  1. I woke up sick after I posted this and went to doctor. You can visibly see that my tongue is red and inflammed but he said it isn't thrush. I have bronchitis and strep so he thinks it was probably my body letting me know I was sick or getting dehydrated. Started antibiotics and steroids today so hopefully it clears up. I have started eating yogurt daily just to be on the safe side.
  2. I have lived on deli meat and cheese for years now so that wouldn't be the problem. I would rather have high salt intake then low Protein intake. Sodium isn't actually anything I have a problem with and I have very low blood pressure so no fear of BP problems.
  3. I am not necessarily on a diet....meaning I eat whatever I want and do not restrict any foods. I had a revision 1/25/13 but had my lap band for almost 2 years prior to the revision. I monitor my protein and know the best ways to get high protein and less calories but I do not have any food that is off limits. I have had soda, alcohol, and other junk food items (chips, ice cream, etc). I restrict the amount of those foods but not the type of food..... of course I can't have that junk everyday. I have lost 80 pounds and have not gained any back. Food doesn't taste the same to me anymore so I don't chose to eat a lot of the foods that I used to love. Soda burns, I have been off bread, rice, and pasta for 2 years so I don't even want it anymore, I can only eat about 3 chips, and sweets like cookies make me nauseous. It's really weird now that these things aren't tempting and don't taste good. I do have a small addiction to jolly ranchers that I am working on.

    Unjury Unflavored

Remember no bake chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies (there are different names for them but they have cocoa, oatmeal, and peanut butter). There is a recipe for high Protein ones and that is what I make when I buy Protein Powder that I don't care for. I also use PB2 in place of peanut butter to cut calories but save protein. You might try that or make protein balls with your unflavored protein.
  5. Oscal with D is adequate for calcium and it comes in tablets. I haven't had any problem taking pills so you might be better off with a pill form instead of chewables. I bought a calcium powder when I had my lap band from Bariatric advantage. It is flavorless and you just mix it into anything (food or liquid). I have had a lot of mixed reviews on the unflavored protein because it still has the vitamin type flavor and smell. Unjury website you can order sample packs to try it before spending a small fortune on a big bottle. There is also protein soup and pudding on their website. I had to make a rule for myself that I don't allow myself anything else until I have had a protein shake (because I was getting to the point of putting it off all day). Also look at a website called the world according to egg face. There is a ton of ideas for protein.
  6. When you are out this summer showing off your hot body then you will feel better about your sacrifices.
  7. I had about a year worth of health issues related to my lap band prior to my revision in January. My hair was falling out and thinned very bad by the time I healed from the revision. I was in bad shape nutritionally and had to have blood, Multivitamins, and potassium IV. I started taking Silica and Biotene for the hair issue. I have only been on them about 3 weeks and the hair loss seems about normal now (few hairs during shower). It takes about 6-8 weeks to see results from the Silica and Biotene (since hair grows slow) but you might check into it. My dr. didn't tell me about them but I read it on one of these forums and figured it can't hurt. I also became very strict about my Protein so that makes a difference also.
  8. I was on the refried bean diet when I had my lap band. Ahhhh memories
  9. I'm confused about why you can't do all the things you mentioned. I go out to eat with friends/family and order from appetizer or soup and salad menu. Salmon, tuna, shrimp, cheese sampler, and chicken wings are on almost every menu and are high protein, require little chewing, low fat, and you can generally eat more of a portion. I always order water with meals because its a waste to pay for any other liquid unless you drink it before your meal. If anyone mentions me not eating much I just say I'm not a member of the clean plate club anymore. I have been out drinking and even out clubbing. I'm married almost 13 years and sex is better because I have more confidence and bend easier:). Of course things are different now but wasn't that the point? Things have to change to have a different result.
  10. Google healthwise. They have some that are more like crystal light and the flavors are actually good.

How did you not lose you jobs?

My friend had a strict job and had to do it under FMLA. Once approved any time you miss pertaining to this issue can't go against you. She had a lap and so even band adjustments were under her FMLA.

    Newcomer on Plateau

What are you going to accomplish by quitting your vitamins and protein? When you start to deplete protein and vitamins then you will start having food cravings and fatigue. You will only go downhill from here so get back on track. This stall will pass. You have had a large loss in a short time so your body has to recover. Best of luck

    What is Wrong with ME?

I haven't told to many people either and when people ask I tell the truth. Diet and exercise. That's how your losing it....doesn't matter why you are able to diet. I know what you mean though because at first I would say I got sick then I started saying I had some health issues but people think serious issues so I started saying diet and exercise there's no other way.

I also used Bahama Bucks as a treat. They have thin ice snow cones with no carbs and no calories and a lot of variety. Idk if you have one where you live but it was a savior to me. I could only tolerate a baby one but that's still Fluid. If you don't have Bahama Bucks maybe there is a snow come stand near you.

Morning afternoon sleevers found some great protien

I also see microwaveable pork rinds that aren't fried and have 23 grams of protein, 4 grams of fat, 0 carbs for 1 ounce. That is a lot of protein in an ounce of food.

