  1. SLIMED THIS AM AFTER EATING SCRAMBLED EGG AND TURKEY BACON! IT CAME BACK UP FASTER THAN IT WENT DOWN. I GUESS I HAD MORE RESTRICTION THAN I THOUGHT! WELL I GUESS IT'S BACK TO PROTEIN SHAKE FOR BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AGAIN! THIS SCALE HAD BETTER START MOVING OR ELSE! :(

    Are you still out there?

HI THERE! I WAS BANDED JAN. 17 THIS YEAR. I HAVE HAD MY FIRST "FILL" OF ONLY 1/2 CC LAST WK. I DIDN'T THINK I HAD ANY RESTRICTION EITHER COZ I FELT HUNGRY ALL THE TIME AND FELT LIKE I COULD EAT ANYTHING. THE scale HAS NOT BEEN MOVING FOR ME LATELY EITHER. WELL THIS AM I HAD MY FIRST "SLIMING" EPISODE AND IT WAS NOT PLEASANT. EVERYTHING CAME BACK UP - SO I GUESS I DO HAVE MORE RESTRICTION. BUT ANYWAYS, PRIOR TO THIS - I DECIDED TO DRINK THE CHOC Protein shakes FOR Breakfast AND lunch AND JUST HAVE A NICE dinner (SMALL PROPOTION OF COURSE). I THOUGHT IT WOULD JUMP START THE WT LOSS AGAIN. SO I AM GONNA STICK TO THAT AGAIN FOR A WHILE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. MAYBE YOU COULD TRY THAT AS WELL AND SEE IF IT WORKS FOR YOU. GOOD LUCK!

3 WEEKS POST OP AND GREAT RESULTS!!

Congrats on your great wt. loss. Don't be in any hurry to get to reg foods coz the wt loss really slows down then . Also, I had my first meal after my first fill of only 1/2 cc and I ate a bit of scrambled eggs and a piece of turkey bacon and you guessed it - my first "sliming" episode. It all came back up on me. What a horrible experience. Not sure if I ate too much or it didn't agree with me or because of the fill - more restriction - but anyways I felt really hungry before that happened. I sure didn't expect that! I wondered what other banders were talking about when they referred to "sliming" - now I know - ha ha. Sorry to gross you out! Anyways - good luck on your first fill and hope things go well. You are doing great!

    FIRST FILL - OUCH!

WELL TODAY I WENT IN FOR MY FIRST FILL. IT WAS UNDER FLUROSCOPY. I HAD TO DRINK SOME BARIUM FIRST. WELL THE DOC COULDNT FIND THE MID PORT AND HIT THE EDGE AND IT KINDA BOUNCED AND THEN POPPED. WOW - WHAT A CREEPY FEELING. IT SCARED ME MORE THAN IT HURT ACTUALLY. BUT IT DEF WAS UNCOMFORTABLE. GLAD THAT'S OVER WITH! WHEW! HE PUT 1 CC IN AND THEN TOOK 1/2 CC BACK OUT COZ WHEN I DRANK THE BARIUM - IT EMPTIED OUT OF THE STOMACH TOO SLOW. HE FELT I ALREADY HAD PRETTY GOOD RESTRICTION. I AM TO RETURN IN 1 MONTH NOW. UNLESS I NEED ANOTHER ADJUSTMENT IN THE MEANTIME. I AM TO BE ON LIQUIDS THE REST OF TODAY FOLLOWED BY MUSHY TOMORROW AND THEN REG THE NEXT DAY. WAS TOLD TO WATCH PORTIONS AND MAKE SURE I ONLY EAT 3/4 CUP AT MEALTIMES. WAIT 1/2 HR BEFORE AND AFTER MEALS TO HAVE LIQUIDS AND WAIT 4 HR. BETWEEN MEALS. DRINK LOTS OF WATER AND EXERCISE. THEN SIT BACK AND WATCH THE LBS. MELT AWAY. HA HA. I ALSO ATTENDED MY FIRST LAPBAND SUPPORT GROUP MEETING TONIGHT. IT WAS AWESOME. THEY HAD A GUEST SPEAKER THERE WHO SPECIALIZES IN MUSIC THERAPY. SHE PLAYED THE HARP AND SANG AND MADE US FEEL SO RELAXED AND TAUGHT US HOW TO UNSTRESS OURSELVES. SHE ALSO PASED A DRUM AROUND THAT HAD BEADS IN IT AND WHEN YOU SHOOK IT IT SOUNDED JUST LIKE THE OCEAN WAVES. SO COOL. WE HAD TO SHUT OUR EYES AND PASS IT AROUND TO ONE ANOTHER. MET ALOT OF NICE FELLOW BANDERS THERE. GONNA TRY AND GO EVERY MONTH IF POSSIBLE.
  6. With wt. loss slowing down since eating regular foods - I decided to have the choc. protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and then have a decent dinner. Hope this works for me. I need to shed some lbs. soon!!!!!

    Soup Question

Hi! I was told that if you have soup - to have it before you eat your reg food so that it doesnt push your food through.

    Waiting.. the hardest part?

The FDA just approved a BMI of 30 with just 1 health related wt. issue such as high blood pressure. So you should be ok. No need to put that wt. back on! Good luck!

