated question

amazing weight loss in a year! What an inspiration! I can hardly wait!
  3. OMG!!! You lost over 100 lbs in 6 months??! Amazing!! And you are almost at goal without even one fill! You guys are such an inspiration!! Super congrats!!
  4. First of all, super congrats on your weight loss! But how did you do it without one fill? Did they fill it a little during the initial surgery?
  5. I'm a calorie counter from way back, too. So it was hard to for me, too, to ignore. But after a month of soft foods, I tallied up the calories per day and was only taking in 500/cal day! But starting month two, I could increase my portions, and add fruits, veggies, and more semi solids. So now it is up to about 800/cal day. My dr. said that in month two, the "ballpark" number of calories is 800-1000. So as long as you are following your doctor's plan, it seems to work out the way it's supposed to--they've been at this lap band thing way longer than we have! Good luck to you!

    Im calling it today 100/onderland

Super super congrats!!! Here's to feeling good the rest of your life!!
  8. Your success is totally fantastic! Congrats! During the first month, I also was low calories....400-500 day! Despite my PA saying it's OK to stay there if I am feeling OK, I was starting to feel light headed and low energy. And I stayed the same weight for 3 days! Then I read on line the negative effects of staying on this low count for a long period of time. So a few days ago I uped my calorie intake to 700. The next day, I lost 2 1/2 lbs! It was probably coincidence, but I took it as a sign I was doing the right thing, cause I also felt better. My PA said that the guidelines say that in month two, 800-1000 calories/day was a good goal. I can't imagine at this point doing 1000/calories a day and still lose weight! Plus, I don't think I could now eat that much! I am going for 700-800, but I've only been at it 3days and I am staying at around 700. Because I now get to add in fruits and veggies, I can probably add 100 calories pretty yummily! Hope that helps. Continued good luck! Glad it is going easy for you! Me, too! Greatest decision of my life!

Weird pain and question about fill

Your pain is probably the port, but I would check with your dr. to make sure. Are you sure you got any fill? I know some drs do the first fill in surgery, so maybe for you, it just wasn't enough. I don't have a fill yet. I'm at 5 weeks. Get my fill at 8 weeks. But I am following the guidelines of 3-4 oz. of food at each "meal" and 80 grams protein/64 oz Water in between. It is getting me used to taking tiny bites, putting my fork down between bites, and chew chew chew! And even though I don't have a fill yet, I feel satisified, never hungry! So until your next fill, maybe pace yourself and see if that helps. Good luck!

    Im calling it today 100/onderland

SUPER congratulations!!! And you know that this time, it is going to stay off. For the first time in your whole life! I'm 11-12 lbs from Onederland (what a great word--I learned it here!). Can hardly wait to join your club! Keep up the good work! And thanks for the encouragement to us relative newbies.

    calorie intake post surgery

I had my one-month check up today, so I asked my PA that exact question. Keeping in mind, all of our doctors and PAs have thoughts on the subject, this is just one of them: My PA said that doing 500-600 during the first month is fine. In month 2, she said the normal suggested intake is 800=1200 calories. I told her I just couldn't imagine eating that much now and still lose weight. She said 600-800 calories a day is categorized as "under dr. supervision," which I am. So if I am comfortable eating that amount even into month 2, it's OK to do so, as long as I'm not feeling hungry, or faint. She said that when you eat less calories, your metabolism does slow down. But as you eat more over time, your body adjusts, and your metabolism increases. That it all averages out in the end, so don't worry about it. She said my primary concern is to get down the 64 oz of fluids a day, and the 80 grams of protein a day. I'm still trying to get my head around it. I have been on so many diets, and have always been told that your body can go into the starvation mode and your metabolism will be screwed up forever, if you don't eat enough calories. I sure would like to see what other's dr's/PAs are saying.

    calorie intake post surgery

I've been tracking my daily liquid and Protein intake, and am losing fine, and feeling great. But then my daughter asked me how many calories a day I am taking in, and in reviewing my logs, I am only taking in under 600 calories a day! Is that going to mess up my metabolism? I'm only 3 weeks post surgery-- will it all work out with increased portions over time? (I'm presently at 3-4 oz. meals, with Liquid Protein in between).

    calorie intake post surgery

Well, this is 2 days since you posted this. Hopefully you are feeling much better now. I too love this website. It has been a life-saver! Best of luck to you!
  14. Practically since the day of surgery 3 weeks ago, my blood pressure has dropped from 130's and 140,s over 70s or 80, to just above or below 100 for the top number and 50s or low 60s for the bottom number. I am taking 4 blood pressure meds, so the nurse said to delete the water pill til I see the doctor (on June 17). But my blood pressure is staying as low, and in the last two days, I have GAINED THREE POUNDS! I assume I am retaining water, so went back on the water pill today (without consulting the dr office cause it's Saturday)! And I started weaning off one of my other three bp meds. Has anyone else had this problem?

    low blood pressure since surgery

Hi, Weesie! Love your sense of humor! My PA has a theory as to why mine dropped so quickly after the surgery, and it is similar to your thoughts-- she said that not only have I lost weight, but I went from doing fast food/carbs/salt/etc/etc! to practically straight protein! You could teach the class! :-) So how are you doing? Any more feeling-icky days? Hope all is well your way. Try to stay out of the heat! That's what I'm doing. Supposed to be 104 here tomorrow! Yuck! I have an appt at 9 a.m., then I'm in for the duration! Take care and hope all is going well for you!

    calorie intake post surgery

So your dr. stressed the importance of staying between 800 and 1000 a day for just the liquid stage (which was one week for me)? What stage are you in now, and what is your dr's guideline for each stage? Does your dr. cite metabolism issues for the calorie goals? Thanks for any further info you can give me. I go for my one-month check up this Thurs., so would like to go with as much background as possible.

    How to Reduce Post-Banding Flatulence?

Wow! Never heard that! I'll try it! Thanks! My PA says, also, that the flatulence is from all the Protein.

It's mental and emotional abuse, and a self-serving power play. Absolutely no love or caring involved.

    Husband hurt my feelings....

Wow! My EX-husband said stuff like that one too many times. I've been happily divorced now for 27 years! I have had several boyfriends in those 27 years, and am presently with a guy for 5 years now. We live in separate houses, but are together a lot. Super mutual respect. He would NEVER think to say a mean thing like that...just not in his make-up. I think mean-spiritness doesn't go away by sleeping on the couch. Good luck, Sweetie. You deserve better. Continued success on your journey.
