March 2011 Bandsters
Kellimorty1 replied to nallygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone....sorry i have been missing, i have been going through some things personally anyway, i just had my 1st adjustment ....it was a little strange, i layed in the chair and the doctor felt around for my port...he found it and told me to get in a sit up position, stuck the needle in and pulled the plunger out and then injected 1/2 of the fluid and asked me to take a drink of water and count how many seconds it took to drain, he then put in a little more saline and then pulled it out...Doctor then made me drink 3 large slips of water to make sure nothing got stuck & i feel so dang full...i feel like i have eaten an entire thanks giving dinner!!!!! I am so excited because i have only maintained my 22 pound weight loss the last 2 weeks, i was worried that i wouldnt be successful w/ the band but i agree w/ others that have said after the adjustment its a whole nother ball game!! LOVE IT! -

sorry you are struggling CJ Have you ever had surgery before? Maybe you just dont do well with surgery in general.... I was banded on March 8th and tonight is my first night back to work, my only complaint is that i am still having a lot of pain in my left shoulder...I type a lot at work and its killing me..Against my doctors advice i lifted my 35 pound son to put him to bed...it was only for a short distance but i totally did it out of habbit and forgot since all my pain had pretty much gone away...now im having a little more pain at the port incision -

thank you so much Marcy for the info, i feel much better! My dr also sews part of the stomach to secure the band, I tolerated the soup just fine...the only complaint that i have is that when i eat the broccoli cheese soup, the pain in my shoulder magnifies...I have not taken pain meds all day today because im trying to prepare myself for what it is going to be like tomorrow at work...I have taken the advice of the other girls about walking appox 10 mins every hour to two hours and the pain is still the same if not worse, it feels like it has gone from the top of my shoulder to now the outer of my uppper left arm...its really making me nervous because i read that some people were claiming it can mean nerve damage??! -

hmm....thats weird..i wonder why some doctors want clear liquids for 2 weeks and others want it for a shorter period of time...I have already lost 10 pounds in addition to the 1st 9 i lost pre op...so im at 19 pounds...I dont want to do anything to mess up or stretch out my band.....i just feel so guilty! -

feeling a little better tonight...I had been on clear liquids but tonight i spurged a little and had a 1/2 cup of broc/cheddar soup...it was really thin and the small pieces of broccoli that were in there i chewed really good... a lot of my swelling has gone down and im losing a lot of weight # wise...I just cant wait till the two weeks of clear liquids is over and i can "legally' have creamy soups...I feel so guilty that i ate it, like my band isnt going to work now but I NEEDED something more then just clear chicken broth tonight, i have been feeling so weak any thoughts on this? -

Day 2..... OUUUUCCCHHHHH!!! Hi everyone...I am having a rough 2nd day It started off okay, i decided to treat myself to a wash/blowdry, a shower and a manicure/pedicure by the time i was on the way home i was doubled over in pain...I took my pain meds and about 30-45 mins later i was comfortably sleeping! I dont know why i thought i would be able to do so much, i just hate bed resting and i thought that walking around would be good for me....not so much Is anyone else experiencing more pain the 2nd day then the first day? I feel it mostly in the port incision... Diet: Not sure if anyone cares but here is what my diet looked liked today...I did not feel hungry at all, i just ate because i had to (meaning my husband forced me) lol 8am protien shake w/ pain meds & 1/2 a vitimin Water from costco & Flinstones chewable vitimin noon - 1 cup of chicken broth- flinstone chewable vitimin 1:30 - grape popsicle 5pm- Protein shake 6pm - grape popsicle 8pm 1 cup of chicken broth & flinstone chewable vitimin 930 - pain meds and some vitimin water i sip my vitimin water through out the day and i know im not getting enough liquid but i am trying ...i just get so full and i want to make sure to get my protein in I am so excited for tomorrow, my mom is going to make me some cream of wheat with cinnamon, watered down of course but I cant wait to have something new!! -

Hi Everyone.... .Im home from surgery and alive! My surgery was scheduled for 7:30 am...i arrived at the hospital at 5:45 am and waited about 15 mins to be admitted,....once i was admitted i was taken back to the pre-op room where i was put on an iv and given post op instructions...ie ( when you wake up you will be in this room and we will be calling your name, we will give you some Water to sip and ask you what your pain level is between 1-10, 10 being the highest.) ..my husband was then kicked out and i was wheeled into the VERY COLD operatng room...the nurses covered me with warm blankets and strapped my arms to the bed straight out...the anesthia dr came in and shot some white liquid in my IV and next thing i know i was waking up in recovery.... After Surgery: I woke up w/ a feeling of sorness in my stomach, from right above my bellybutton to right under my ribcage, it was more a feeling of "the day after doing about 1000 sit ups after not doing them for 2 years"...they pain for me was in my chest...at first i had really bad weezing (sounded like when you have bronchitis and you take a deep breath out, that last few seconds of breathing out sounds relaly moist and mucosy).....so i coughed most of it out and it went away within about 20 mins....THEN the real pain came.... I had/still have sharp pains in my left chest area, above my heard and in my upperback, everytime i take a deep breath in or out i feels like a sharp pressure... So then....i took one of the other gal's advice and got up to walk right away because i read that i would help w/ the pressure so i got up and walked up/down the hall...NO problems walking, breathing was a little awekward because when i was walking i assume everything kinda shift downward (because of gravity) and when i would take a breath i could feel sharp sorness in my incisions, (almost like they were going to bust open) but the nurse said that that feeliing is normal and that it would NOT burst open so i started taking deep breaths and felt much better....then they made me pee & do my breathing exercises and then sent me home!! I have been home ever since in and out of bed with very low to medium pain! i feel like such a spoiled brat because my family is taking such good care of me! overall it is not too bad but dont do what i did and go into it thinking " i wont have ANY pain because its laproscopic (sp)...i had 2 c-sections / 1 emergency and 1 non emergency and pain wise i would say it is just under a c-section. good luck everyone! -

I have a question for all you compture savy people...I made my self a weight loss ticker...that little bar thing that says how much weight you have lost BUT how do you imput your new weights so that it updaates with out losing your origional settings?? do you have to uploade it and put it on your signature every time? I used one in both of my pregnancies but that was easy because it automatically updated on its own everyday?!
