Met surgeon, not sure of his practice, need your thoughts
peacequeen replied to InterplanetJanet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I switched hospitals/surgeons..not because of the surgeon but because of the ins. coor. So I asked for all my records..funny how they had shredded them..so when I switched, I had to start over completely which is totally ok by me but because of them it set me back 5 months but I've also learned alot in that time. Still waiting but the process is going much quicker and smoother and my current ins coor is really on top of things and returns my calls within a day..instead of a month. Good luck and don't feel bad if you have to switch. You will know if it's the right choice. -
I need an excuse but not a lie
peacequeen replied to CoffeeBean's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Myrori, I apologize, I didn't mean to make it sound like you were implying anything. I was just stating how I feel based on my own experiences telling my business to my friends and family before the fact of something I had planned on doing. Some people are very lucky, they have super support. My friends and family are supportive in some areas and great people but due to the nature of weight loss surgery in general and it's bad rap it's received in the past..I know some will make it a point to voice their opinion and some being negative. While I'm building my confidence to go through this, I just don't need them telling me I'm making a mistake..and they will. I may tell people eventually but I know they will have to see me actually lose the weight and live to tell the story before they agree with what I'm doing. Again, I'm sorry,,I re read my post and it sounded snappy and I didn't mean for it to. -
Bless your heart, good luck N2B8R..you can do it. I'm scared too but everyone tells me it's normal so I'm just going with the flow When is your surgery date?

I don't see it as an honesty issue,,I see it as it isn't their business issue. -
Anyone have or had surgery at Georgetown, Ky
peacequeen posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just wondering if anyone out there had surgery or is having surgery at Georgetown hospital in Ky. I'd love to hear any experiences you may want to share...length of stay after the procedure and how you were treated by the staff, how was the facility?..accomadating, clean, etc..who was your surgeon and how do you feel about him? I heard one surgeon has left and wondered if he would be replaced, if anyone knows details about this, I'd like to hear about it. Good or bad experiences. -
Holy Crap...am I making the right decision
peacequeen replied to deekaspor's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
longer-life, along with depression and anxiety, I have seasonal affective disorder. It's a real illness. Read about it, a therapist can really help you. deekaspor.. I am currently working very hard to get my head right before surgery, so many will tell you it's very important. It's been the best advice I've gotten here at vst. Good luck! -

I'd like to keep it secret from some people. I have some very good friends and great family who support me in everything but they may not with this surgery due to worry or maybe even a little jealousy. If I tell certain ones, they will more than likely try to talk me out of it or say something that will hurt my feelings so I just spare myself the trouble. My husband, daughter, son and 2 great friends are the only ones that know what I'm up to...and I have 6 sisters and a brother. I would just tell my friend I'm not feeling well which would probably be true. -
Anyone have or had surgery at Georgetown, Ky
peacequeen replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was shocking news so I called Georgetown and they said that is not true. She had heard nothing about bluegrass bariatrics. She said Dr. Sonnanstine is leaving for Ohio in September but Dr. Rasmussen will be staying and performing the surgeries there at Georgetown. I will stick with Dr.Rasmussen since I'm new and haven't seen either of them. There is quite a write up on him at the website. -

Which doctor would you choose?
peacequeen replied to 420gal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If this is a reputable office, most physicians won't work with another physician that he doesn't trust because it would ruin his reputation. That being said, sounds like they are both experienced doctors but me personally, I'd feel more at ease with a doctor that has actually done this VSG surgery. Good luck! -
I agree with Kellyw74, fight for it!! I'm so sorry for all you are going through, I sure hope things look up for you soon.

