Water, Water, Go Away!
purple tulip replied to gotamakeachange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Leah, When were you sleeved and has this been going on the whole time for you? I'm just curious because my Dr. swore he had never seen this happen with anyone else. -

No problem I hope you get this figured out. It's definitely a huge relief when that portion of weight is under control. -
Water, Water, Go Away!

Yes, it's a Water pill. Some of the over the counter ones have caffeine and other things in them, so I'm not sure if that would be the way to go. And I'm not sure if the diuretic the Dr. prescribed me is any different, but I know it was a low dose. At any rate, it has definitely helped! -
How do you manage to cook for family right after?
purple tulip replied to Rainydayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to admit that I had a lot of help. My husband took a week off of work and then my mo-in-law flew in to help also. I have 3 little ones under 6, so this was a huge help! However, some of the things that were helpful since were buying lots of fruits and veggies at the beginning of the week and had them all cut up in storage containers in the fridge for easy grab and go healthy Snacks or sides. Buying lots of easy grab and go healthy snacks...string cheese, yogurt, lunch meat, gold fish, etc...Those things usually got them through morning and afternoon. You said that you don't want to freeze things and are looking for inexpensive, but you can still have "leftover" type things...a big rice dish, or a big noodle dish that they can eat on for a couple of days will cut your time down in the kitchen. After 3-5 weeks or so you should be ok to cook normal healthy things for your family and you should be able to pick out some of the things within your meal family meal for you to eat too Good luck. I know it seems hard and a bit overwhelming right now, but I promise the time actually goes fast and you will adjust. At 6 weeks out I am now cooking completely normally and my family is benefiting from my healthy choices as well! -
Where are my Flirty Thirties?
purple tulip replied to travelchick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
33 years old..."95 Rock ON!" and so excited to be sleeved now and ready to hopefully live a "skinny" life for the rest of this decade! I have to admit I have avoided certain reunions in the past due to not wanting to face the reality of the physical mess that I had become over the years, though very proud of all of my other personal and professional successes. I should be rockin' it by a 20 year reunion. I just so glad that I went ahead and did this now before more time passed by and I can really enjoy being healthy and all that comes with that YAY for being in our thirties and enjoying it! -
Water, Water, Go Away!

I went to the Dr, who wanted full blood work due to it possibly being many things. Ultimately, it was a diuretic that he prescribed that helped. -
I am freaking out!!! I'm 5 weeks post op. I just paged my Dr. because my ankles are swelling like giant logs and I have been gaining weight...like 10 lbs while following plan. He was like "This is highly unusual, I've actually never seen this before and we need to run some tests". Anyway, I have an appt. to see him in the morning. So hoping it's all a fluke, but I'm so worried.

I should be able to discontinue the diuretic as long as I'm not having this issue again -
Quick question about drinking
purple tulip replied to Ms Lady in NC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that is fairly normal as your swelling goes down. It's a good thing -

Hi There. Just wanted to give an update one week out from this post. After starting a prescribed mild diuretic I have dropped all of the excess weight...almost 16 lbs worth in 5 days! That is crazy and the Dr is unsure why my body was choosing to hold onto all of that water. This process was definitely a reminder of how complex our bodies actually are...as if having 3 babies in five years didn't?! lol ...... I'm very relieved and I am anxious to see how much "real" weight I had been loosing while packing on that water weight. I'm guessing I'll see the scale continue to go down a few lbs more over the next few days...but if I don't I will be ok with that too because at least I am heading in that right direction...yay!..... Thanks for all of your support during my little freak out! -
Trying not to panic
purple tulip replied to gotamakeachange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 15-17lbs in Water weight while following all of the rules to a "T" at 2.5 weeks out. I have also lost that same water weight with a prescribed diuretic in 4 days! We, the Dr. and I really don;t know why my body was choosing to hang onto the water. Our bodies are crazy complex and really it's not always as simple as cals in/cals out. Hang in there and just make sure you know you're doing everything you can, including consulting your Dr/ Dietitians and it will all fall into place -
weight loss after vsg
purple tulip replied to italianmama41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5.5 weeks out and I too stalled at 2.5 weeks after loosing 27lbs. through pre-op and that couple of weeks post-op. I then gained almost 10-15 lbs back in the next following weeks. I was terrified of what was happening because I had been following all of the rules. I went to the Dr. 5 days ago, he prescribed a Water pill and guess what??? I've lost 15 lbs in the water weight that my body was retaining since 2.5 weeks out . And each day I go down a few more lbs. SO, I'm hoping that I will see any real additional weight loss from this "stall" period soon! I have decided that I need to severely alter my high expectations, since there is no guaranteed process for each individual. Just keep on keepin' on and it will all be fine in the long run -
5 wks out and I'm in the 30s!
purple tulip replied to Amanda131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is fantastic! It's great to see such wonderful positive progress on here, since often times there is so much posted about struggle and difficulties. It's all very relevant, but the positive stuff is inspirational Congrats! -
So Scared....
purple tulip replied to purple tulip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Back from the Dr. He maintains that this is the first time in his thousands of sleeves that he has seen a gain like this early out and yes, I have extreme swelling. He put me on a diuretic for water weight and sent me for labs to see if I'm developing something more serious. In the beginning of our conversation he began to talk about food intake and the behavioral aspects of things. I wanted to jump across the room and punch the man, as I know for a fact I have follow every single guideline and rule they have given me! I was very stern with him and made it abundantly clear that this was not the issue and there was obviously something else going on with my body. I was just pissed that he even brought that up. I mean, I realize that that is obviously an issue with people and the first (and easiest) answer for most surgeons, but this is simply not the case for me. I got this surgery for a very serious and simple reason...to loose the weight permanently.....So it's really irritating to me for him to suggest in any way that I may be doing something wrong when I know I haven't. I am just wanting him to do his job and figure the hell out what is going on with my body so I/we can fix it! I am obviously sensitive about this issue as it has been my one big issue in life that I have yet to conquer Anyway, I'm suppose to keep doing what I am doing, take the diuretic and go back for a follow-up visit in 3 weeks as long as everything looks good on my labs. I think that if there is no progress within this next 3 weeks I may go for a second opinion elsewhere. Has anyone else out there had this issue???? Surely I can't be the only person whose body reacts negatively, right?! -
So Scared....
purple tulip replied to purple tulip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the support everyone! I feel totally fine otherwise. Besides my weight issue, I am in good health. I have never had swelling before and I don't have any chronic conditions. I am really worried and quite frankly getting a bit pissed that this WLS is not yet "working" for me though I'm following the rules. I've lost way more weight than this on my own in the past and way quicker. I am just at a loss as to what is happening with my body. I'm hoping I didn't make a huge mistake with this surgery Sorry to get all negative on you all. My morale is down a bit at the moment. After a good nights rest and some testing tomorrow hopefully I will be reassured and be able to get mentally/emotionally refocused too! -
Hi There. Hoping someone could give me some insight. I am 5 weeks out, lost a ton up front and have stalled for the past 2.5 weeks and actually gained 5-7 lbs back, but this morning I woke up with very swollen ankles! I'm following the plan and so I'm quite frustrated. I have never had a swelling problem except for once for a few days following my third child. I'm also fairly healthy besides my wight issue. So I'm so curious as to what is happening with my body?! I have a Dr. appt tomorrow, so I will hopefully get some answers then too, but I wondered if this has happened to anyone else?

