Need Opinions On Non Wls Related Issue
peacequeen replied to chitowngirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope I don't offend either..not my intentions at all. I really sympathize with you. When I married my husband, I married his kids too and vice versa. I have always done the shopping and keep it very equal no matter what. And as for my grandbabies, I have 3 biological and 1 grandson from a stepdaughter. I give him the same and treat him the same as if he were mine. When I put myself in a blended family there is a responsibility on my husband and my part to be as normal as possible,,not only for our own sanity but to set a sound example for all the kids..we have 6 between the 2 of us btw. We don't really have in laws, our parents have passed on so I can't comment or give any advice. I just found it odd all the talk of his money, my money,,his kids,,my kids. You guys sound so seperate. Maybe start discussing and including each other. Make a list of all that you both need to buy for and involve your husband whether he likes it or not. As for buying gifts..I'd never buy a 200.00 dsi or anything of the sort for a 5 year old..leave that to the parents and keep it simple. You may not have heard anything about it or seen it again,,cause he probably broke it.lol -
I Am Just Amazed
peacequeen replied to kelliecalgary's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There has been mixed opinions about stretching the stomach. I was told that it can't stretch much because the part of the stomach that stretches has mostly been removed. I'm almost 7 months out and I can hold about the same now as I did when I first got sleeved. Before I was sleeved, I could easily eat a 2 cheeseburger value meal with large fries and soda from Mcd's and then I'd head to DQ for a large strawberry cheesquake blizzard,,I'd finish most or all of it. I can hold maybe 5 ounces max now. I can't finish half a happy meal..not that I eat alot of those but just comparing. I used to eat 4 large slices of pizza with soda,,now I can't hold 1 large slice,,maybe 1 small slice. Great question kellie... -
Just a small update..my pre admission testing is the 23rd and my EGD is on the 25th. I'd appreciate any prayers, good thoughts or positive energy.

Maybe consider going to therapy to help with the smoking and getting your head clear on eating issues. It would really help you during your pre op diet and especially after your surgery. You sound so excited,,keep your eye on the prize and that'll help keep you focused! Good luck!

Pre-Op Testing.... Why So Different
peacequeen replied to Sherry77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably, because sometimes insurance will not pay if you had one that recent. It's a little more invasive procedure than the others and quite expensive..especially if you are self pay. And since you had one as early as January should be all they need. Sometimes if a red flag goes up on other tests, the doctor will do further testing..that happened to me. It's good your doctor is doing his homework! Good luck on your journey! -

Day 2 And I'm So Hungry
peacequeen replied to klaaspice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say it's very likely that most all of us have had that feeling. When I became hungry I would sip on chicken broth or strained thin soups. Something about savory foods that settled my hunger pang. It'll get easier..congrats to you! -
Thought I Could Trust My Husband!
peacequeen replied to MGM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's so sad that physical abuse is grounds for a divorce but it's ok for a man (or a woman) to abuse the heck out of someone mentally and people think you should work through it,,work it out..I mean that's just crazy. I would rather be hit upside the head than to be beaten down mentally. I'm so thankful I have a very supportive husband. I'm so sorry for you ladies who are going through this. -
I think I would still recommend a hotel.
-
You can make homemade chicken or beef broth. Kroger has a low sodium and fat free broths as well as Swanson, Campbells and numerous others.
-
I would highly recommend a hotel Congrats on your date! The only advice I can offer is use the search and you can find lists to help you pack, lists of things to purchase that you'll have ready for after surgery. I bought soups..mostly broths and veggie type soups I could strain, popsicles, sf pudding, protein shakes (take it easy on the protein shakes because your taste will likely change and you'd be stuck with a powder you're not going to drink) and sf jello. After your surgery, walk and get in your fluids! Good luck!

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I can calm my husband from being so upset. He went through the whole leak ordeal with me now he's coping with the fact I have a stricture. He knows a lady (unrelated to sleeve surgery) that passed away due to a stricture in her esophagus and had to have it stretched. She had complications and bled to death so he's really worried and kinda has me more scared than I was. What can I say to him to rest his mind? I'm really stressing out over all this. I've really tried to keep from posting yet another negative story of my trials but I don't have anyone to turn to.

Might want to have your sugar and bp checked..just in case. Are you getting your fluids in? You don't want to get dehydrated.

What Causes A Leak? How Can We Prevent?
peacequeen replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just have to stress how great my doctor is. He's done thousands of weight loss surgeries..anyone in Ky that knows about bariatric surgery knows his name. I was only the 3rd leak he or his staff had ever had. If anyone is interested,,here is a little info about my good looking doc.lol I was awfully sick but he sure was eye candy. http://www.cbhweightloss.com/default/meet-our-team/our-surgical-bluegrass-team -

What Causes A Leak? How Can We Prevent?
peacequeen replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I know others on the site that were treated for a leak differently..I know there has been mention of a stent put in. I had all food and liquids stopped and I was put on tpn for a month. My leak closed up on it's own. Then I was back to square one..clear liquids, full liquids..mushies..etc. It was not a pleasant experience but I'm glad I didn't have a stent,,I hear they are painful. -
Where Are The Acid Reflux Sufferers?

That's fascinating! I'll have to look into that! Does insurance pay for something like that? -
What Causes A Leak? How Can We Prevent?

Mine is a mystery. I followed the rules to a t and I still got one. I got to watch my upper gi's and it looked like an area that hadn't been stapled..a small area at the top of my stomach,,we could see it bubble as I swallowed. My surgeon said it could've been from lifting myself from laying down to a sitting position, it could've pulled it loose as well as a coughing spell I had. You can eat things you aren't supposed to eat and over stuff your sleeve by eating too much or lift things that are too heavy and cause a strain on the stomach..I don't really know but these are things my surgeon and I discussed as well as some of the nurses told me while I was in the hospital. Just follow your doctors orders, take it very easy the first few weeks,,don't be afraid to ask for help. -
Anyone Else Feel Like They Will Suddenly Not Lose Any More?
peacequeen replied to Chimera's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Yes, I feel that way sometimes..especially during stalls. I just keep pushing forward and keep trying to do different things to keep the scale moving. I think we just need to be patient because when we lose so much, our bodies have to make all sorts of adjustments. -
8 Days Out And Had A Leak In Day 5 Do Discouraged :(
peacequeen replied to stephwb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so so sorry you are going through this. I had a leak so I know what you're going through. Feel free to send me a personal message if you want to talk about it. If you're only a week out, sounds like they caught it pretty early and the fact they are giving you liquids and might send you to a regular room is a real good sign. -