United Healthcare requirement
peacequeen replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, Deliah! That's promising news. Yes, I have comorbs..several. I also have 2 letters of referral from 2 of my doctors. I have a weight history a mile long, just my bmi hasn't always been over 40 within the past 5 years. My doctor told me the national bmi standard is only 35 so UHC shouldn't try to come up with their own rules but it's probably my husband's employer that has this requirement..don't know for sure. Thanks you guys! -
Don't give up hope! I've been in the process since Dec 2010, I know what it's like to wait. I've read here that several have waited for years to get a surgery date. Trust your doctors, they probably have good reason for holding off. Maybe you should talk to a nutritionist because being a diabetic is tricky. You have to eat foods in moderation, it might be the way you are eating, not what you are eating or vice versa. Find someone to partner up with to help you with excercise,, bump it up to excercising once a day instead of 3 times a week. If you hadn't been excercising before, you are probably building muscle which weighs more than fat so some of the weight could be due to that. Hypothyroid is another reason the weight piles on. Make sure you're getting that checked out. Use this time to focus on your new life when you get the weight off,,whether on your own or by surgery. I've been very anxious to get surgery as well. I went through a time where surgery it seems so far from reach but now I'm finding things to keep me busy and occupy my mind. I'm doing weight watchers on my own, I'm thinking about what style clothes I want to wear when I'm smaller, all the things I'm going to do that I haven't been able to do, meditating,,anything to keep positive. The lower I feel, the more weight I gain. Good luck and keep your chin up

United Healthcare requirement
peacequeen replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for everyones response. Bamaxpress78, yes I have comorbs. I have an autoimmune disease called Myasthenia Gravis, it's in the muscular distrophy family..complicated. Anyway, I do have sleep apnea and use a bipap for my MG but it also helps for apnea. I am prediabetic (would be diabetic if i was still on steroids), anemic, osteoarthritis and malacia, hashimotos thyroiditis..so on and so on... I also have a level of anxiety and depression due to my list of health issues. I currently carry a bmi well over 40 but if UHC has that requirement to be morbid obese for 5 full years, I fail that, I was just severe obese before that...how dare me! ldydrgnkpr, I did call them and they told me I had to be over 21, have a bmi of 40 or above, a list of 5 years 40+ bmi. No diet to follow though. I guess what I'm wanting to know is how strict that 5 year bmi rule is,,has anyone been approved without meeting it? -
United Healthcare requirement
peacequeen replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My bmi is close to 48 now, I have a ton of comorbs too but if they require that bmi history..I'm in trouble. Even though my weight has always been up, long term prednisone set my weight soaring to raise my bmi this high. Now I'm off of them and can't get the weight off. My doctors are supporting the surgery so I hope that will be enough. -
The only problem is there are several different types of UHC and an employer can set his own requirements as well.
-
I have UHC ChoicePlus and they said they require the 5 year morbid obese record. I'm worried because mine has only been this high for about 3 years. My bad that I was just severe obese before that *sarcasm*. I can't really get excited about all of this or take it serious because it's just a waiting game for me right now. I think I'll post the question to everyone,,how many out there were approved with UHC's 5 year bmi requirement.

Is it really going to happen?
peacequeen replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, everyone. It feels good to know I'm not the only "crazy" one.lol I'm on a second go round with hospital/surgeon. The first clinic didn't work out so I've had to start over. I actually got a call the other day. My pre op appt is Sept 21! I knew I made the right decision to change hospitals. It also gave me new hope that it's gonna happen!! I think as long as the conveyer belt is moving, it's easier to stay motivated. -
During the waiting game, have any of you thought that you will never "really" go through the surgery or that it's not going to happen?
-
You're a funny guy whether you meant to be, I don't know but this is stuff comedians look for.LOL

From: 5 months and HOPELESS! Please help!
peacequeen commented on Miters36's blog entry in Me-tamorphosis2011's Blog
I've always been told to weigh early in the morning, that is the most accurate weight..and not so often. Once a week should suffice. I'd drive myself crazy if I stalked my scale all day everyday. As for the constipation, I haven't even had surgery yet but I have been a long time sufferer of it (IBS). I've actually had 3 doctors (one being GI) tell me it is very safe to use miralax daily. It's flavorless and you can add to a cup of coffee, tea, diet soda,,whatever. 1 cap a day and you will be going regular within a week. If not, try 2 capsful 2 times a day. If this doesn't work, you should see a GI. 6 days is way too long to go without bm's. Good luck!
