Gastric Sleeve Surgery 2/20/2019
SWEETGRACE replied to emet1976's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m scheduled for February 20th 2019 in Tijuana. I had Lapband in 2009 then had it taken out in 2016. I started having severe panic attacks when it was time to eat. My kids were smaller then, and would climb on me while I was tryyto chew, chew, chew. You first instinct is to tell them to stop but AFTER you swallow. So I would swallow food to ask them to get off of me and would inevitably get something stuck. Then I’d be at the table 20 minutes later trying to finish my food. It was an awful cycle. I’m scared that because I failed the lapband that I might fail the sleeve. I know I have to do something tho. I’ve gained 100 pounds since taking the band out. I’m scared for my life. I know I can do the liquid diet part but I’m nervous about the regular food part. -
Spring Break Challenge
SWEETGRACE replied to AmandaGW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My trainer suggested that I could do intervals of either jogging for 1 minute walk for 2 OR increase the incline for 1 minute than lower it for 2 minutes. He said it still gives you interval training and increases your endurance. I noticed too that when I put the treadmill on a steep incline I have to use my stomach muscles more to keep upright as I walk so I think it is really helping to strengthen my core at the same time. -

Your doctor sounds like an absolute jerk and obviously male. I would consider finding another dr. Yes you do need to commit and figure out how you can make healthy eating and excercise work in your hectic life style. Can you take walk with your children before or after dinner for 10 to 15 minutes even in the cold? I believe you can do anything you want when you make up your mind and are willing to put in the effort. I would never have the band taken out myself. But I tryly believe you can do this and all you have to do is read some of these entries to realize you can always start over. There are lots of people here who feel like they have failed but decided to get back up and try again. It's never over until YOU decide your done. The fact that you went back to the doctor says that you haven't given up so don't let some dumb doctors callous words take away your future. Good luck to you keep posting -

My addiction
SWEETGRACE replied to Hopes of a Dream!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am right there with you. I realized how addicted I was to food when I was on the liver shrinking diet. One Saturday my family were all up and in our living room while I lay in my bed terrified and depressed because I couldn't think of a reason to get out of bed. I didn't want to get out of bed because it didn't make sense to get up there wasn't anything worth eating that I could eat so I just wanted to sleep through the diet. I told my husband through my tears to wake me up in a week when it was all over. So after my little pitty party then I thought Ok I gotta get a grip. Just think about all of the time I will have to be with my 5year old and 6 month old because I'm not spending 1hour fixing everything I want to eat and another hour eating it. My daughter loves to spend time working out with me. She thinks it's just the greatest thing now and asks me to work out with her all of the time -
Just a heads up. If you are taking two calcium supplements at the same time you are wasting one of them. Your body can only absorb 500-600mg at a time. So it would be beneficial to you to split them up at least 2 hours apart.

That is so cool. I remember when I lost weight before I was so excited when the nurse took my blood pressure and the regular size cuff didn't pop off. I don't know why they usually had to let the reg cuff pop off then go get the big cuff. Anyway I was banded 12-29-10 and have lost 26 pounds and being able to use a regular cuff at a doctor check up is one of those things I am looking forward to. Maybe you could tie some fish line around the bottom of your ring to make it fit better until your ready to get it sized. Congratulations!

yetta I am contacting you becuase of the reply you made about the rash under your breast. It could be 1 of 3 things. 1. infection in which case it would be hot and red. 2. A type of yeast infection in which case clotrimazole cream will clear it up and not hurt any thing. 3. heat rash