Morning afternoon sleevers found some great protien

When I had the lap band and could not get anything down (long story) for a long time I used a liquid protein called provide liquid gold. It comes in sugar free and regular and 1 tablespoon had 15 grams of protein. I knew about it because I am a nurse and it is a medical protein used when patients protein and albumin are low. I can't remember what type of protein it was (whey, soy, etc) but I was at the protein that any protein was better then none. The regular was the consistency and taste of the gel candy kids get and the sugar free was a little bitter but not horrific. I hope I don't get blasted here but what is the deal with pork skins? I looked at a label today and 1 ounce was 17 grams of protein, 0 carbs, and 9 grams of unsaturated fat. I really don't know if they are okay or not. What do any of you know or think about them? I'm really on the fence and seems that the crunchy would satisfy a craving.

    Sleeved Twice - My Story

WOW!!! I hope you do something about the original surgeon (file a complaint, bring it to their attention, something) to save future people. All surgeries can have complications but not removing what the surgery was intended for is not a complication. I am glad you were able to have the second surgery (what a financial nightmare) being private pay. I bet the weight falls off now and you hit your goal weight soon.

    SF Popsicles

It doesn't count as water but it does count as fluid. When I had my surgery my instructions were to get 64 ounces of fluid not water. I used anything I could tolerate because I struggled to get anything down. Anything that melts to a liquid on its own is considered fluid... even sugar free jello.

    Who Are You?

I am Marla and I am 37 years old. I have been married for 11 years (second marriage) and together we have 3 children age 17, 15, 13. We have had custody of all 3 so they are as close as siblings can be (with all of the fighting). My 15 year old son has pervasive developmental disorder so life is interesting and organized chaos. He goes to a special needs private school and I thank God we have this school in my town. With 3 teenagers my house is full of drama and upset kids (as you can imagine) but they are pretty good kids. I am a RN, BSN and work for the state of Texas performing utilization review of programs that serve clients with intellectual disabilities. I also work part time as a contract nurse administering the state Nurse Aide Certification test. I LOVE that job because I get to see a lot of joy and fresh healthcare employees. I have been a nurse since 1997 and can't believe it has been that long. Both jobs require travel but usually it is day travel. My husband is a car mechanic but is graduating in May for aviation mechanic so he is hoping to have a job change. I serve on the family advisory board of my 15 year olds school and I am the room Mom but really all the Moms pitch in and with only 8 kids in the class it is a pleasant duty. My 15 year old is starting soap box derby tomorrow and he does BMX bicycling. My 13 year old is a hip hop dancer, runs track, and is in modeling classes. My 17 year old is "finding himself" as he graduated from high school at age 16 and had no plan for life as an adult. I LOVE the gym but only group classes and try to go 5 days a week. My favorite classes are spinning, combat, and body pump. The gym is really the only time I have peace and alone time and my family knows that Mom gets her hour a day for the gym so it is not a struggle (in the beginning it was and I had to remember I deserve to take care of myself) and I am hoping to do the color run 5K this June but I had knee surgery in November so I'm not sure. My favorite singer is PINK and I went to her concert in February. That sums up my silly life
  20. I had a personal trainer once that said the reason most women fail at weight loss is because they believe 2 things. #1. If we eat something we have deemed off limits then we reason that we blew our "diet" so we might as well eat what we want that day and start over tomorrow. #2. We lose some weight or get to our goal and feel we can now go back to eating what we want (we earned it or our job is done mentality) when what we want to eat is what got us in this trouble. He was right! That was exactly the roller coaster I was on. You have to change your way of thinking to change your outcome.

    RIP Lappy ;(

I was banded in March of 2011 and have lost 75 pounds since then. Last Thursday I attempted to eat some refried beans and almost immediately I began getting sick. I had been getting sick a lot lately and had gone in the day before and had my band deflated to try and get myself together. This would be my last attempt with the band. The pain got worse and the vomiting and dry heaving would not let up. The doctor that deflated my band the day before just happened to call and check on me during this ordeal and he advised me to meet him at the ER and the odds were that I would be admited for surgery. I went to the ER and he had orders waiting so they quickly drew my labs and gave me pain meds as well as phenergan for the dry heaving. He showed up to do the barrium swallow and sure enough my entire stomach had prolapsed through the band (he said the band hadn't slipped so I guess there is a difference between a prolapse and a slip). My blood count was very low because I had been getting sick for a while and turns out the lining of my stomach was bleeding. He admited me and took me in for surgery at 7 the next morning. The band had got under my spleen and there was some trauma there but they were able to control the bleeding and leave the spleen. He fixed a hernia that had been caused since getting the band and resectioned me to a sleeve. I lost enough blood that I had to have 2 transfusions in the 5 nights I was there. I'm a hot mess right now and in pain but I'm better today then I was yesterday. I feel so lost now because I know nothing about the sleeve and of course I'm scared that something could go wrong with it. Even though I had a bad experience I do not regret my decision to have WLS and I'm looking forward to moving on and healing up. I really can't say that I should have done things differently because I didn't have the signs people talk about. I was always able to get liquids down but was never able to get the band adjusted correctly. Anyway I'm gonna miss lappy but hopefully sleeve will give me what I need and with less problems. Now I need to learn everything I would have learned before surgery about the sleeve. Do's and don't's, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Any information would be great!

    Tough times

How are you only getting 300 calories. I was sleeved about a week before you and i am getting 900 - 1200. Can you list out your consumption for a day? I'm just curious how you are consuming so few calories. Idk if I could make it on three hundred calories.
