Ive been a nurse for over 15 years and love it. Im very lucky because the nurses on my ward all are aware that i have MS so will help me if needed. It really depends if you want to go to uni or tafe. Just search the net for careers.

Cam... mmmmm... bad breath... yep i noticed that when i got up this morning. I couldnt sleep well again last night probably a mixture of the heat and my tummy doing overtime rumbling. Day 3 of Optifast... no headache yet today but i feel a bit on the weak side. Im taking vitamins to try and give me some strength. The only thing i have to do if i feel like cheating is ... look at your pics. Hope you dont mind but i showed my husband.... any reservations he had about me having this op, i think have now gone. He said 'WOW" about 3 times. I have so far lost 1.5kg (now 101.5kg) on OPTIFAST so im heading down to the double figures before the op. I have to be happy with that.... Can i ask how much you weighed going into the op??

    Australian MS Bandsters

Hello... yes im still a practising nurse at Western Hospital. I only work 2 afternoon shifts per week and try and space them out as 2 straight absolutely kills me fatigue wise. Im okay with the heat in Victoria until it reaches about 35. Queensland is a different story... i made the mistake of going a few years back mid-january and the humidity was so bad and really made the MS symptoms increase. Never again!!!

    Australian MS Bandsters

Hi Girls.... At the age of 21 (1991)i was laying on a beach sundbaking and felt tingling in my fingertips on both hands. This progressed over the following few days so i saw my local GP. He said it was nothing. Then i saw another GP and another and another. Then i finally saw a GP who would listen and he said he suspected 'carpal tunnel syndrome' so sent me to have that tested.... ho hum it was normal. Having commenced my Nursing training i actually asked everyone if i could have MS... all the GP's said NO... Then in 1997 following the birth of my first child i developed blurred vision and increased sensation problems. I also kept dropping everything i picked up ( had to go an invest in glasses and plates!!!) Once again from GP to GP. Came across an elderly GP and i asked him if he thought i could have MS. He looked at me straight in the eyes and said... i think you have. Then the neurologist ( Dr Matkovic WMH), visual evoke test and MRI. 23/12/97 i was diagnosed with MS. 2000- i had my second child and then in 2001 commenced on betaferon. MRI repeated last month and little change from previously MRI in 1997. I have been left with quite a lot of sensation loss in my right hand ( Have to be careful with water temperatures etc) and slight ongoing tingling in all other limbs. I have only developed occasional leg spasms over the past 6 months. so.... thats my story.

    Melbourne Chat Thread!!!!

Thanks Karen.... will definately try different things with the OPTIFAST. 3 weeks today for me :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: I was talking to someone yesterday and mentioned that im going to be banded... they said ... really such and such has had that done. The person they were referring to is a lady about 170cm tall and i would say about 55kg. I never saw this woman obese and i cant even visualize it. She looks absolutely amazing. Apparently her start weight was around the 150kg . Everyone knows someone that has been banded..... getting very popular it is.

Well i'll be a total of 3 weeks and 1 day OPTIFAST pre-op. im going to do my very best to stick to it. Although i wasnt told that i needed to go on OPTIFAST, i think it will help and prepare me for the adjustment to a liquid diet. Never know... if i drop a few kilo's i might fly thru the Respiratory function tests. I didnt feel really short of breath until i got heavier than about 92kg,

    Melbourne Chat Thread!!!!

Yeh... got the MRI results... they showed that the MS has only slightly progressed compared to 10 years ago so i was really happy with that... Day 1 of OPTIFAST and im determined. Im putting 'myself' on it for 3 weeks pre-op. i think if all you had to do it... i will too. Im going to try and drop a few kg and excersise from now until the 28/2 so i can hopefully get through the Respiratory function tests okay.

22 more sleeps for me thanks to Loretta's calculations. Day 1 of Optifast today. Day 1 of excersise to get these lungs working today. Day 1 of realizing this is getting closer, i dont think it had really hit me until now...... couldnt sleep last night
  23. bronnie70

    Another Newbie

Hi Loretta anmd all.......... 22 more sleeps !!!!! OMG well after yesterday im still stressing!!. Respiratory function tests on the 28/2 could prove to be a problem. Can i borrow someones lungs as mine are stuffed. Well the Physician knows the op is on the 9/3 so im sure if he wanted me to also have sleep studies then he would have booked me in for them too. Im off for an ECG today. Someone told me on another site .... dont stress. he will just be checking your lungs so they can keep a closer eye on you if there are any problems there..... Anyway... i didnt sleep at all last night.... lots of thoughts racing in my head. Ive decided that i am going to start OPTIFAST today ( just under 3 weeks to op). I know Dr Nottle didnt indicate i needed to go on it but im going to prepare myself as best i can. Ive had my many Hotcoss Buns and easter eggs so im happy now :hungry: .

I think if the respiratory tests arnt great they would do the same precautions as for the people that have abnormal sleep studies... i hope so anyway Im going to leave things as is....