Rash all over my body
SWEETGRACE replied to sunshine755's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a pharmacist I can tell you that it was absolutely something you ingested. Of course I have no idea which medicine/food/etc. it might have been but I can tell you to keep taking and antihistamine. They make a claritin melt tab and a zyrtec melt tab both of these should last 12 hours where the benadryl only lasts 4-6 hours and causes more drowsiness. An antihistamine can also dry your up a bit so make sure you are getting your water. Also try not to take really hot showers or get overly hot for the next few days becuase heat can bring out the itchiness and rash more. You can also use small amounts of 1% hydrocortisone cream on the really itchy rashy areas it will reduce the rash and slightly reduce the itch. Hope this helps. If the rash is not completely gone in 10 days you need to seek further medical advice. Good luck -
Questions...3 weeks post op
SWEETGRACE replied to cmcafee35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can really relate to what you are talking about. I was banded the 29th of December and I am on a full liquid diet right now. My sister who was banded 2.5 years ago said that she would get Soup from restaurants and if the potatoe or carrot could be mushed in her mouth with her tongue then she ate it anyway. That is what I have been doing but only a little bit because I am nervous to get something stuck. 2. As far as the bm goes I didn't have any until I move up to full liquid and now it's one every other day. 3.As far as the gas goes I really hope it goes away because it hurts so bad it takes my breath away. 4. I am able to chug Water now and am perfectly fine. I don't do that with milk or Protein shakes because it makes me feel way too full way too fast. I have a wonderful Protein Drink made by BSN and it is called "Better than dessert" It comes in banana pudding, cinnamon roll, vanilla pudding, choc pudding, and chocolat coconut candy bar. I bought it on line and it has 20grams protein with 3grams sugar per serving. Very delicious. 5. My info book that the clinic gave me said that I would work up to 1cup per meal. Hope this helps a little -
Nausea & Dizziness
SWEETGRACE replied to mommieburger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't lose weight the first few days after surgery either (banded 12-29-2010) which was very discouraging because I was barely drinking water and very little broth. Then I remembered the bag of IV fluid they pumped into my body. It takes a while for that excess fluid to be removed from your body. I too got banded to keep the weight off. I have been on everything except for the South Beach Diet and every time I lose 70 to 90 pounds just to gain it back within a year or two. It was nice to read that somebody had the same issue I did. So thanks for that. I have these wonderful protein shakes that are made by "BSN" they are called "Better than dessert" they come in chocolate coconut candy bar, banana pudding, cinnamon role, and vanilla pudding. The vanilla is my favorite to mix with fruit or add other flavors and the banana pudding is my very favorite. They have 20g protein per 8 oz and 3grams of sugar. Conratulations on the 42 lbs pre-op that's awesome. -
Hello, I am 3 days post surgery and I am very excited. I have very little pain with the exception of gas. The gas pain is very irritating. I have been walking and moving but with little relief. It was encouraging to read posts that state the gas doesn't last forever. I lost 13 pounds on the liver shrinking diet I had to do 10 days before surgery and I am very excited about losing more. I am surprised that I haven't lost any more after surgery on the liquid diet, I guess that's because my body is in starvation mode. I've only eaten about 1 1/2 cups of broth and 1/2 cup of sugar free jello each day. It is the very first time I can ever remember NOT feeling hungry or wanting to eat. I even still have Christmas cookies, candiy etc. from neighbors at my house and I am just not interested in any of it. For me this is a whole new experience. I feel a little lost because I am not sure what to do with all of my time. I really spent alot of time sneaking food so my kids and husband wouldn't see me eat it. I guess I'll have to find a new hobby :-)

Hi, I was banded the 29th of December and I had to do a liver shrinking diet over the holidays too but mine was not liquid. My diet consisted of very lean proteins two vegies and 2 fruits. It's interesting how each protocol is different. I can't believe how after surgery I don't even really feel hungry. We even still have Christmas goodies around that nobody has eaten and it doesn't even bug me to see them. How funny, my husband just threw them out as I was typing this. It kinda bugs me to see them thrown out but I guess it's for the best. Who knows how long I will feel like Not eating them. Either way I love the feeling of not craving them even when they are right under my nose. I don't ever remember not being hungry!

Banded Monday 11/8/10

I like reading about your success. Thanks for posting. How/where do you add the count down strip? thanks -
Hi, I am so sorry to hear about your nausea. I was banded 29Dec10 and I have not experienced any nausea, plenty of gas, but no nausea. I doctor gave me two anti-nausea medications prior to surgery and then also prescribed promethazine suppositories for nausea as well. If you are still experiencing nausea you should definitely contact your surgeon that is not normal. As a pharmacist I can tell you there are no great OTC medications to combat nausea you really need a prescription.

Hi Big J, I was banded the 29DEC10 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I just wanted to say congratulations for making it past Christmas with the liquid diet! What liquids were you allowed? I am on liquids until Dec. 6th and I am excited to move to pureed diet as well. Hope your journey continues to be a happy positive experience.
