Hi Everone.... Lisa... did your doc put 4mls in on your first fill??? Thats a huge amount in one shot. If this is the case im not surprised the restriction was too much. Maybe my doctor just plays it safe adding gradual amounts. Ive had 2 fills now.... first time was 2mls and a few days ago was another ml. Im going to have my third fill and another ml added on the 1st June. I was banded nearly 8 weeks ago and it took about 5-6 weeks until the soreness in my throat completely resolved. .... a small degree of trauma is caused to the throat when putting the airway in your mouth at the commencement of surgery. Sucking on lozengers is worth a try. This is one possiblt cause of the sore throat and the most likely... ( there's my 16yrs as a nurse coming your way)

Hi everyone... well i had my second fill so now i have 3ml in a 6ml band. It was more pleasant than my 1st fill... probably because i was aware what to expect this time and i wasnt nervous. Anyway, he suggested i stay on fluids for 3 days just to see if the amount of fill is okay. I lost 4kg inbetween fills ( in 5 week period) which he said is excellent.

Hi all... Im going for my second fill tomorrow. I only have 2mls in a 6ml band and i think they are putting in 1ml tomorrow. I really hope this does the trick as my weight loss has really slowed down and i dont have very much restriction. Hope everyone is doing well.

hi everyone... all is going well for me. Due for my second fill on the 4th may. Been having a little trouble with food getting stuck but slowly im working through it. Also had left shoulder pain over the past 5 days but thankfully not as intense as i had post-op. Im not sure why ive developed it again as i hadnt had pain for over 3 weeks and now its back. A bit of a concern and something i'll ask the surgeon about on my visit. Take care

Hi everyone.... thought id drop in to say hi and make sure your all fine. I had a few problems last week when i didnt listen to my band and everything i ate ended up coming back up to greet me. Ive learnt from that experience and all is going well now. Ive also increased the excersise..... played 4 hours of tennis competition today and i was amazed at my energy level and i can actually run... I havernt been able to do that for over 12 years. Im so happy!!!!

I worked all over easter and ive picked up an extra shift this afternoon. The rest of the week im going to have off. Ive noticed some more kilo's coming off for you Susannah.... well done. Im at a real standstill at the moment but i really need to increase the excersise. Im due for a fill on 4th may so i hope that does the trick.

    Melbourne Chat Thread!!!!

Hi all..... it was actually a very thin older lady that made that comment. Hey.... guess i gotta expect that as ive got a long way to go. I had a bad night last night............. my husband was going to the 'fish @ Chip' shop and asked what i wanted........mmmmmmmmmmmm.... I said if you want to know what i want its...... a hamburger with the lot and 2 fried dim sims. Now...... if you want to know what i CAN HAVE.... 1 piece of grilled flake. So............... there i was eating so slowly it was getting cold. I got through 1/2 of it and felt really full, then just thought 1 chip want hurt. so, i cut my 1 chip in 4 little pieces and ate slowly.... then with water in my eyes i bolted to the loo and watched those 4 bits of a chip come back to greet me. My lesson was.... stop when im full and dont eat something i dont need ie the chip. What a painful lesson i had.... Well... im now totally off both chicken and fish.... Cant wait to get onto the red meat!!!!!

Morning all... Work is going okay. I was glad to get back and the start of the shift was great as everyone noticed my weight loss then.... i went in to assist a patient to get into bed and she said ' oh!! you'll be able to help me on your own , your a large girl'...... AH!!!! :faint: She didnt mean tall !!! Some people just have no tact, do they!!!??? She might as well said FAT!! Anyway... in relation to weight.... now that im eating normal food the scales arnt moving. I was warned that could happen until my next fill on 4th May. I must admit ive been a bit slack in the excersise area as been busy and tired. My first shift back at work knocked me around as im an early to bed girl and the shift was 2-10 pm. Im still walking around like a zombie 2 days later..... wake up Bronwyn!!!!!

Well, my surgeon did say to try everything and see what didnt agree with me and ive found a few things i'll avoid. Guess im on my 'L' plates but i cant wait to get off them. My body tells me one thing but my eyes and brain tell me another.

Hi all.... well im on soft food and its great. I decided to treat myself today and i ordered 1 X steamed dim sim. I managed to get through 1/2 of it once i squished and shopped it..... Im still amazed how little i can eat. I believe even if banded.... i deserve small treats occasionally. Dionne.... ive been getting chest pain on and off since banded. I believe this is due to gas remaining trapped.

Im amazed just how little i can eat... started on mushie food today. Breakfast: managed 1/4 of a very sloppy weatbix Lunch: Yogurt ( thought id play it safe) Dinner: Scrambled eggs were on the menu this evening. I ate about 2/3 of 1 egg scrambled with sauce on it ( sounds interesting doesnt it!! tasted divine after no food for 16 days)... at the 2/3 mark i got chest pain and thought it was going to come back up but it didnt so the remainder was appreciated by the dog.

Hi Loretta... thought you'd fallen down the loo!!!! Some advise from those banded required: since the fill 2 days ago i sometimes feel something is stuck in my throat, its an off and on feeling. Ive just woken up and the feeling is there. Im still on liquids but starting mushie today. Liquids have been going down fine but yesterday i over did it.... i drank the whole 200mls of OPTIFAST and i think i drank it to fast, i did try to pace myself... the pain ,OUCH!!! Guess this is a huge learning experience and a matter of trial and error. Has anyone else had similar experiences??
  22. bronnie70

    Hi newbie with questions.......

Apparently going on OPTIFAST makes the liver more easier to monauver during the op. I dont think they know for sure who has and doesnt have a fatty liver but the lighter in weight you are pre-op i imagine the less chance you have a fatty liver. Some of the other people on this site will have a much more accurate explanation than myself as they are more experienced...
  23. bronnie70

    Hi newbie with questions.......

Hello.... after you see the surgeon, he may request you go on a pre-op diet which in most cases is 2-3 weeks on OPTIFAST ( purchased from the chemist) pre-surgery. I was lucky enough not to have to do the pre-op diet due to my BMI being 38. My surgeon puts people on the pre-op diet if they have a BMI over 40.

Susannah... i know how you feel. I have put up with years of abuse by many people in relation to my weight. my memories date back to childhood; include constantly being reminded that my sisters were thin and i was fat. Some people would have chosen to take the path of anorexia but i found the comfort in food thus the road to being abese. But... for us all... we have stopped going down that road and have changed direction finding a path to health and happiness. In relation to my fill yeaterday: I actually feel restriction. I guess a 2ml fill in a 6ml band is rather significant. Also... i can feel the pouch draining... its all so weird but all so great. Another 1kg down today. Total of 6kg in 15 days. Must admit im working my butt off in the excersise area. 45-1hr walk daily and back to playing tennis 3 times per week.

    Hi newbie with questions.......

Everyone looses the weight at a different rate but the main thing is people should be proud of even the smallest amount of weight lose as its an achievement that may not have occured without the band. I had my op on 9/3/07... Lost 3kg on pre-op diet and now 5kg in the past 2 week liquid diet phase.