    WAITING FOR MY FIRST "FILL"

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I appreciate it. How much of a fill did you get in your band. He only put 1/2 cc in mine and I can't feel any difference? Wondering if I should get another fill soon?
  15. Cheated yesterday - I ate too much and bad food choice and I also had candy. Yikes!!! I feel so guilty today - so guess what I am gonna do about it? Gonna make up for it today by only having protein shakes all day. Oh my! Here we go. I hate those shakes but hey - I really could use all that protein - it has been hard trying to get alot of it in my diet lately. And I don't want my hair to fall out! Yuk.

    3 week post op update

Yah it really is hard to get the protein in. I also had trouble with the chewable vitamins and calcium. But you do get used to them. Now they don't both me at all. I just suck them. They will disolve. I also have cheated on my diet and often eat more than I should. This is not good. I have resolved to do better. If you really want to lose lbs. you really have to stick to the 3/4 cup food per meal and don't eat between meals. No snacking. And drink plenty of water and exercise. These are all key to losing wt. But don't beat yourself up over it if you cheat occasionally. It is easy to do though. I know. We all fall off the wagon at one time or another. Keep positive and get back on that wagon. I agree with you about taking the time to taste your food. My goodness I have often said how I so appreciate my food now that it is limited. Everything just tastes so divine to me. ha ha. It is great. My problem is I eat too fast, I have to learn to slow down and don't wait to eat till I am starving. Things tend to get stuck if you eat too fast or too much. I have found that out! I got my first fill at 1 month post op. Only 1/2 cc. Didn't feel much restriction from it at all. Kinda disappointed. I think I need more put in my band to make it work like it should. My next appt. with Doc isn't till 1 month from now. Geez. So I guess I will just work at better food choices and like you said trying to get that protein in. And exercise more. Hope the month goes by quickly and I lose some wt. So good luck to you and I hope you have great success with your wt. loss. Keep us posted. Take care.

    Gaining weight and Fustrated

I think you really have to stick to the 3/4 cup per meal. And that's it. It is really hard to do. At least for me. But if you want the wt. to come off you have to. Also drink lots of water and exercise. These are the 3 key factors. Good luck. I have not been losing quite fast enough as I would like either but I am determined to do better. Keep us posted on your progress. Keep your chin up and take care!

    Personal distractions

Sounds like your job is getting to you! Sorry to hear that. I would advise you to try to work things out with your husband if you can. I feel that sometimes people give up too easy. Try to find an outlet be it church, friends or whatever. Sometimes the band puts you on an emotional roller coaster for sure. Hang in there and keep your chin up. Take care.

    FEEL WHOLE AGAIN!!

    Congratulations!
  23. WELL HERE IT IS TODAY IS VALENTINES DAY! THAT MEANS CHOCOLATES FOR SOME OF US. DO WE REFRAIN OR ACCEPT? WELL I HAVE TO ADMIT - I ACCEPTED. AND OH BOY DID IT GO DOWN GOOD. WHAT A SHAME! IT TASTED SO GOOD - I ALMOST FELT LIKE I COMITTED A MORTAL SIN! I ALSO ATE MY FIRST MEAL AT A RESTAURANT LAST EVENING FOR THE OCCASION. IT WENT BETTER THAN EXPECTED. I ONLY ATE A SMALL PORTION AND GAVE THE REST TO MY HUSBAND. BUT I ORDERED WHAT I WANTED AND HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL WITH IT GETTING STUCK. I HAD STUFFED CHICKEN BREAST AND MASHED POTATOES WITH GRAVY AND A SALAD AND EVEN A BIT OF HOMEMADE BREAD. IT TASTED SO GOOD - I FELT I COULD HAVE EATEN MORE OF IT - BUT I LIMITED MYSELF AND ONLY ATE A SMALL PORTION OF MY MEAL. I ALSO HAD SOME RAINBOW ICECREAM FOR DESSERT. JUST A SMALL SCOOP. FIRST TIME I HAD ICECREAM IN A LONG TIME. IT TASTED SOOOO GOOD! SO THERE YOU HAVE IT - I SURVIVED "VALENTINES DAY WITHOUT A HITCH!" BAD PART IS - TUESDAY IS WEIGH IN DAY AT THE DR. - HA HA. - I BETTER START WORKING OUT BIG TIME!!!!
  24. I agree - it should be about healing for the first month. Wt. loss will come later. But just remember to make wise food choices and don't drink anything for at least 1 hr. after you eat to stay full for at least 4 hrs. till your next meal. And chew chew chew. Eat slowly - take at least 20 min. to eat your meals. Just a few tips that helped me. Take care and keep us posted. Good luck.
  25. Did you attend a lapband seminar yet? If not, do it. They take all your info and do the work for you. They contact your insurance co for approval etc. they set up all your appt. with nutritionist, psycologist and do all necessary preop work. But you also have to corrolate all this with your primary care physician also. You have to have a 6 month wt. loss diary in order for most insurances to cover this surgery. This means you have to have 6 months worth of dr. visits showing you attempted to lose wt. and how you did it. It has to be 6 consecutive months. So good luck to you and I hope I answered some of your questions. Keep in mind that all surgeons are different as well as all insurance companies. So the requirements may vary. Keep us posted.