Really hungry while on mushie food
purple tulip replied to luvthe8r's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having very similar issues. I originally lost 27 lbs in 2 weeks and it's all been down hill since then. I am now 5 weeks out. I am on soft foods, have been stalled for 2.5 weeks and still feel hungry every 2 or so hours. I also tried increasing my calories this past week to maybe jump start my metabolism and I think it may have backfired because now I feel like I can eat a lot more and I'm still not loosing again! I was just filling out my food log and was shocked to see that I actually put away 1300 cals today....majority Protein and definitely all healthy food, but still that seems like a lot of cals for 5 weeks out. I have a Dr. appt Monday and we're going to really need to talk about this. Any advice on what to do or what to ask? -
Wondering how many calories you consume at each stage? .....More specifically 4 weeks out? Cause all of a sudden I can eat more without feeling full and I'm a bit panicked because it's so much more than a few days ago, yet it's still only around 800 cals. Is that too much?

I don't know anyone who wasn't scared. I was able to calm myself by realizing my 3 main fears. 1) I would die in surgery, 2) I would have some sort of serious complication causing extreme burden on me and my family, and 3) I would fail at another weight loss attempt. After so much research I realized that my #1 and #2 fears were not really rational. The likely hood of those things happening were SOOOOOO slim to none, while the likely hood of developing a life threatening disease from the obesity was almost 100% likely. After voiding out those concerns I was able to get through surgery without panic. And yes, they will let you have meds for anxiety prior to surgery and the day of surgery. My 3rd fear I am still working on every day and it is one that will probably stick with me for awhile through this process, but that's ok because it is part of the journey. Good luck to you.

eleven day post op with weight gain
purple tulip replied to ampsgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you started loosing again? I am 3 weeks out and I have stayed the same and gained 2lbs over the course of this past week and a half also! SO I guess I was about 11 days post op when I hit this crazy stall too! Mine is still not moving and I am following the rules. Just wondered if you've had any luck in the past few days? -
LOTS of Excellent Clothes for Sale
purple tulip replied to purple tulip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! Good suggestion. I actually have some people interested on Craigslist and if that doesn't pan out maybe I'll try eBay -
Girl, I too am super worried. I am only 3 weeks post op and I have not lost, but gained 2 lbs in the past week and a half after loosing 27lbs in the first 2 weeks. In that time I was still partically on full liquids and then just moved on to mushies. I don't know what to do to get it all jump started, but it's getting super frustrating. If you get any good ideas please pass them along! I was hoping that getting this surgery would take some of that mental frustration of not seeing the scale move away, but it's not at the moment I guess I'll just keep chugging along. Eventually something has to change, right?! Hang in there.

LOTS of Excellent Clothes for Sale
purple tulip replied to purple tulip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I never sell my stuff. I usually always donate it, but I thought it'd be a good idea to try being as I need whole new wardrobes. I wasn't sure how to price it, but it's only a couple of bucks per item, which I didn't think was a lot. There's just a lot of like new, cute stuff that I hate to get rid of even though it's a size I never want to see again! I tried to put a $ amount that I would personally pay. Thanks for the feedback though. I'm one of those people who would never know how to price things at a yard sale...nice to have a sounding board for others opinions. -
Hi There. I am almost 3 weeks post op and I am starting to become a bit discouraged. I lost 27lbs from 3 days pre-op diet until 1.5 post op. I was on cloud nine and so thrilled. Iknew it would drastically slow down at some point, but since 1.5 weeks out I have lost zero! .....Not only zero, but I have actually gained 2lbs back. I have strictly followed the guidelines and have been moving so much more in this past week and a half too, so I assumed that while it would slow down, that I wouldn't be completely stalled and gaining?!?! I'm assuming my body is in shock or starvation mode or something, but I wish I could do something to get it going again. Any ideas?!? I really don't want to get discouraged because that is my old pattern...to fall off the wagon. Is this normal for any of you and how long until it got moving again? Thanks!
