This Has Been Woking For Me...
peacequeen replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like a great plan..good going -
Oh the vicious cycle of paper work. If you can do anything on your own, do it..take and deliver. You must be so frustrated! I'm sorry this has happened to you..I hope things clear up so you can get the ball rolling.

We gave similar advice,,I think we were posting at the same time.lol

I understand what you're going through. I've lost near 70 pounds but it's taken me close to 7 months to do it and my weight bounces around,,drives me crazy. You had a set back, it happens..get back up I agree with dorrie, get rid of the junk food. It's only there tempting you. You know you shouldn't have it, you know you don't want or need it so wants the point in having it around? I bet once you get back on track it will be no time you get those 5 pounds off and then some. I've found when I start something like a journal, it really helps. I had a spell where I wasn't tracking and I got thrown off course, it set me into a stall and I started getting really discouraged..so I went back to myfitnesspal.com and it's really keeping me focused. I'm surprised but it's working. It really makes you aware of what you are eating and how often you excercise..it even keeps track of how many fluids you're taking in. If you don't use it, I highly recommend it. Or at least just writing it down. Ease back into it and you'll get there before you know it. Coming here and posting is a first step.

I just want to add, I was totally informed going into surgery. It's not something to take lightly and should be thoroughly investigated and researched. I went to 2 seminars, lurked these forums for a year, asked numerous questions, surfed the net for extended amounts of time reading journals, articles, etc. I knew the risks that were involved. When I was told I had a leak and a stricture, I knew what they were. If anyone has a regret, it should be not educating themselves about the sleeve before they go under the knife. I'll also add again, even though I have gone through what I have,,I still love my sleeve and would do it again. I could've never lost 70 pounds (and continue to lose) on my own. I struggled with my weight my whole life and it needed to stop. I have alot of health problems and they were only getting worse. If you are thinking of having surgery out of the simple fact to look pretty or to be skinnier than your friends or maybe just to wear cute clothes,,that's great but just be prepared for the life change you will need to make. Surgery isn't an easy way out,,don't expect it to be so easy either. It's hard work.

Thank you I have alot of medical issues, not sure if they will cause other complications..I have to just take it one step at a time and trust my doctor. I will have an EGD and they will decide from that where I need to go from there.
-
umm,,2 things..leak and stricture..I just want to be normal like everyone else but things keep going wrong. I don't really regret the surgery, it's working so I can't complain.
-
I have dysphagia (due to mg) and gerd (therefore suspecting that's the problem) but when they did the upper gi,,they compared those films with the films I had back in January when I had my leak and apparently there was a significant difference. I don't mean to concern or scare anyone,, I think we all have some degree of swallowing and digesting issues due to our new stomachs..this is just a fluke..not sure why this has happened. It's not the first time I have had a more uncommon side effect due to a procedure, med,,etc. I'm not normal.lol

Labor Day Challenge 2012
peacequeen replied to jhansen71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did I say "sticked to the plan"?lol OMG.... -
I told my doctor at my 3 month visit that I was feeling like something was getting stuck and I'd sometimes have food come back up,,not vomit (sorry tmi). I also had trouble with swallowing,,which I have myasthenia gravis which causes muscle weakness and swallowing is a big issue for myasthenics so we thought it was due to that. I saw my neurologist and they changed up my meds. But I just kept feeling the same feelings so I told them (bariatric doc) that I was still having the swallowing issues,,feeling like something was stuck and sometimes food coming up..I even thought it was just normal that maybe I was overeating or eating too fast which I do sometimes,,not on purpose. So they ordered an upper gi,,I just heard the results today and they said there was a stricture,,a slight tightening at the opening of the stomach and doc wanted to do an EGD. I'm sure he wants to see everything up close and personal and decide if I need the balloon treatment,,which is the next step. This is not related to me leak..I've had a swallowing problem for several years due to mg but this seperate issue just over the past few months. Sorry,,I'm so not good at explaining things.lol

I think he's going to balloon it open. I knew something was going on but really thought it was unrelated to my sleeve. Well, it is what it is but I'll survive.

Labor Day Challenge 2012
peacequeen replied to jhansen71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight bounced around this week,,I was down to 226 at one point but then 229.4 this morning so I gained a pound. I had sticked to the plan except for yesterday at my husbands family reunion,,I was a bad girl So much good food and I ate tiny amounts but grazed throughout the day,,that'll get ya in trouble! So don't make the same mistake I did and think 1 day won't hurt,,cause it did. -
Thanks Lissa,,,I know,,it's been crazy. I think it'll be ok and I still don't have any regrets. I'd never lose 70 pounds so fast and easy.
-
The way it was explained to me, a stricture is a narrowing area of the stomach,,mine is at the top where food enters the stomach. Food kept getting "hung up" and I'd get an uncomfortable feeling and sometimes food would come back up..I thought I was either eating too much or it was the the lack of muscle from myasthenia gravis (an autoimmune disease I have) causing trouble swallowing. I think you might be thinking of restriction. That's the ability to eat less,,not stricture. Hope I explained it ok.

Freaking Out......
peacequeen replied to MrzSongbird's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've made it this far and the sleeve is saving too many lives for them to close shop..try to relax your mind about that. As for the psych eval,,be honest but not too revealing. Try to keep everything on the positive. You're going to do so great!
