Ashamed of WLS?
peacequeen replied to Less of Leslie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's been like I need to get something off my chest around my sisters (I have 6 of them). I had told a couple and it was mixed but I talked to all of them together last night after Thanksgiving dinner and to my surprise they were saying how exciting it is and they are happy for me. They just want me to be healthy. I explained that I had 5 dr recommendations for this surgery and they said it sounded like I was doing the right thing..I'm really excited now that I can share this whole experience with them. -
I'm Bulimic And Getting Vsg
peacequeen replied to ATeam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Either you want it candy coated or straight up? I think when you said "No my surgeon does not require a mental evaluation, but I have been through enough therapists and counselors to BS my way out of anything"...I find that sort of disturbing. I am a firm believer in therapy if you have a "disorder". I am in therapy for my ED..what's the point of lying? So you can have surgery? Then you've lied to the psych and yourself and 1 surgery later you still have an eating disorder. Till you get your head in the right place and face the issues you have by getting into some good therapy and give them no "BS", you will still have the same issues. It's like trying to fix a broken leg by pulling your tooth. -
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm still hoping for a Dec date. I have to get cardiac clearance and an EGD before I can proceed.

This is a wonderful and inspirational segment from the popular news show, Nightline. This touched me and motivates me. This is for those who wonder if there really is hope after the surgery. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/woman-loses-130-pounds-months-radical-stomach-surgery/story?id=14859458

When I grow up, I want to be just like you Makingchanges What you say makes total sense to me. I am a faithful person and maybe what you say will make me see things differently. Not about telling people because I already agree with how you are handling it, I am doing the same. When I have the surgery, I will tell people if they ask but I've been just telling people who are close to me to keep positive thoughts coming my way..I have some family and friends who aren't so positive and would probably try to sabotage what I'm trying to do. What I'm talking about is how you are giving it all to God. I don't want to take this forum to a spiritual place but He did make my body so I should lean on Him more to get me through this. I've prayed and maybe asked for too much instead of just saying,,"Here Lord,,you take this journey and lead me on it". Thank you for opening my eyes a little wider, Makingchanges. -
I don't know where I read that about vomiting,,or maybe I just misunderstood but thanks for clearing that up. It's still gross,,lol I'm sort of scared of this now. I have no gag reflex,,I'll end up throwing up anyway.

I've been approved by my insurance but due to health problems, I have to have some extra pre op tests. The scheduler won't give me a surgery date till she gets the results. 1 of the test hasn't even been scheduled yet. I'm waiting on her call. I'm trying to find another surgeon as a back up in case my surgeon can't get me in this year. Waiting till 2012 poses a problem since I have met my ded and oop amount for the year,,and my husband's policy will change. I don't know if the new policy covers wls. I was wondering what surgeons some of you may have here in Ky? I'd like to see if I can get in just in case I don't make it through the clinic I'm at.

The way I understand it, if you eat too much too fast,,you will vomit a slime like substance. Dumping syndrome has a variety of symptoms.

Panicking And Fantasizing About Canceling -- Need Your Wise Words
peacequeen replied to CoffeeAndMagazines's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had many surgeries,,including my organs being dissected,,you can handle this. Think of the pain and suffering you put yourself through now by being overweight. Think how much worse that it could get. You've gotten alot of great advice..you're going to do great! It sounds like you are already doing really well except a case of nerves..which I think is very normal. -

Good luck, Raquel. Don't worry, everything will be wonderful...like a new day when you awake. You will be a better Mom because you'll be able to do so much more with and for your kids. My thoughts and prayers will be with you! -
I haven't gotten my date yet but hoping for December. My insurance coordinator seems to think it will be too. It's exciting because it looks like there is a whopping bunch to share the experience with!

medicare programs in ky
peacequeen replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think I'm making sense. I just mentioned Ky because that is where we live. I know it's a federal program, I have medicare also I was wondering if a program like this will offer the sleeve,,or if anyone knew: What is a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C)? A Medicare Advantage Plan (like an *** or PPO) is another Medicare health plan choice you may have as part of Medicare. Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called “Part C” or “MA Plans,” are offered by private companies approved by Medicare. If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, the plan will provide all of your Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance) coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans may offer extra coverage, such as vision, hearing, dental, and/or health and wellness programs. Most include Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D). -
Does anyone know of any Ky medicare programs that cover the sleeve? My sister is thinking of having wls and with medicare she can only have the bypass or band. With open enrollment, she's checking her options. If anyone can help,,it would be greatly appreciated!!

I personally have not had my surgery yet but I've heard some surgeons are really strict about it. They want you to shrink the liver so they can get to the stomach easier with less risk.
