Greetings all! I've posted 1-2 messages before this in the Intro section and I chatted in the Chat Room for the first time today. It just occurred to me that I ONLY HAVE 1 MORE DAY UNTIL MY BANDING!!! I'm both scared and excited. I've been chatting with folks in the Chat Room about what to expect in order to decrease my anxiety level. I have so many questions and so many mixed emotions, including the fact that I want --nay, I NEED this to work. Since I need to rely in large part on my own will power to succeed, I'm scared that I'll fail the way I have in the past. I'm trying to think positively, but now that it's real and only 24 hours away, the old insecurities are cropping back up.:help: :help: -ginatae55

Angy - I'm your January band-sister! Like you, I'm being banded on January 3rd --tomorrow morning at 9:30am. I haven't been able to sleep before daybreak in a week! What are you thinking? Are you both excited and scared like me? I'm in Massachusetts. Where are you? -ginatae55

Thanks Laurigee! I keep forgetting that just because something happened to 1 person, doesn't mean that it will happen to me. I just can't wait 'til it's over. If you don't mind me asking, what did you take with you to the hospital? -
Grumpy nyc and Anne - Thanks for the info re: the post-lap band and hernia repair experience. I get the feeling that most of my post-op pain will derive from the hernia repair, and not the lapband. The closer I get to the surgery --I'm having it Wednesday morning --the more nervous I'm getting. I can't sleep! I also haven't been as diligent as I should have during the 2-week pre-op period. Will this be a problem? Thanks. -ginatae55

Grumpy NYC and others- Thanks much for your advice! I now have a vivid picture of what to expect, which makes things a bit easier, because I'm no longer flying in the dark. Needless to say, I plan on buying gas-x and propel tonight before I go home. I can't believe I only have 3 days before the surgery. (I was wrong when I said it was Tuesday; it's actually on Wednesday.) For any of you with children: I have a 5-year old son. Do I need to have someone take care of him for me? If so, for how long? Thanks. -ginatae55

Well, I'm new to this site, but feel very blessed that I stumbled upon it during a google search. My surgery is in 3 days (Tuesday, Jan. 2nd) and I'm both excited and scared. I just read a posting called "grumpy nyc" and identified with it because, like her, I'm new to this, I'm having my hiatal hernia repaired with the lapband surgery, and I want to lose 130 pounds. (I also have a ton of gall stones, but my surgeon says he'll only repair the hernia right now. I have to have the gall bladder out in March sometime.) I'm so curious about what I'm going to feel like 1 minute after the surgery, 1 hour after, 1 day after, and so forth. I'd love to know what I should bring with me to the hospital and what I should buy to keep at home for when I'm released from the hospital. I saw a reference to gas-x in another posting, which I had not heard or read about before. Other questions I have are: how long after the surgery can I drive? when do the gas pains finally subside altogether? I plan on taking up yoga and/or pilates. How long afterward can I do this? Any information would be helpful. Thanks. -ginatae55:help:
