Was anyone banded in December of '06?
melLybelLyband replied to thebionicbroad's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OK, I have lost 24 lbs since December and the more I dont loose the more bummed and disgusted I get and then what do I do? Eat creme puffs and eclairs and crap I know I am not to eat. The sweet tooth is making this band not work and I am so angry with myself. Getting on here and reading others posts has sort of got me motivated to quit eating wrong and do better. I am going to start eating the proper food ie: Proteins and stop the blubbering cremepuff drama! I am going to do this! Now will everyone post to me to tell me to do it right and not feel sorry formyself and just eat correctly! melanie:help: -
Peanut Butter, cheese sticks, a protein drink, cottage cheese... I try for these the most but a lot of times my desire for the wrong thing wins out. I know that if I stopped eating the wrong things I would not crave them so bad! It is a viscious cycle.

The way I understand it the large band will hold more fluid. I have a friend with the large band and she has 4cc's. You should ask your physician...

I was banded in December and went diving in February. Coz @ 90 - 100 was just fine. No problems what so ever! Dont drink the beer though! OMG I forgot not to and got so sick! But the diving was great! Actually my physician said that there would not be problems because the band is fluid filled and scuba affects airfilled places.

I have only lost 22 lbs. I was banded on 12/28/06. I know that this is slow moving but I want to see results. If you find answers to why we continue to do ourselves in please let me know.

Lap Band vs Gastric Bypass
melLybelLyband replied to emmasmom60's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Laura, I can help! My husband and I both needed to do something about our weight and our health. We had tried many "diets" without doing well enough to say they would work for the rest of our lives. We both are diabetics, he was about 150 lbs overweight and I am about 100 lbs overweight. He thought a pop with cherry flavor is a fruit and corn and potato is a vegetable. He did not and would not try to understand eating right. He still argues with me what a Protein is! Now me, I am a nurse and understood a bit more about nutrition I just like to eat! So that is a short history of us. On September 21, 2006, he had a RNY, gastric bypass. He has now lost over 90 lbs. He feels the results! It is obvious to him now that the weight was killing him. It took drastric results to figure out what a protein was and that the weight was killing him even though the food was great! Me on the other hand, I felt the GB was a little drastic for a person like myself (smart and all, haha) anyway I felt I didnt need the immediate results that he needed. He needed a slap in the face and got it! He now is the most compliant person with his diet! Yes, he has to do the protein, Vitamin, Calcium and vitamin B supplements for the rest of his life, yes he has dumping syndrome and yes he needed the rapid weight loss so he could SEE the results instead of being patient and knowing the results. Plus, he could take off work for 6 weeks to recover and I only had two weeks to do this in! That in a nutshell was what helped in our decisions and I hope it helps you. I know we both will do well now and we both made the right decisions. If for some reason I ever need the slap in the face like him, I can still have the GB. Good Luck in your decision. Melanie -
I had my surgery on 12/28 and the gas is getting better now! I have found Gas-X, walking and heating pad works well. The heatpad made all the difference yesterday! I am a little weak but have tried to push along, I get tired and sit for a bit then trudge back up. I am NOT sleeping much right now and wonder if it is the Lortab (that I am only using sparingly now) or is it new energy (from the diet of protein and liquid)? The biggest thing though is my mindset seems changed. This isnt another "diet adventure" it is a "more healthy life" for myself. WOW! I have done something for myself!!! Such a change!!! Good luck with the blasted gas! Melanie

Thanks for the advice mousecrazy. I am just 3 days out and wondering what the heck have I done! Gas is a problem and just drinking water is not going so great right now. I just had my first protein drink and it did fit and maybe even made me feel better. Still, I wonder what the heck have I done! It looks like you have done well so I am inspired for now. Thanks, Mel

I had my surgery on 12/28, today is the first day I could keep down a protein shake. I can barely drink water without feeling so full! I have lost 8 lbs already! Is this all normal?

OK so I have done it. The surgery is done now I just starve. The thought of not eating like I use to scares me because I really do like to eat. I guess it will be ok just in smaller amounts. My broth is actually good! Note the positiveness I am portraying... We will see how this goes in the weeks to come.
