Today is one year ago that I had surgery. I have lost 65 lbs which puts me at 188 lbs (I gained 2 lbs during the holidays from eating poorly:). I am 64.5 inches which still puts my BMI at just obese, but when I lose a few more pounds I will be just overweight:) my goal is to weigh around 150-155 lbs. I am very happy with my progress so far and still so happy I had this done before I developed diabetes, high blood pressure, or other medical problems associated with obesity! I am wearing a size 14/16 compared to a size 22 this time last year. My last fill was in June, and I actually had part of it unfilled a few days later because I was too tight. The lap band has been a huge blessing for me!

The muscle milk cookies and cream is sooo good! It's ready made... I'll have to try the one you mention:)

Do any of you ladies wear or need size 14/16 items?
Jlbrenn replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I wear! Are they still available? Where do you live? -
Yesterday, I was shopping at lane Bryant, and the store clerk asked me if I needed help. I told her I was looking for a particular shirt that the manequin was wearing. She told me to follow her, and she picked up the shirt and handed it to me and said "this is the smallest size we have" and handed me a size 14/16!!! She assumed I wear their smallest size!! I was beaming on the inside. I was banded on 12/31/2010 and have lost almost 40 lbs and was wearing a size 22 pants and 18/20 top, so this was exciting to me! Just wanted to share!!

I Hate My Job!!!!
Jlbrenn replied to MaybeBanding26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fluffytofabulous... I work in an endocrine office and the drug reps still cater lunches for everyday. The only laws that change are that they are no linger allowed to bring us goodies such as pens, cups, bags ect with their company name or drug on it.... But they can and still do bring in lunch almost everyday. It's tough! I have been ordering a meal and bringing it home for my husband though... I'm 3 weeks pist op and this has been a challenge... Walking away from the food St the office! -

4 weeks post op today and so happy about progress!
Jlbrenn replied to amber2604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I am 19 days post op and have lost 10 lbs pre op on 2 weeks of liquid and 13 lbs since surgery... So down 23 lbs total which I'm happy about. I can eat about 1 cup of food at meals but try keeping it less. I get my first fill in 3 weeks -
Looking for a recipe?
Jlbrenn replied to BlakeneyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just made this for dinner tonight and loved it! I'm bringing leftovers for lunch tomorrow! Thanks for the recipe! -
I can't wait to wear shorts instead of long capris in the summer and cute tank tops that fit!

December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Jlbrenn replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my first follow up post surgery (12/30) on Monday. I have only lost 12 lbs since surgery so hoping to get my fill soon. How long did y'all have to wait after surgery to get your fill? -
I am 1 week post op and still on liquids. I was told I can have tomato soup. I love v8 juice but was wondering if it would be considered carbonated because it comes in the same kind of can soda does... I'm sure this is a stupid question

YOU ARE GOING TO BE HUNGRY HUNGRY HUNGRY
Jlbrenn replied to cheryl2586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everyone here that we don't need the negativity that some posters bring to this site. I was banded a little over a week ago and still have questions and was excited to find this site for support. fTF was also new at one point as well and I'm sure had similar concerns of her own. I too use my iPhone to navigate the site, and it is not easy to find old posts. If she doesn't like the questions, why keep coming back to the site? -
I had to pay $500 to cover dietician, nurse visit, psych eval but was told if I went through with surgery it was taken off my 16 k price... Just has surgery last week and haven't gotten the bill yet so not sure if it actually came off the cost yet
-
Thanks... I figured so but thought I'd ask. Probably dumb question

Ok i just bought and drank Muscle Milk in Cookies and Creme... And it was delicious!!!! It was almost ALMOST as good as a milkshake, especially after being on liquids for 2 weeks pre op and for the past few days post surgery. It has 210 calories and 21 gms protein... It's worth trying! I have been drinking slim fast low carb creamy chocolate which has 190 calories and 20 gms protein.... I like the MM better!

Can you share what kind of supplements are you taking after the surgery?
Jlbrenn replied to carvey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We ( lap band patients) shouldn't need b12 supplements unless you actually have a deficiency because we don't get the malabsorption that bypass patients get. A multivitamin should be fine though -
My UHC did not require the BMI to be over 40 fir the past 5 years ( because mine had not) but they were looking fir obesity for past 5 years... At least that was my plan. There are different UHc policies apparently
-
I have UHC too and they also paid 90% after we met the deductible. I initially saw the surgeon on 9/10 (seminar but ended up only being me so it was a consult), had an appt with dietician and psychologist ( insurance required) in October. Then had another appt with the nurse and dietician and surgeon one week prior to surgery on 12/30/10. My UHC required 5 years worth of documented weights to show I has been obese for at least 5 years... And bMI of over 40 or over 35 with other co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertenstion, ect. That's all they required... No 6 months of diet. The surgeon ordered pre op EKG, chest X-ray, h pylori test, pregnancy test ( I'm 33), and CBC and cmp. I rarely go the the dr but I had documented weights from the chiropractor which counted

I like unjury chocolate splendor and slim fast low carb creamy chocholate. I tried bariatric advantage vanilla and don't Luke it, although my dietician gave me several recipes to spice things up

Banded 12/30, and am hungry already
Jlbrenn replied to PhillyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on 12/30 and I'm starving now too! I'm sipping protein shakes, brith, very small amounts if Greek yoga, jello, very watered down cream of wheat... And I'm still so hungry! My husband cooked nachos yesterday, and I felt Like I could eat his whole plate and then some! The only thing keeping me going is seeing the lbs come off... I've lost 17 lbs over the past 2 weeks with the pre op diet and surgery... But my stomach is growling too! I feel your pain! -
I was banded on 12/30/10...2 days ago. I am doing pretty well with minimal pain now..mostly when I get up or change positions in the bed. I am not taking the pain meds anymore. The most discomfort I have is in the middle of my upper abdominal area.. I think I can feel the port there. Anwyay, I am taking off this week to recover from work. I have a 4 yr old and a 9 month old, and my parents and my husband will be picking up the baby this week because my dr said not to lift anything heavier than 15 lbs for at least 2 weeks. Well, my husband has to go out of town next week for work, and my baby is 19 lbs. Does anybody have experience with lifting a week post op? I am hoping I won't have too much trouble because I will have to pick her up and take care of the baby by myself next week. Thanks!
-
That's the main reason I did thus! To be healthier and ultimately have more time on this earth with my husband and daughters! Good luck to you too! Keep us updated!
