    looking for male mentor

I had lap band on Jan. 10th of this year. I am 50 and was at 320lbs. So far including what I lost on the liquid diet, I have lost 50 pounds. What a difference it has made in my health. You will go through some rough times, make sure you get some emotional support both before and after surgery. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

    So tell me...

I was banded Jan 10th, 2011. Since I began this journey I have lost 26 lbs. Its been slow to lose the weight, but my body has certainly changed. I no longer have to take any insulin and my last A1C test last week was 6.0, officially in the normal, non diabetic range! Issues I use to have with intimacy and ED are GONE! My wife commented to me this morning that if I never lost another pound that we would be able to consider this lifestyle change a success. It has not been easy by any means, but it is definately been well worth it to have done this. Never give up or give in to the demons inside of you!

    Hunger vs Restriction Argument

I am still in the process of learning with my band. I was done on Jan 10th and have had two fills. Including pre-surgery, I am down 30 pounds. I feel a little disappointment in the amount of weight, but also happy that it is happening. I haven't hit the sweet spot yet I guess with my fills. I am not really feeling much restriction after a few days of the fill and find that I am forcing myself to only eat a certain amount but feel I could easily eat more. My stomach still growls at me almost constantly. I did have one stuck episode with a small piece of chicken and it was no fun at all. I guess I had hoped to feel restriction to the point I could only eat a certain amount, but I have found it is still more willpower and discipline than actual restriction. That's my 2 cents worth.

    first fill questions

I ended up having 5cc in a 14cc band. My Dr. also told me not to get too hung up on the numbers gane as far as how much is in the band. Each person is different and some may need no fills where others may need many or a lot of fluid.

    first fill questions

I had my first fill today and I am happy to repeat what my Dr. and nurse both told me. Clear liquids for 24 hours and then back to regular diet. I should pay attention to how I feel and if too tight call them and go in for readjustment. If too loose, call them and go in for a readjustment. While I was in the office being filled, she had me sit up and drink water so that I would feel the difference of too full and too loose and it was quite an education. I believe your Dr. should be doing the same. In all I have learned I have never heard anyone say it takes time for the fluid to evenly distribute in the band.

    Blenders

    Magic bullett
  8. I am 12 days post op. I managed to lose 20 pounds prior to surgery and have lost another 8 since surgery. The last two days and especially today I have felt non stop hunger. I have followed the diet plan but think I am probably eating too much. I don't get my first fill for another 2 weeks though. I am also exercising. On a positive note, my blood sugars are in the normal range and I haven't had to take any insulin. I guess I just need some reassurance of some sort or something. My wife had to go out of town all week and I have been here alone to learn and do what I should. It has taken all my willpower and strength to keep positive. Thanks for listening!

    Nintendo Wii

Does anyone use one of these for exercise? I bought one today and had fun with it and got a heck of a workout trying to play tennis!

    Crushed

I experienced the same situation. While it was very frustrating to think I had to wait another 6 months, it was also very good time to take and delve into learning everything you can about Lap Band and all of the life changes you will have. My family physician or a dietitian in most cases can get you through the six months of monthly appointments. My suggestion is use the time proactively. I started seeing a counselor to explore my emotional eating habits and also tried to start counting calories and watching the labels of what I was eating. I just had my lap band done on 1/10/11 and am very glad I had those six months to prepare mentally more than anything.
