biggest piece of advice is to follow your doctors instructions. I was on a 2 week liquid diet pre op, banded 12/30 now i am on a more strict liquid diet for 2 weeks, then a little thicker liquids 2 weeks and in Feb i can have food!!! Your gonna have to get up and move find 30 mins a day a few days a week, i wish you the best of luck. I am tired, the gas hurts the worst, but at this point ZERO regrets. -
I am schedule to have my surgery on 12/30/10 I am SO super excited and a little nervous after reading some of the posts on here. Its hard to know what to listen to and what not to since all of our MDs have different before and after plans. I have to be on a liquid diet 2 weeks prior and then 2 weeks after then work my way up to solids. I see some people on here are on a liquid diet for a month afterwards and I see some that eat anything (just in smaller portions) I was told my diet would be meat, cheese, and dark leafy veggies. Has anyone had their surgery done in St Pete, FL?

congratulations ladies! I am 3 days post op and dont regret a thing. I also had the 2 week per op liquid diet, everyone is like how are you going to do that during Christmas, my response is I have wanted this for 2 years and if the MD says to jump up and down and turn in circles I would. My only piece of advice is Follow Your MDs orders!! I am not going to lie, it is uncomfortable @ the port site, but nothing u can't handle. Good luck! Hope to see you on here more.

Hey Rueban! We both had surgery on the same day! I can only have clear liquids for 2 more weeks, the gas is the worst and the port site is what hurts.Coughing is getting easier, i did sneeze today, that was very interesting hurt like a _______. You have nothing but an open road ahead of you, follow your MDs orders and you will make it. I will try to keep up with your progress. Best of luck fellow Lapbander! YOU CAN DO IT!!

I am so excited for you!! The gas I think is the kicker. Its so funny to see all the different diets people are on. My next 2 weeks are liquids only, then 2 weeks of thick liquids like Protein shakes and mushy stuff, then solids woohoo! I was told I can eat meat, cheese, and dark leafy greens only. Can't wait to eat so sliced deli turkey and cheese that will be my first meal...mmmmm.

I am so happy for you. I didnt set a # for myself, I am scared that I wont be able to make it and then disappoint myself. I want to feel good, that is my goal. I wish you all the luck and I know you can keep up the good work! I see you have 2 beautiful babies to live for you can do it!!!

i had to purchase Optifast (Protein shakes) from my surgeon i could have 3-5 per day @ 160 calories each. I could have diet drinks, Water, chicken/beef broth, wonton Soup BROTH only, sugarfree gum, anything you could see thru. I had to do this for 2 weeks pre op, this was during Christmas, it was a test, but I did it.

Well I had my surgery Thursday (12/30/10) so far so good. The worst I would say is the gas pains but thats moving, thank goodness. They tell you to breath deep and cough, oh my gosh that hurts, but you gotta do it. I am feeling great, kinda nervous, but still excited. I still have to stay on a clear liquid diet for 2 more weeks, broth and popscicles are my "main dishes" I can have all the non calorie beverages I want in between as well as sugar free hard candy/gum. Thought I was gonna sleep like a baby after surgery but oh no, they were in every 15 mins, 30 mins, then every hour, ugh let me SLEEP!! lol I am really interested in talking to others that have had or going to have this done. If anyone lives in Polk county Fla I would really like to talk. I am married and have kids, not looking for anything just another lapbander. I wish the best for all of you that have yet to have your surgery and to those that have already had it keep up the great job and follow your doctors orders! Have a wonderful New Year everyone.
