You can cheat on any kind of weight loss regime. It is up to you to stick with it. I ended up eating stuff I wasn't supposed to yet this last weekend. I am back to the liquids now. I am just glad I didn't get blocked.

The super glue on my incisions has come off already (less than two weeks) so I am trying to avoid the pool right now. I don't want any trouble. I haven't gotten back to the gym yet, but will this afternoon/evening. I have to share a car with my son, so I have to work around his schedule. Then there is the trouble I have getting up and going in the mornings. ugh

Carry your lapband ID card at all times! I have wire in my chest from a partial sternotomy some years ago. I have never had any trouble with any alarms going off or any such thing. I doubt the lapband will cause any trouble as it is not metal. I guess you could always call the airport and talk to security if you are really worried.

I am having trouble with this too, but I count the water in my protein shake and then the liquid in my broths as well. I drink til I can't any more and then some. I am not sure I am getting all the 64 oz, but I am trying. If you get thirsty, you are already dehydrated, so keep sipping. Be well!

Be sure you drink your Protein shake so you get aleast the minimal amount of protein you need. Also, salad is kind of hard for me to get just 1/2 cup of as well, but I am not there yet. I had trouble this last weekend and cheated by eating chicken breast and then lean beef... each was cut up into tiny pieces and I chewed until my jaws ached. I am back on liquids again. Anyway, to your question about nutrition... that is what the Vitamins are for. If you are not taking chewable vitamins, please do so. Make sure they meet the minimum about required in combination with your Protein Shake. Then you don't have to worry about the nutrition. Be well!

I am in League City and was banded 12/30. Southeast Memorial Hermann has a support group that meets the third Wednesday of the month. You can find a group on their website http://www.memorialhermann.org/servicesandprograms/supportgroups/#weightlosssurgery Hopefully there is one near you. And you don't have to have been banded there. At least that is what I understand.

Hypo-Thyroid Issues and Lap Band Results
djmixon replied to carolann0117's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have hypothyroidism and take synthroid, too. that is just one of my many health conditions that I pray this will help get rid of. I have not had a hard time, except this weekend... I was starving and cheated, albeit I still ate less than 800 calories and I cut everything up tiny and chewed until my jaws hurt. I am back on liquids now because I am only on week 2 and should not have pushed my luck. ugh....... Anyway, here is hoping things get better. I am wondering if the thyroid issue and the fact that I take prednisone had anything to do with my ravenous appetite this weekend..... Anyway, I am more vigilent now and need your prayers as well. You a re all in mine. -
Hi, I have also been on multiple Vitamins and supplements before. As for anything in a capsule, I take it apart and mix it with my ground pills. For anything chewable, I have found that by grinding them up and mixng them with my pills, then everything goes down better. Now for Fish Oil... I have a great gummy Omega 3-6-9 supplement. It is called Slice of life and it is awesome. I haven't pricked gel caps and sqeezed that into juice, but that is how my daughter gets my grandson to take his. I just have a real problem with the fishy smell and taste. I am thinking it might not be so bad if squeezed into my Protein shake if it had fruit ground in with it all.

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
djmixon replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Hollis banded me on 12/30/10 and I felt like hell warmed over for a few days. I got really hungry the second weekend and actually ate some food in small portions and well chewed and have come to the conclusion that I need to get back to the liquids. I have to find somehow to make them taste better though because as they are, they are awful! Further, I have to get back to my schedule which includes going to the gym for an hour or so a day. My pain meds are all fouled up since I have to crush everything and my surgeon says I cannot take my long acting meds, so I am in pretty much constant pain. Not where I had hoped to be. Further, since I was so ravenous this last weekend, I actually gained 1.2 lbs, so back to liquids I go. This is going to be a long row to hoe... -
Hi all! I am newly banded as of 12/30/10 at 8:30 am. I am from south of Houston and have been getting ready for this for over a year. If my original doctor's group or surgeon's office could screw it up any more, I would have been shocked. I almost didn't get things done in time. Gotta say the soreness is more than I anticipated and I have had a few outpatient surgeries. The gas is still stuck in my left shoulder and although I have never had acid indigestion, I have had an awful time of it since being banded. Do any of you have any hints or helpful tricks to overcome the heartburn? Goodness knows I don't want to have any further surgery because of it. Also, I understand I am still swollen, but my bras are really tight right now and very uncomfortable. I really cannot go without when in public as it would be unbecoming. Also, I am noticing the "super glue" doesn't seem to be lasting as long as I would have thought. I mean, nothing is seeping or leaking, but I am a little concerned. I will contact my surgeon, but your collective experience would be helpful. I take an awful lot of meds for various health issues and am wondering if there is anyway to make them taste any better after being ground up? The bitterness is overwhelming. How long will it be before I can quit taking them, do you think? What is your experience? I'm sure I have other questions, but those are all I can think of at the time. Thanks! djmixon

Okay... I screwed up.... I had 1 small sugar free pancake, a small piece of cheesecake, a small piece of grilled chicken (cut up very small and chewed very well), some very lean grilled steak (cut up very small and chewed very well), and a few well softened mushrooms over the weekend. Bleh. I haven't felt "full" or even satisfied this weekend. I know... I should be on thicker liquids only right now. I am going back to liquids tomorrow. I just don't want to have screwed anything up............. and while I will own up to it when I see my doctor, I would prefer being back to where I should be before that happens... I am keeping the online food journal, so he can see at any point. So... Dr. Hollis, I am sorry. I was just ravenous this weekend. And to me... I am sorry. I just have to be stronger... for me.

To or Not To do Pre-Op Diet
djmixon replied to ~Sabrina K~'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, my doc reserves the right to not place the band if the liver is too large. What worries me is that I was doing the 2 week liquid diet over Christmas and I forgot my Protein Powder when we went out of town... so I ate a very small serving of lasagne, a tiny piece of pie, a couple of small spinach enchiladas, a couple dozen thin tortilla chips with scorching (perfect) hot salsa, a tiny amount of brisquet, a tiny amount of ham, a tiny amount of mustard potato salad during the trip. I have been good since, but geez.......... We will see what he says in the morning since I am going in at 5:30 am. I lost 10 pounds anyway. -
I'm on my way to the hospital for surgery...

Congratulations! I am being banded in the morning (if my surgeon doesn't change his mind)
