  1. Hi, all! I'm from Jacksonville, FL. I've been overweight for as long as I can remember, and I have a host of weight-related problems : high blood pressure, high cholesterol, irritable bowel syndrome, GERD, uterine fibroids. I started having knee and hip pain last year. Finally I decided that enough is enough. I'm turning 40 this year. I'm graduating from law school in December this year. I just got married a year and a half ago. I have too much to live for to keep on killing myself with food. That's why I decided to get banded. Dr. Cywes did my surgery on December 30, 2010. It included a hiatal hernia repair. So far, my recovery has gone very well, although this past weekend, I had what Dr. C thinks is a "stuck" episode. I think I'm in the middle of a IBS flare too, but we'll see. Otherwise, the experience has been as easy as surgery can be. I went home the day of my surgery. My husband had me shopping at Wal-Mart the next day. :-) I haven't been nauseous. I was off my pain meds after three days. Next step is my first fill on Jan. 28. I'm a little nervous about that. I'm looking forward to learning from and communicating with folks in these forums. It's true....it's easier together!

    Post Stuck diet?

I'm recovering now from what my doctor believes is a stuck episode. My pain started in my side then seemed to spread across my whole stomach. Although the worst has passed, I still have a slight tightness in the upper abdomen. I've suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome for years, and since I've been terribly constipated since my banding (Dec. 30), I think it may have been a combo stuck-episode/IBS flare. In any case, my surgeon said definitely go on liquids for a couple of days to let things settle. That seems to be helping.
