    Help Lol

Seems all doctors are different but 2 years out should just be about getting proteins. My doctor told me at 1 month post op to eat what I want. If it can go down then I can have it but no more then 1/2 cup and no carbonated stuff. Always eat your protein first or you won't get it in. My band is very touchy so I have a long list of foods that wont go down but my best friend was banded a month before me and she can eat just about anything. Avoid slider foods like ice cream, pudding, and sweet tea or soda.
  2. I'm sure you are fine. That burning happens to some people with certain foods (like peanut butter for me) or it is just trying to get that stuff down. Just swallow and get it down. I think most people eat before their recommended date because hunger wins . I did the same thing a few weeks after surgery but it was a boiled egg and I thought thats soft. The center was so pasty it felt stuck and I hit panic mode. It's ok we are all human.

They Want To Remove My Band. I Say Nooooo!

Does your insurance have a copay? You might end up paying more in copays then to see a band doctor. We didnt have a doctor in my area when I first got banded but I posted on here and found a RN that specialized in bands and she unfilled me so it saved me a flight and several days of pain. Maybe you could check on that. Have your primary order all the tests mentioned in these posts and then try to see a band doctor. I know you are financially hurting but it will cost you ten times as much to have a doctor remve your band if that isn't necessary. Maybe you can call the nearest band doctor that doesnt want to perform surgery over the phone and explain your situation. Beg to be seen and set up payment arrangements. You would be surprised how many places have charity money for these instances. Hope things get better and you don't need surgery.

They Want To Remove My Band. I Say Nooooo!

Can you get in to see you general doctor and ask him to order some imaging using barrium? Or call your original surgeon and explain your circumstance and see is he will call in an order to a local hospital for imaging? I definately would NOT have it removed without confirmation of a slip. Sometimes slips can be treated without surgery. My band is very sensitive and when I am stressed (which is a lot lately since I have a 16 year old) I can't get any food down and most liquids won't go. I have to drink wheat I can and use my protein. You are correct that insurance wouldn't pay for it now that you are at goal weight. Use the doctor locator on here to see if you can find another band doctor. You might have to fly to your surgeon... good luck

Idk What Is Wrong With Me

Could be on to something with the reflux and the pouch stretching. It isn't the protein because that's the first thing I did was stop protein and dairy products.
  6. I have had my band for thirteen months and have oticed a few things that I wonder if anyone else experiences. I am going to try not to be to graphic but...... First of all i sometimes get these sulfur tasting burps. I do not know what causes them but it is a horrible taste. I also will BP but there are times it smells sour or rotten and actually makes me vomit (actual vomiting because it hurts and comes from down deep). I almost think food must be sitting in my pouch and spoiling (IDK just assuming). I thought maybe it was milk products causing this but I am not sure. There seem to be some foods that do not digest. Anyone else experience this issue?

    Has Anyone Experienced This?

I do not a lot. I can't lay down after eating. I think it is just the band tightening and a little reflux. Since the band is actually positioned in your chest then it seems to get touchy and make me feel like I have a lump or something. I can also feel this same thing if I get really upset.

    Pb2

I can NOT eat peanut butter since my band. I get reflux and heartburn and productive burping for a few days. It does not seem to digest or make it through my band. Were you like that and does this PB2 have those side effects?

    Regrets?

I think my surgery went well because I was banded and released to my hotel within a few hours. I didn't go back and sleep like one would think. Actually I was awake for almost 24 hours because the anesthsia made me anxious and I was afraid to take my Ambien. I walked all over the hotel (every hour like they said plus some) and drank liquids. I was a little sore and got the nasty cough which hurts when you cough. I was very swollen and didn't tell anyone about my surgery except my husband. I went back to work that Monday and was worried because I looked pregnant from the swelling. In the gym that week but all I was released to do was walk so for two weeks I walked and walked and walked. I have been banded for 13 months and have lost 50 pounds and I was a low BMI to start with so it can be done!!!

    Bcbs...is It True?

It is possible. They have made a lot of changes. Ask them for the policy change in writing or just ask your surgeon.

    Inpanic Mode, Please Help.

Don't get yourself worked up because if it was slipped they wouldn't have gotten a camera past it. If you youtube a lapband surgery you can see why they may not see it from in the GI tract because it is placed around the tract and attached. My experience is if a doctor doesnt know about a band then do not listen to them. I went to urgent care one day for pain and the doctor freaked out that I still have a port in so long after surgery. She had no idea about lapband and didnt treat my pain thinking it was the port. It was a cyst rupturing on my ovary! Definately call your band doctor tomorrow. The good thing is a small slip with no symptoms can often be fixed with liquids for a few weeks. You may have no restriction if they hydrated you well with IV fluids or gave you anything to slow your GI tract.

    Regrets?

Yes I did and seems that most people do. I thought I made a mistake until about my third fill because I wasn't losing.

    Rate Of Lapband Failure?

Some even eat around their bands, washing food through with Water so they can eat more or eating slider foods like crazy. I don't know how people do this because if I touch liquid close to my food then I PB everything up. IDK how they can wash food through.

    Rate Of Lapband Failure?

My friend was banded about a month before I was. She was very succesful at first and then (like most women do) decided she lost weight so she could cheat. When she started gaining and couldn't stop then her mentality was I eat a lot of ice cream because that is all I can get down. When I would say why can't you get a sugar free popsicle down she would shut down. Now she says she can't get anything but liquids down but I go to lunch with her and she eats the entire plate of food. One of her problems is she thinks the band is her miracle and she will go get filled but she is using slider foods and probably overfilling the band. I try not to say anything but I have suggested she just get it deflated and when she is mentaly ready start over because she is just torturing herself. I have had success but it isn't fast (I started with a low BMI) and it hasn't been easy. I have a short list of foods I can eat comfortably and my band is very touchy. You can be very successful but you have to be the one to do it and not expect the band to do the work for you.

    Sick Sick Sick

I have had my band for a year and have realized that it is very sensitive. I went in for a biopsy Thursday and everything seemed okay. My band got extremely tight Sunday night and by Monday I had fever, chills, bleeding, cramping, cough, and reflux. I will be contacting my doctor in the morning but what is everyones experience. If I go on liquids until I am over this will the band settle down or should I go get some removed?

    Sick Sick Sick

My doctor put me on antibiotics which I can't get down. My band surgeon is in Fort Worth and there is no way I can fly now. I think the infection just has my band tight and my stomache irritated. The biopsy was endometrial but I have an infection now.... just my luck!!! I am going to have to find a something to open and pour this bitter capsule in.

    Help!

You are too tight. It will be worse tonight when you try to sleep. If you can't get into your doc to get some out then here is what I do. Start taking an antacid like Maalox or prilosec now, do not eat or drink anything about 4 hours before bed, and you might have to sleep sitting up if it is bad enough.

    Help!

yes it is too tight. Sometimes the stomache gets irritated and swollen so go to liquids for a few days then progress back to mushies. if you still cant get anything down then get some fluid out. If you start having other symptoms of tight band like reflux, night cough, or cant even get liquids down then go get some removed right away.
  21. Why do you feel guilty if it is an occassional thing? All doctors are different but my lap band doctor said I can eat anything I want (except soda) as long as I can get it down ok and no more then 1/4cup. He specifically said alcohol is ok but be careful because it will take less to get drunk. You have to allow room for pleasures in life.

    Weird Tightness After Band Fill?

chest and back pain would be your band. Do you have a cough (especially at night), any reflux, thick saliva. Sounds like your band could be to tight but some people say they go back on liquids for a few days and it seems to resolve. Womens menstrual cycles also seem to make the band tighten.

    Weird Tightness After Band Fill?

Could be. I have a really sensitive stomache and usually have issues after the fill. My stomache will start flip flopping and get upset so hopefully it is not too tight.

    Toooo Much Going On...

Stop and breath!!! To be honest I cheated before surgery and i couldn't stick with the liquids. After surgery I have had success and stuck with my plan so don't be to hard on yourself. Try to have some portion control but trying to withold food is going to make you binge. Maybe you should go ahead and put in for the surgery to get your leave approved and then if you can't have surgery by then tell them you aren't going to need your vacation after all. I only took 2 days off and didn't tell my employer why but my best friend did it under FMLA and they couldnt deny her time off for all her follow up stuff. Good luck
  25. Yes mine does with excercise and also if my bowels are moving a lot. Not trying to be gross but honest
