    Pre-op diet - starving

I had very similar issues when I was on my pre-op diet (10 days, only liquid all day and then at night I could have 1 - 180 calorie lean cuisine type meal) and I had to keep calories under 800. I was starving. My Doctor explained to me that she likes to have her patient on very low calorie diets before the surgery because your stomach gets used to being hungry and stops doing the rolling growl which can speed up the post surgery healing process. I tried to keep my eye on the prize, remember that it was so I would heal better after my surgery and then when that didnt work, I chugged zero calorie liquids. I hope this helps! Good Luck! ~KimmieLouWho

    I'm here to help...

Hey all, Just wanted to say hello and that I've found everything you all say very helpful. I appreciate it! I was banded 4 months ago and am struggling with getting into some sort of weight loss groove and finding out just exactly what my eating issues actually are. It's not fun to realize I'm not fat just because I like to eat.... but because I have an unhealthy relationship with food that is made even more unhealthy with the chaos that I live in constantly. I'm excited to get to know more of you and I thought I would post this in the "buddies/mentors" section because I could always use a mentor or buddy!! Thanks for 'listening'! ~K

    Slowed Momentum

It's so helpful to hear this! I was up 4lbs since xmas and am now back down, but, it scared me that I paid more than I've ever paid for anything in my life (I'm a self pay) I'm supposed to be losing weight and instead I'm gaining! I'm pretty good at beating myself up, but sometimes that just leads to more uncontrolled eating. It's amazing how much I'm learning about my eating habits and my self sabotage techniques. crazy stuff. But thanks for sharing your struggle. I'm nipping those 4lbs before it goes to 50, which can happen in the blink of an eye for me!

    Slowed Momentum

This is a good idea. A few folks suggested this and I'm going to do it. I'd rather have my liquid calories be protien shakes and not mochas. Thanks!
  5. Hi Everyone, I'm semi-new to this site. I was banded on 9/14/10. I've lost about 35lbs since starting this process but, I have not lost any weight in the last 3 weeks. I made horrible food choices over the holidays and I'm feeling pretty bad about it. I have turned to liquid calories when my band feels too tight (which is for about 4 days every month at the same time) and now I've been ingesting liquid calories when my band doesnt feel too tight. I feel like i'm resorting to old habits and I need to re-calibrate my head but that's so much easier said than done. I have a million excuses but, they're just that, excuses. My life will always be hectic and chaotic, I just need to figure out how to deal with that and not let my desire to be healthy suffer. I just needed to vent to some folks who might understand what I'm dealing with. ~K

I think doc missed my port on 1st fill

I was banded in September 2010, my doc filled me durring surgery and then unfilled me 3 days out of surgery because of an upper respatory infection. When I got my 1st fill I didnt notice any restriction, then I was convinced that something was wrong with my port (mental! it's just fine!) I actually didnt notice restriction until about my 4th fill. I always have a strange tingling sensation, I believe is the cold saline moving through the tube from my port to the band. when getting a fill the dr withdraws a small amount to make sure they're in the port before injecting the saline. I also get a strange feeling in my stomach when I get a fill..... like going over a dip in a roller coaster. I hope this helps! -K
