Feb 2011 Bandsters: How much have your lost?
mominoc replied to Korilynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Its now June. I've lost 60. Feb. 7th 2011 banded. 2 fills so far @ 7ccs now. Doing well. No problems and think I've found good restriction. Grateful for my band and that I hopefully will live longer, and now already can play with my kids much easier. Got rid of so many Clothes. Just kept what fits. BP is so much better! Got a lot more to lose but so many things are easier now.........sitting in booths, for one, is no problem anymore. walking more now too since my joints don't hurt so much. Yay! -
Bet you've lost more by now. Just saying congrats!
-
Congratulations! I'm right there with you. Finally with 2nd fill have true restriction. 7ccs. Go to Dr. June 16th and don't think I need a third at least right now. Lost 60 so far. Feb 7th surgery 2011. True restriction finally means knowing what everyone has been talking about! Now tiny bites, chewing well and eating very slowly. It does work!

Agree and relate to where you are at. After my second fill I really found out what true restriction meant. (Now @ 7cc). Eating slowly now is a must and I mean slowly. Sommetimes I don't have the time and grab a Premier protein shake ( from Costco). I have 2 young kids.....I do try to sit down and eat with my kids, but they always finish way before me. I'm a single Mom, so I'm busy, but at least now I can keep up better after losing weight (55 pds so far). Thanks.

No restrictions before. Liquids after a day, mushies a day then solids. Haven't had any problems.

I go to dr every 8 weeks or so and I get a fill if needed. I'm @ 7cc now and losing well, so may not get another fill for awhile. I like to check in even if I don't get a fill. Thanks.

Looks like we were all banded about the same time. Mine a little later Feb. 7th, 2011. I would love to stay in touch! Gkab@earthlink.

Sounds really good for you! Congratulations! I will possibly get my 3rd fill June 16th. Not sure I need more fill. I'm @ 7cc now (11cc Realize Band) and think I may be okay where I'm at. I've lost 55 pounds total since surgery Feb 7th, 2011. I like you will be under 200 soon! My ability to be active and socialize has changed so much! Like you said, it makes doing things so much easier. @ 7cc I can no longer eat any breads, unless chicken is tiny pieces with sauce I can't eat it, and sometimes drinking a protein shake is just a lot easier. So, this may be where I stay filled for awhile. I have 2 little kids and eating very slowly isn't always an option. I'm just glad to feel powerful over food for the first time in my life. Its amazing! No more white knuckling diets! My hunger is taken care of with enough protein and if I do spurge a bit its with ricecakes. I eat 2 or 3 and that's my splurge now! I love my band and am so happy I have it!

I need input on how others cook meats, so that they don't get stuck. I have 7ccs fill and can't eat bread plus many other things. I'm thinking I need to put chicken broth or sauces on everything. Any help with this is appreciated.

The difference 1 cc (or less) can make.

My first fill was 4cc then my second fill was 3cc. @ 7cc I have much restriction, but can eat when I take very small bites and chew very well. I can't eat bread or certain types of pizza/pasta. I think its good for most carb type foods to be difficult to keep down, so am leaving my 7cc alone. Does anyone have a bigger fill than 7cc and how is it working? I have an 11cc Realize band. Thanks. My Dr asks me to lose 1 pound a week, but I've lost more than that. Its very possible to lose 3 lbs a week.

Welcome. I have a Realize Band. I learn a lot from this site. Gail

Glad you know what works best for you.

I can't eat bread, soft tortillas. I remember in nutrition classes before surgery they would talk about eating like half a sandwich. I wish I could eat one, but its not going to happen for me. Maybe its a blessing.....
-
I can't do bread either. I read about others eating sandwiches and wonder how can they? I'm @ 7cc fill and bread is just not going to be in my diet. I can't eat soft tortillas either, but crunchy ones do. Breads in general have been removed for me........maybe a blessing.

. Gingy.......how much fill do you have? Gail
-
Can I relate! I now have 7cc fill & I guess I now have real restriction. I have to eat very slowly and eat very little. @ 4cc fill it wasn't like this. I can eat, I just have to eat smaller portions, chew a lot more and wait longer between bites. @ 4ccs I did slime when I wwent out to dinner. I couldn't believe it. I ran to the bathroom and was so embarrassed. I do think socializing with the band takes practice because for me I get to talking, laughing, etc and don't pay attention to my bites as when alone. That one experience was enough for me. I may order soup from now on!

I never quoted anyone. We all do what works best for ourselves. Thanks.

. Thanks Elsie for your reply. I'm going to apply your ways this week. The dry/grilled isn't working. Thanks again. Gail
-
Thanks for your replies! I guess I'm going to have to get a Crockpot. I know it makes meats moister. I'm used to eating chicken breasts that I would grill (before band), but that isn't working anymore. I will get a crockpot tomorrow. thanks again. Gail

waiting 10 minutes between bites????
mominoc replied to jamiesdoingit's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was told to wait 10 minutes also. I like others wait to know that a bite isn't stuck before I take another. I do eat slower, but I don't wait 10 mins. -
P.S. only 3 months out from my surgery. Have lost 45 or so pds.

Most aren't wanting to be so rigid. No one can tell anyone else what works for them. By the time people get the band they've had a lifetime of others telling them what is best. Many lose just fine without another person's rules. I always thought there were 5 rules anyway. LOL
