My story is probably familiar to most people. I was thin as a kid (but always tall with hips and butt) and then in early teen years gained a lot of weight. I was probably depressed but back then you either "get over it" or your parents will give you something to be sad about I remember trying to lose weight but I didn't know how so everything I tried failed. When I moved out on my own I became VERY thin (too many parties, jobs, and sleepless nights) and I did okay until my first pregnancy and then the yoyo weight loss began. I did stay thin after both kids until my 30's and then life slows down and habits became worse and weight started packing on. Before I turned to surgery I had personal trainers, nutritionists, and numerous attempts at various programs but nothing worked long term. I was probably a little different because I did work out at least 5 days per week before surgery but my problem was I couldn't maintain my weight unless I spent all my time at the gym and as I got older I realized that wasn't realistic. I was experiencing injury after injury, extreme fatigue, and had hit a plateau with weight so I decided on the band to help me maintain more then lose. Don't get me wrong I definately had weight to lose but I was a low BMI patient and most people don't turn to surgery for 50 pounds. I have lost a lot of weight but not all that I had hoped to but the important thing for me is that I don't have to spend 10 - 15 hours per week at the gym. I actually only go about 3 days per week now and work out at a pace that is normal!!! Life after the band has been hard (no magic trick here) and my band is super touchy but I don't regret it. I feel much better with this weight off and I have more confidence now.
